I got a PM from a person who told me this when I was discussing the warranty issue since so many people have had trouble with Hyundai regarding dealers and warranty claims:
Hey..just thought I'd let you know of something that happened today. I got into a bit of a conversation with our Warranty Administrator today on the issue of A/M parts and warranties. She admitted straight up that she wasn't in charge, and that were she in charge a lot of people would be pissed at her, royally. Her veiw on the matter was that OE is designed for the application, and is KNOWN to work..if a/m parts cause failure, it ought to be up to that manufacturer to cover any applicable warranties, that it is no longer HMA's responsibility. She said that things like lowering springs and/or other-than-stock struts should void warranty on any parts related....my inferrence, the transmission. She saw reason behind warranty voidation due to the filter issue. She doesn't see rims/tires as a voidation of warranty at all, despite the possibility of changing the suspension geometry [even if slight]. I did my best to sway her a bit on that if A/m meets or exceeds OE spec, then there should not be a reason for voidation. Her veiw on maintainace was that when you buy a car, you take it to a dealer for service, and then you're assured your warranty. I reminded her of the oil change procedures in the owners manual, and of the log book included with purchase. If HMA supplied it to new owners, then it ought be sufficient for people to maintain their own cars [and by extension, at outside shops]..and she couldn't really argue against it at that point. Don't know if it helped at all, and in the end she doesn't DECIDE on it, just prepares it for submission to HMA....but yeah.
Just wanted to let you know, I'm spreading the gospel
