Well i went to go see our good friend SED (Shawn) @ the dealer and he notice how fugly my headlights looked. So he pulled out some little tool box looking thing and inside there was a kit to fix em up..He took about 15 minutes, maybe less to do the first one. We took a cig break, and another 15 or less for the second on.. here's some before and after pics...

could you ask him to describe what he did?

It's some special product that his dealer sells. It comes with 3 bottles and sand paper...I think the first one is to break up the plastic using 400grit. he did it like twice. Then he wiped it with the second bottle. Then he brushed on the third one which was the sealer...lol does it help at all??

This is going to merely be speculation, but do you think that other hyundai dealers would have such a product, or would it be something that only a parts guy as cool as sed would have?
Also, if I got in touch with him at Rick Case Hyundai, do you think that he might be willing to source a kit for me and send it up?? I've been sick of my peeling gross headlights and just want to fix them.

I believe it was a local company or something. After the whole soap opera that happened here, I think he's kinda iffy about selling things to people abroad. But I guess it doesn't hurt to try...

Looks like it did wonders. If it's something Hyundai sells - might as well give it a shot and ask someone in any dealer parts dept. As previously mentioned, Sed might not be that willing to sell to members on EXD any longer. Can you possibly get a name of the product for the members here to ask for by name?
I'm very surprised I might add at how many headlights have come up like this. So far mine are still ok, <knock on wood>

Also, remember,, my headlights are aftermarket. The bodyshop that repaired my car didn't put OEM's. So I guess these are a cheap plastic. I was able to salvage on headlight from my accident and to this day it's crystal clear...

Well, like XTRAWLD said, there are a lot of people on here who's lights look like yours did before, with the peeling and what not. Mine have been like that since the day I got the car (second hand) and I thought at first, before joining this site and finding out it's a common problem, that I hadn't washed them properly...
Anyway, if you could get the name of the product, that would be great. Don't do anything to jeopardize anything you might have with sed though...

There are a few products out there that will give you some DIY results in cleaning the plastic as well. Plastix by Meguires is one that works fairly well, Turtle Wax Chorme polish also works well to clear up the plastic on lights. Granted, these probably don't work as well alone, as using an uber-fine-grain sandpaper, but if anyone has some bad headlights, it never hurts to try.

Plastix does repair, but I think for the amount of fogginess some people experience I don't think it works to that extent. I use it to 'clean and protect' all my lenses but don't know if it does "repairs" of that nature. Which is why the mention of sandpaper sounds like a sound solution.

yeah, I would just wet sand, but the sound of three seperate liquids as well, it sounds like it really strives to protect the lights after repair. A guy can hope, eh!

My headlights are in pretty bad shape also. I recently purchased Plastix and it worked wonders for about 2 days, until my headlights looked like crap again. I plan on wet sanding my headlights soon with a 600 grit sandpaper, then I will apply Plastix after that. Granted, it is winter time, and the headlights do accumulate alot of salt debree and build-up. I will wash the headlights first, take some before pics, do my work, take some after pics, then post results here. Give me about 3 days and I'll have it done.

well, if you find out from the site (email or something) how many headlights roughly you could do with that kit, then find that many people to chip in locally, and all get 'er done.
DAILLESTWUN
12-19-2005, 01:36 PM
Well he's not pissed that people are e-mailing him. He said if there were any questions to give him a shout...
Also, if you notice the last pic (driver's headlight) The very left hand corner was missed when he applied the final "sealer" coat. So you can see the difference...

Well the amount you get in that package is enough for like a crap load of headlights. You really only use just a dab of each bottle for each headlight...

Exactely it, waxes polishes and glazes do not repair, they hide.
If you want to do this on your own, just get a few sheets of sand paper. ie start with a 600 -> 800, 1000, 1500 maybe even a 2000 if you REALLY want a clear lens. You should be fine with just the 800 though. Then you can get the specialty *cough* lens cleaners *cough* Most are just regular sealers / glazes though.
OMG!!! I jsut read the rest of the thread and saw that PRICE!!! I'll sell something to do the exact same for $50 bucks!@!!!!

Maybe as a club, some peeps should put some money together buy the kit, and pass it around to each other. Depending on who paid. It definately works for a bunch of cars. I think there's plenty...

hmmmmm.... $60....?
I just need 2 lights done. I'd be willing to pay 10-20 for each one. SO, $40 is where I'm at, close enough to $60, but this really depends on the number lights that can be done with a 1/8 kit.
01elantra4dr, do you think I'd be able to get at least 4 lights done with the 1/8 kit?
Anyone in the Houston area care to split a 1/8 kit with me?

At 40 i will lose money 60 i'm close enough to brake enven.. The total price of the kit w shipping is 445.95 shipped then i will need to buy supplies like boxes and bottles and stuff like that. I'll email the guy to see how many headlights can be done with a full kit. I could split the kit down to a 1/16. and this might be enough for like 2 headlights but i'll double check.

I just got a response, from crystalview. The kit can restore 140 headlights.
So the kit devided by 8 means you can restore 17.5 headlights, but i will the included the "**** up factor" which mean more then lickley 1/8 of the kit will clean 10 headlight or 5 cars.
For does who were planing to clean the headlight of other people to recoop the money spent. This is the best deal since to recoop the money (if you charge 15 per headlight) you need to clean 4 headlights.

Hey hyunelan, are you on that site?? I'm just going to register because there are a bunch of Canadians all scratching each others backs about getting products and what not, and I thought I would join in. Anyway, I'm going through the registration process, and thought if you were a member, I'd put you as a referrer.
