What's up with the blatant disregard of the COTM rules? Especially 2 and 4.

So who will be the first COTM for the New Year?

Read the rules below before submitting your nomination.

All nominations that do not meet the guidelines will not be used for voting.

Rules for Car of the Month:
...
2. Provide at least 5 high quality pictures (shots of exterior, interior and engine are required). Starting January 2005 we'll be requesting that only high quality photos be submitted for COTM candidates. Also, we'll only want pics that sized at 800x600. Also, we'll only except clean pictures, meaning not ones uploaded to car domain (or other such sites) with their logo on it. It is also reccomended to have one simple 3/4 shot (without license plates), which looks best in the header, in case your car wins.
...
4. The winner will be chosen by ElantraXD.com community. The voting will start on 20th day of the month and no more nominations for that month will be accepted. The polls will be closed on 28th day of the month.
...

Please pay close attention to rule #2.

I don't get it? Other times, you guys were sticklers about people's pics and they didn't even MAKE it to the voting...

And what about paying CLOSE attention to rule 2?
The ONLY person that followed it fully was Paki IMO.

And what about IF jump doesn't edit his posts in time? Those votes go to waste? Whats up with that?

I really think you need to FOLLOW your own guidelines to make this a more "legitimate" process.

Please Vote and Comment.

I say let it ride... but it is hard to judge a car overall without the pics of all areas of the car. Also it's really annoying when I have to scroll horizontally to view pics.

I was a little upset just due to the fact when i entered a few months ago (before dec COTM) i put in pics that were the wrong size, and i got a PM w/in a day or 2 saying resize or no vote. im not going to raise any hell about it, but i do think that the rules should be followed. theyre there for a reason.

yeah i do have to admit that the rules are getting bent/too reinforced now and then, but i just dont want this to become a reason for a person leaving the forum or anything like that

There should be NO reason someone would leave this forum because they nominated themselves, and DID NOT meet the requirements. They should of read the RULES before. But I guess the RULES mean nothing at this moment.

i think it should be by the rules. in the few cotm's i've ran in, the rules have been enforced in every single one. if we're gonna let this one slide by, we should go back through all the COTM's and redo them. like the guy who had the white xd w/ a c/f hood and an R34 kit.. he wasnt allowed cuz it said "CarDomain.com" on his pics.

yeah yeah like i said

i totally understand...

but if you got a problem with the rules... PM RCKOZMA, dont cry your issues out loud to the world... do it right the first time before starting little 'debates' like these man

i'm sure if you pm'ed him about this he would do something to fix the situation

btw you can delete a single option of a poll/ alter the other numbers and whatnot in vbulletin

I CHATTED with rckozma on AIM and talked to him about this before the COTM poll was up. I'm just trying to voice out my opinion which it looks like some other people AGREE with.

And I'm just noticing some hypocrisy in how other COTM nominations IN THE PAST were not allowed to enter, but this one seems not as strict. Sure its good to have MANY entrys, but its even better to have follow the same RULES that have been up for a year or more.

I agree rules are rules. But this is getting out of hand. Someone forgets or cant comply because they dont know how. And because of that it turns in to a big thing out of a little thing. We are all adults for the most part. Cant we come together and help one another instead of jumping all over them.
First the problem with noobies and search, did we all forget we were all noobies once.
Now with the COTM.
I like this forum but this is getting to be a bit much. Whatever happend to helping instead of *****ing?
We can poke fun at eachother all day long, but when something happens outside normal boundries. The genral thought is to hang the offender. :(

Eh so then why wasn't the WHITE R34 XD in the past COTM ON THE POLL, and given an EXTRA week to modify his pics????

And sorry I can't keep my mouth shut, we do have freedom of speech correct? I'm just trying to make some helpful suggestions.

