Well my headlights are starting to dim again, noticed it when I pulled behind a big SUV yesterday at a stoplight and as my bass hit the lights almost shut off (1700 watt amp, 1.5 dig farad cap) is there anything I can do to stop this from happening I thought the cap was suppose to fix this problem? Also what are some good cheap blue xenon lights I can put in as my headlights/highbeams? (ebay link/store please!)

How 'bout a gounding kit? That always helps. I happen to have an extra one sitting here at my house. If you want it, I'll sell it to you $20 shipped.

Edit:

Also, forgot to add, I bought a HALO set of headlights off of eBay for $.99 plus $10 shipping, and I've had them for a month and a half. Their great, and at that price, I can aford to replace them a couple times a year. They are Xenon 4500K bulbs, and for $5.00 more, you can get the 8500K.

Look for the "aerospeed" store on eBay, that's where I got them...

only way that i know of to eliminate the dimming is to add a second battery that powers the system.

honeslty the best way to stop dimming is a new alternator, but ours cost an arm and a leg for a high amp one, heres what i do at lights and idle...i pause the music, yeah i know you probably want to show off the system but honeslty, noone really cares, and when i start moving again i resume

in another thread you said you had a fried sub. that can cause your amp to drain more current from the battery, if it is shorting out your amp and causing it to push way too much current to the sub. when things like this happen, you really need to rethink your setup. maybe instead of caps/alternators/batteries you need to carefully match equipment so that the components can all handle a given load. i know of a lot of people with >1000W of amp power who don't even use a cap and never have problems with their lights dimming.

Well I just trashed those 2 infinity subs today and ordered 2 600 RMS Kicker L5's my Cap is reading 13-14V constantly so I think maybe the blown sub was the prob I dunno we will see and go from there

nah gains are all the way down.. although with the new subs (600 rms each - S12L5's) it will be up alittle more

well when your amp is all the way up your headlights will dim more, i have noticed this in cars with systems with out a cap.

keep the amp down but not down to the point were you have no bass, also dont keep the sub bass on your headunit all the way up and see what happens, if this dont work then maybe you should look into a bigger alternator?

you've had this car for a year and you already need a new battery? jeez.

my car JUST got a new battery installed, and only because my car died last night at the fkin meet. thats 53,600 miles on the OEM original battery from day 1.

bigger optima under the hood, a ground kit and you should be fine. maby upping to a 2 farad cap. going a 2nd battery route IS overkill for your set-up. and its costs too dayum much for all the stuff needed to wire it properly. (my dual batt set-up is upwards of 500.00 w/o the batt).
