HELP!
2004 Elantra GT 25,000 miles.
My engine won't start unless I fiddle with the clutch pedal. I'm assuming the the switch on the clutch pedal needs to be replaced. That doesn't seem like a big deal.
I didn't buy the car from them but due to living and work Ricart Hyundai in Columbus OH seems close by.
When I called them to schedule an appointment and after explaining the symptoms the phone advisor asked me about maintenance.
I explained that my car has had regular oil changes every 3,000 miles and I have documentation from Firestone to prove this. Also, I have purchased a lifetime alignment and tires from Firestone (an ASE certified service center) and I thought of that as an acceptable maintenance habit.
Then they probed me concerning the 15,000 mi marker which my maintenance log simply asks for visual inspections (which I did personally) and at that time I bought an K&N air filter.
In my mind this all seemed like a responsible owner caring for the car.
They proceeded to tell me on the phone that spark plugs, air filters (regardless of the K&N), coolant, and all kinds of detailed inspections would have to take place at 30,000 mi or they could void my warranty.
I'm reviewing my log booklet and the only replacement requirement I can find is coolant......just more of the required visual inspections are necessary.
My question of need is......
Can they void my warranty because Firestone not a Hyundai dealership changed my oil, maintained my car, and I personally did visual inspections?
-I've always had old used cars and did my own work, (minus oil - just so busy) I considered that to be acceptable maintenance of a vehicle.
Your input is greatly appreciated!