And I have NOTHING against those that didn't follow the rules. I love their cars, just I believe they should of taken alittle more preparation time to make their pictures more "COTM worthy."

you people fight wayyyy to much, this is insane. i agree its not fair to disregard the rules this time when before people were not allowed to run because of them (like that awesome white R34 XD). but seriously, if you want the pics resized, WHY DONT YOU DO IT? theres a thought....help each other....crazy huh?

as for the interior pic thing, politely ask them to take a picture, dont start a thread *****ing about it....the core group of this site are all starting to fight amongst themselves and it really should stop....everyone needs to chill....

but we do need to figure out whats gonna happen with this months poll.... so i dunno...

oh and im the one who voted "i dont vote who cares" by mistake lol i vote every month. my bad ;)

Yeah...

Well I don't know, my guess would be the fact that the moderation here keeps getting too 'nice'

I remember the days (about 8-9 months ago) where super/a mod would close topics real easily. Yes, from time to time there were flam topics entitled 'F*** 99% of the moderators' and such, but at least the threads that were on topic were, well, ON TOPIC.

I am turning this into a rant. Screw it, its the flame for afterall.

Instead of pointing out things, why don't people do it themselves and SHOW others? For instance, instead of saying SEARCH: find the thread, link it, quote it, and THEN tell them to search. If EVERYTHING has been answered at least once, then the forum would not have any activity at all.

Back on topic:

Why do you care, CTele? That's precisely what i'm trying to figure out. How is this event harming you in any way?

I'm sorry that ME stating FACTS seems "angry" or "*****ing" but I'm not actually mad, I'm just trying to give some helpful suggestions and my observations on how the Poll should follow the Rules at all times.

i just wish we could...

sometimes taking things too seriously screws everything up...

I guess the person to blame would be whoever decided to impose these rules...

But then again it's all in good intentions.

So we can't blame him (Super). He just wants high quality pics for his website.

Basically the people who run for COTM are to blame.

Then again... Listen to yourself. You want to point out jumpan? His pics ARE 800*600. Nowhere in the rules is written that your pic cannot contain a black border. that's why they gave him a week. He's smart, he found a loophole in the rules, so he used it. lawyers always do that. give him the credit to have thought of that and let him run...

If you already talked to Rob, I'm sure he's dealing with it.

And sorry I can't keep my mouth shut, we do have freedom of speech correct?

I always like to say this when people start talking about the bill of rights on the internet: There is no extension of American rights onto a private website, which is made up of members from around the world, from many nations. I'm not saying that freedom of speech shouldn't be allowed, but don't assume the first ammendment is upheld on the internet. On whatever particular forum you may be visiting - the owner/administrator is the Judge, Jury, and Executioner.

Why do you care, CTele? That's precisely what i'm trying to figure out. How is this event harming you in any way?
Its not harming ME in ANY way, it just seems unfair to those that have been subjected to these rules in the past, while now several people are allowed to bend them. Sorry that I'm the type that when I see something "wrong" and have "evidence" and "proof" that shows why that thing is "wrong" I bring it up, I'm not afraid to voice my opinion and attach facts to them. I'm in no way an attorney or a lawyer, I just think thats how Democracy worked? You know, you point out something wrong, you show evidence, and you see if others agree to have that wrongness fixed, so it doesn't happen again. And its not my money, its Super, he can do whatever he wants, he can delete this and it will be erased from internet history or whatever, who cares, its just a bunch of random 1s and 0s, but while I have the ability to modify those 1s and 0s, I will :)

If you have a "helpful" suggestion or observation. Instead of making a big "to-do" about it in the flame section you should PM Rckozma and ask him why.
I mean GIVE ME A F$$#&#^in break dude. Its COTM, poll!! what do you win???!!!
If your going to be a freedom fighter for worthy causes atleast pick a worthy cause. What about your presidents illegal elections lol <---- :D

I get feelings of internet trolls when I read this post, back when it was just me Jay and Talgat as moderators. We don't have any trolls on here anymore.

