Tonight I was coming home from Arby's and notice this car following me.I wonder,hmmm,it's the got damn police.They follow for about a mile or so and BAM! Lights come on.Im pissed at this point,what did I do this time I wondered.Det Hardass comes up to the car and says "did your accelerator get stuck?" Im like WTF are you talking about.You know the usual license and reg.Im goin to give you a SERO(safety equipment repair order) for your exhaust,because I know its not stock.Im like "what ever gave you that idea?"I said no problem,I work at a dealership and i'll get it taken care of.Mind you,im trying to stay calm.He says alright and if after 30 days you have the same exhaust on,im goin to take your tags.I said what the fXck ever.So now im goin to have this asshat on my case from now on just so he can try to make an example of me.So now im wondering if I should keep with the NX install or what for the time being.Oh well,I have 2 stock midpipes at work so its stock time again:( and i'll mod the other pipe for the new converter i received.Man this pisses me off so bad.All these gotdamn jacked up redneck *** pickups with no exhaust what so ever,and our little cars get singled out.I think its time to get out of this f-ing town.Sorry for the long rant

well i have a header with a res and a straight thru muffler.I've got plans goin on in my head about the fix,but im goin back to stock far a while til i get my other pipe and cat done up

It's really not that bad.The thing is,there was a cadet in the car and he had to play the role of the Hardass to prove a point.Thats alright though,things happen for a reason.It just means i'll have to make a better,more under the radar kind of exhaust.I knew I would get pulled over at one point or another,but ****,every car i've owned has been loud and I really never had a problem til now.I guess its the whole rookie thing.I dunno,im done stressing over it.

being that i'm from maryland i'm going to pop in here... around here what you see the most is JACKED UP LOUD AS ALL ****IN HELL REDNECK TRUCKS... think i'm lying? i can dig up a pic of a guy who graduated with me. tires were like 28" and had a big f***in lift kit on it... he was 6 and a half feet tall and the truck still had several feet on him. he was only like a foot taller than the foot stool to get inot the truck. in my town 05xd the town clowns are close with teh rednecks. i've seen when the rednecks are revving their engines the cops come up and do it too! my friend told me the other night the rednecks were doing donuts in the one plaza and a cop did one too!!! WTF?! **** the police they aren't good for anything.

Most states have a 95 DBL exhaust sound limit. The cop probably thought it was louder. The true way is a sound meter, which courts generally want for proof it was louder than 95 DBL's.

And that was after a 13hour stuck in a swamp...took 2 tractors and a whole lot of work to get us out... my sig shows the truck stuck in the muddy soup.....And as for the rust it takes alot of skills to get that rust to happen in just the right places....lol.

a friend of mine put a big coffee can muffler on his firebird a few months ago and it was really loud but it had a deep sound to it, his neighbors hated it though and called the police on him. well they came to his house with a deciometer<i think thats what its called> it looked like a microphone. and his reading was 3 decibals from being illegal. so i say fight the ticket. your gonna win because they have to measure the sound to actually give you a ticket.

They don't always have to have a meter to give you an exhaust ticket. There are many states that simply say "any non-OEM exhaust is illegal". There is a thread about that somewhere, either here or the archives, which quotes a lot of state laws.

i didn't know that it was illegal is some places to have non-oem. I don't know what site i found the info from but it had listings of state laws in regards to the noise level. I think the average was nothing above 96db

State to state is WIDELY different, but here is what Illinois says:
No person shall modify the exhaust system of a motor vehicle in a manner which will amplify or increase the noise of such vehicle above that emitted by the muffler originally installed on the vehicle, and such original muffler shall comply with all the requirements of this Section.
