what is interesting is that you can ask them to buy a set of tail lights and mod them so that you have smoked euro lights! just wanted to give everyone a heads up.

I wish they had those for the hatch, but are those covers as in you take the red and yellow colored lense off and put that smoked grey one on or is it just a film you put over the original???

holy ****. $9 a can?? where did you get your spray?? I bought this spray that cost me $29.99 it was enough for like 2 lenses. it was hella lame. I bought it from some import store in oakland, ca (bay area). the can was all in japanese....where did you get your spray?? what brand is it?

go to the actual link and it says....basically if you want that look you have to break off your red stock lens and then after youre done breaking them off and everything is nice and cleared you stick those lenses on with the double sided tape that it has along the edges ;)

Like mentioned, the covers themselves have been available for some time now, in fact I've had a set for probably over two years. I like that they are offering to do it for you though, in fact, I might just go for these. I have the covers and an extra set of lights, but I've been too lazy to do this for a long time. I'm only worried about the quality of them once they put them together (matching edges, waterproof, etc).
Hmm. Thanks for the post Cypher.

12-14-2005, 10:09 PM
yup no problem... they said they do it for you and basically when they are done they look like the euro lights for the tib but smoked so i thought HEY maybe someone might be interested in it since we don't have many options for lights. and i know many people would be wary about busting their own tail lights!
droppedlikewhoa
12-14-2005, 11:08 PM
how do we know that the seals will be like stock? all it takes in one little piece with no seal and water will get in them and they will fog up.
SuperGLS
12-14-2005, 11:18 PM
Busting up the lights isn't the hard part, haha (well, if you have another set).
Whoa, that's what I'm saying too, although it would be easy to add some sealant if needed. Still, it's a risk the first person to get them has to take. Then if the quality seems to be up to our standards I'm sure others would be willing to buy them as well.

not that easy..
1) the stock plastic u need to break is pretty thick in some spots and its pretty hard to get the edge plastic off because of the adhesive used, plus u need to be careful u dont actually damage the chrome looking plastic under
2) after done breaking, need to sand it all down to make it even
3) Need to trim the clear covers in order to make them fit properly
4) cant just use double sided tape, unless you want water/moisture/fogging in your tails, need to use a decent glue/sealant and also a 2nd type of security closure
5) Need to covert to LED's, these can be pretty expensive... Plus when using the actual brake light, u need to find a way to intensify the light when braking rather than just when your lights are on, best method is buying seperate 10mm LEDS, then just make a pattern on ur tails drill, then seal it in

why do u need to convert to LEDS? thats just a option if you want it to look better.

I think he suggested that because the stock bulbs can be not quite bright enough in some cases, but a bunch of LEDs will be better (and look cooler perhaps).

would mounting these inside the light be any difficulty? or would it just cause a weird effect, could someone please find pics of them doing this or of anyone? i cant seem to find the process at all

I have these on my car.
You have to heat the assembly in the oven.
Then pry, not break, the stock lense of.
Do not only use the tape. it is just for putting it over your stock lense. (falls off anyway.)
Use a bead of clear windshield sealant all around the light assembly.
Put rubber bands or clamps to hold in place untill dry.
They are covers so therefore are bigger than the stock lense. Make sure they are centered well or they will not fit when reinstalling in your car.
You want to make sure these are air tight or they will collect dirt and moisture.
I would never pay that much for some dumb *** at SR to do it for you. it is simple. I suggest buying a extra set of tails from ebay to work on.

i plan on doing it myself, its just that i cant find any "tutorials"/after photos of doing it. I know that someone on there used a spray on tint to black out his tails, but i dont remember what it was called
SuperGLS
01-13-2006, 11:52 PM
You couldn't put them inside the light at all, you'd have to do a bunch of cutting work, plus, they wouldn't look darkened, kind of defeated the point.
The spray on tint is called Nite Shades. My newly acquired tails are tinted with Niteshades.

Just going through some past threads. This doesnt seem like a bad idea to do. I think it looks awesome on the silver car. The only issue I could see with these is with the cops. Do you think we would get pulled over for having clear tailinghts? Im ather unsure Ive seen some new Lexus RX330s around here with clear taillights.
Vampyrate
01-25-2006, 02:30 AM
well, if they sell them like that from the dealer, there shouldnt be a problem with it. i see cars around here all the time (especially trucks here on campus) and there is no problem that i see with them
korai9989
01-25-2006, 02:49 AM
it might be recommended that you find red taillight bulbs, because it's a bit of a safety hazzard if someone at night sees lights and not 'brake lights' they might panic, or worse, not stop when you do, haha. It would also look weird with the third brakelight...
Vampyrate
01-25-2006, 02:50 AM
well, if you just niteshade em, they show up stock color with no tint in them at all... we did it to one of my fraternity brother's car (focus svt) and they look hot

01-25-2006, 02:57 AM
Couldnt I just get red bulbs?
O wait, I see you put that LOL. I think it should work fine as long as I get the right color bulbs. The Lexus RX330 comes from the factory with the same thing, clear lights.
