what u guys think about this,i kinda like it,it will go good with the r34 kit, its different, it might fit. does anybody have acces to a Mitsubishi 01-Up Lancer ?

roof spoiler (http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/Mitsubishi-04-Up-Lancer-Virage-Roof-Antenna-spoiler-EVO_W0QQcmdZViewItemQQcategoryZ42611QQitemZ4595544 199QQrdZ1QQsspagenameZWDVW)

thats not so much a "spoiler" but a "vortex generator" or somethign. its made for the evo fq400 (maybe even the newer evos) and those little tabs create a vortex of air to put more downforce on the rear spoiler. awd, it might work some, fwd = rice

i had a feeling "rice" would come up. but the look of it tho, r34 bodykit with the c/f is300 spoiler, the lil "vortex generator" would make the rear look more agressive....maybe

maybe...if it wasnt a FWD car

Yeah, I have to agree with Evan on this one, it's best left to the Evo's.

Ya i saw a comparison on TV when they did the Evo vs a WRX and they were commenting on that spoiler design that Mitsubishi developed and say it does work for drifting on auto crossing courses... but very minimally.

I don't know if it would fit, but get it if you like it...it's your car don't let other people decide for you! Rice is putting on a chinese sticker or LED window washer nozzles, or basically any crap APC product you can buy from Pep Boys.

If this was considered rice then all of you with spoilers are ricers too. This product was actually designed with performance in mind from the factory so I don't think that qualifies as rice in my book.

Who cares if our car is FWD? If your car is going at a rate of speed fast enough, theoretically it should help with the downforce.

yes. designed for a AWD car, where it makes sense to have downforce on the rear wheels. on a FWD, there is no point to have weight on the rear wheels. its like dead weight, if it made any. OEM spoilers arent made for performance, they're made for looks. they hardly catch any wind at all to make downforce. now what you see on evos, sti's, mustangs, supras, etc, makes sense to have a spoiler like that on them

I believe it would make more sense (aerodynamics wise) to get a front spliter or corners canards instead on a FWD.

I think Blackelantra GT was saying that there are generally two purposes in getting a spoiler.

1. it helps some cars by exerting a downward force on their rear wheels
2. pure cosmetics or as you've said "looks"

The question is who are we to define which spoiler is made for reason 1 and which one isn't??? Are you saying the Hyundai OEM spoilers will always be for looks while spoilers for RWD will always be for performance? Because I dont think that even Hyundai agrees with that. I am sure that they dont advertise their spoilers by saying that its for looks only!
While we do have the freedom of speech, I simply dont think its fair when someone puts time and effort in finding a product he finds appealing and then someone else simply disregards as "rice"

as long as hyundai doesnt have a RWD car, it IS for looks.

Fast FWD cars do need spoilers. If you don't have downforce on the rear wheels (whether or not their propelling the car) and you get too much air under the car you will lose traction in the rear causing a spin/flip/etc. While it's not a necessary feature on an elantra, it could still have benefits. It could actually help him stay planted to the road in an emergency situation.

My comment isn't to suggest that this mod will be for performance, like Ericbeck pointed out.

My point is, if the guy likes it, why do we have to say "oh that's rice", but if someone wants an OEM spoiler, we have no problems discussing the high OEM spoiler, the Evo spoiler, etc, etc. unless it's an aluminum wing.

Personally, I'd rather see this on a FWD car than a huge aluminum wing.

I'm not feelin' it

evan938

it serves no purpose. why put something that has a VERY specific purpose on something that it will do nothing for. his car will never hit speeds great enough to need downforce on the rear wheels.

i think its pretty cool actually, and im with blackgt, this is waaaay better than some of the other crap people try. i think itl work, especially cause he has a bodykit. good find man and evan...ur such a hater lol.

evan938

im not a hater, i just dont feel the need to put something designed for a specific reason on a car that it will serve no purpose.

so why not go and point out to everyone with a spoiler on their Elantra that it's rice? Any spoiler for our car is just about as useful as what this guy wants to put on his car.

as ive already stated, our spoilers arent designed for performance. THIS IS. but, seeing how he doesnt have his rear wheels doing anything but supporting the back of the car, it wont do anything

I actually thought it looked cool ...

BUT .. theres a big gaping hole for the roof mounted antenae that the elantra doesn't have. You'll have to come up with a solution for that.
