Hello! This site is unbelievable! I'm starting to go crosseyed because I've been reading about this and that and...

Anyway, I have 60K on my 01.5 EGT and I haven't flushed the tranny yet. I will accept any scolding on this that may come my way, but when the dust settles I need to know how (if possible) I can do this myself. The dealer wants nearly $200 to change the fluid, and I can imagine they will conveniently find other things wrong with the car. And I can't afford these sorts of things. I had read on this site that after a while, the fluid becomes "part of the transmission" in some way I don't understand, and that changing the fluid would lead to problems. Is this true? Could anyone point me to a tranny fluid change walkthrough?

Thank you!!!!!

@ 60k your fluid should be OK to change unless you have been really hard on the fluid.
And a fluid change should be about 1/2 that at a dealer, shop around. At minimum you need I believe 8 qts of the Hyundai SP III fluid @ $5-6/qt. It really is not a do at home project, best left to a dealer. Any shop with a tranny flush maching can do it also, just make sure they use SP III fluid.

maybe he has a standard tranny...Maybe, but you don't "flush" a manual tranny, you just change the fluid.
