I got a PM from a person who told me this when I was discussing the warranty issue since so many people have had trouble with Hyundai regarding dealers and warranty claims:

Hey..just thought I'd let you know of something that happened today. I got into a bit of a conversation with our Warranty Administrator today on the issue of A/M parts and warranties. She admitted straight up that she wasn't in charge, and that were she in charge a lot of people would be pissed at her, royally. Her veiw on the matter was that OE is designed for the application, and is KNOWN to work..if a/m parts cause failure, it ought to be up to that manufacturer to cover any applicable warranties, that it is no longer HMA's responsibility. She said that things like lowering springs and/or other-than-stock struts should void warranty on any parts related....my inferrence, the transmission. She saw reason behind warranty voidation due to the filter issue. She doesn't see rims/tires as a voidation of warranty at all, despite the possibility of changing the suspension geometry [even if slight]. I did my best to sway her a bit on that if A/m meets or exceeds OE spec, then there should not be a reason for voidation. Her veiw on maintainace was that when you buy a car, you take it to a dealer for service, and then you're assured your warranty. I reminded her of the oil change procedures in the owners manual, and of the log book included with purchase. If HMA supplied it to new owners, then it ought be sufficient for people to maintain their own cars [and by extension, at outside shops]..and she couldn't really argue against it at that point. Don't know if it helped at all, and in the end she doesn't DECIDE on it, just prepares it for submission to HMA....but yeah.
Just wanted to let you know, I'm spreading the gospel

yeah some dealers are stupid. true, the manufacturer should warranty them. but when you buy the car, you buy it from Hyundai, not from all those hundreds of manufacturers. Hyundai buys the parts from them, puts it together and sells it to you. If it was the case that the manufacturer is always responsible, we should blame God for Mad Cow Disease because he made cows and also for giving the idea of manufacturing parts that go into the guns that kill people

It doesn't make Hyundai off the hook though. They make the car and provide a warranty on it. They should be the ones that need to warranty the vehicle.

I dont exactly know what is goin on here, all I can gather is that something broke on dudes car and hma dont wanna warranty it?If you replaced a part,ie a spring,it voids the warranty on replaced part only. But we all know that. They cannot void a warranty on a vehicle due to a modified part. They only things we worry about where I work is proven abuse. If you have a short throw shifter and develop a trans prob, and I pull the trans and see the flywheel has massive hotspots on it,guess what, you're paying for it.Other than that,I dont care.I try to be easy goin on people, but thats just me

yeah i know.. i was agreeing to that.. lol. the manufacturer only warranties it to Hyundai, and Hyundai warranties it to the customer. If something goes wrong with the way Hyundai built it, they change out the part, send it to the manufacturer and get a new one. i agree that Hyundai should warranty it all, not the manufacturer

According to that warranty advisor, they can void the warranty by modifying even 1 part of a component (which is BS). For example, I added an aux filter on the return line of the transmission cooler. If she was deciding if the warranty should be intact or void, in her mind, the warranty would not exist because I added a filter designed for transmissions on the cooler line. This mod was a recommendation from a HMC employee who designs the engine/transmission management systems and has taught the techs on the engine/transmissions. He was saying that the cleaner the fluid, the better off you are.

I'm working on a 04 XD with an engine knock and the dealer denied the warranty for my customer. The filter was OE, but the bearings and oil pump are toast. Bone stock vehicle.

Thats crap man.Unless there is lack of maint or proof of abuse, every dealer should work with the customers and not against them.I think our dealership has the highest HSI index for our district.Thats because we help the customers, therefore we can generate a better relationship and have our customers return to us and not go to another dealer. We have so many customers that rag on 2 of our biggest competitors it's not even funny

well... let's all be thankful that she doesn't get to decide what voids the warranty.

WIth the exception of the oil filter up until recently, I have always used OEM parts, as I'd rather not risk the warranty. Now that I'm well past the warranty, I'm still using OEM parts, but I don't worry so much about doing other things to the car. I figure I got a lot of car for not a lot of money, it seems to work as it is, might as well stick with what came with it, unless I start hearing about OEM parts quality taking a nosedive.

On the bright side, the only time I've needed the warranty was for the exhaust manifold, which was cracked at around 80,000 miles.