I'm sorry that ME stating FACTS seems "angry" or "*****ing" but I'm not actually mad, I'm just trying to give some helpful suggestions and my observations on how the Poll should follow the Rules at all times.

Thats right to Mike, I'm not American and the Bill of Rights doesn't apply to me ;)

so delete the whole thing, everyone submit NEW, CORRECT size pics and we'll do it again :) problem solved

Or we could just cancell the whole thing. Maybe that would make Ctele02 happy.
Kinda like when one kid in class can't share a toy so the teacher takes it away from the entire class. :D :D lol

i think that ctele02 isn;t really mad in this first post. He is just stating the facts... The rules are set out for a reason and maybe they are not the right rules and maybe they need to be changed but that is another topic...The current rules should still be followed... however a person wishing to participate in the cotm should also be given a chance to edit there pics or add pics that are required, or resize their current ones within a reasonable timeline... if they are unable to then they can always wait till the next cotm poll and have everything ready to go and enter then...Having rules that are constantly bent or changed or made up as we go causes low moral among everyone... That is how things happen at my work...One boss says this is the rule and another says that is wrong and this is the rule. It just doesn;t work.

The argueing and fighting between members needs to stop. Reading all of this makes me not want to participate in some of the threads in fear of being berated by other members and if we are trying to get more people to join the community i don;t think having threads full of arguments is going to draw in the right people....

Just my 2cents....

Well said Alienman, however a conversation or minor argument (if it stays that way) is healthy and makes most people want to interact with other members.

And don't get me wrong, I agree that the rules should be followed, I just don't like the way Ctele02 went on about it.

If these rules have been used in the past to disallow folks from entering COTM then it is fair that they be enforced now.. unless the rules are to change for everyone....

Well I was wondering when this would come up. But honestly I though it would have been done in the proper manner, through PM's.

KeWLKaT gets the prize. The rules state 800x600, he added borders to the pics to get them to 800x600. I guarantee before next months running there will be a rule about that, there was not one in place when he did it so that is why he was given until the 26th to correct his pics or be disqualified. He has been sent PM's about this. This extension was not mine solely, I consulted with SuperGLS on this and we felt this to be the best solution.

And I'm just noticing some hypocrisy in how other COTM nominations IN THE PAST were not allowed to enter, but this one seems not as strict. Sure its good to have MANY entrys, but its even better to have follow the same RULES that have been up for a year or more.

Before you posted this you probably should have reviewed the prior COTM posts, which you can do now if you want. The 800x600 rule is not an absolute, there are several pics that were accepted that weren't exactly 800x600 or high quality (ie. 600x400 like evans was). But if they were way off then yes you get the PM to change them. It was almost a year of that rule being in effect before we even started enforcing it.

If you have anymore questions about this then send me a PM. I am going to consider this case closed.

I'd like to thank all of you for voicing your opinions.

Second I'd like to thank Rob for doing all the work he does with the Car of the Month section, but as everyone knows, that's why he gets paid the big bucks... right...

All we're looking for is nice looking pictures so when someone stumbles upon the site they don't see anything that I would be embarrassed about. Many of the people who run for COTM have beautiful cars with a LOT of money put into them. It's hard to imagine that in this day and age someone with this type of money can't buy a $100 digital camera and take some high quality pictures. I have a 2.0 megapixel camera that cost me $105 over a year ago that takes pictures that look very good (see my member profile thread if you must). Even if you don't want to go that route, all you have to do is buy a disposable camera, take 15-20 pictures, go to Walmart (or wherever) and sit there and use that little machine to put the pics on a CD (total cost less than $20). Perhaps this is too much to ask? A lot of us don't have a lot of money, but I know that we each have $20 that we could use for this.

Starting in February we (Rob and I) will not let the rules bend at all, and if none of the nominees meet the requirements then my car will be COTM, every month if it has to be. (Perhaps this is the reason that many car forums have the admin/mods simply pick forum members instead of having a member vote).

Class dismissed!
