I have this grill on my XD2 and it looks damn sexy when you have it all painted and on your car, it's probably the first thing most people ask me: "Is that the stock grill?"

I have no idea how I'm going to get the mesh painted black and the grill painted blue.
It's already glued together and everything.
I'll leave it up to the bodyshop I guess...
But atleast I'm putting the H on it :)

Paint it yourself! I'm serious!
Maybe you can get a spare stock grill to practice on...

It was painted with custom mixed rattle cans made by my local paint shop, $12 a pop and they seem to have about 50% more paint than your average rattle can.
The red is custom matched to the paint that was already on the bike, I painted some entire panels and parts of others. Everywhere you see lettering I'd masked off and painted around and then knocked down the edge with 800grit wet/dry before clearcoating. The grey is just picked out of a PPG book.
The red is an EXACT match for the color, you can't tell at all where I blended them other than one spot where I left a little ridge.
They shoot the paint color with a special camera which gives them the formula for the paint and then mix it and inject into the cans. The cans were SEM brand, PPG paint and I used U-POL #1 clear with Ditzler wax and grease remover before painting.
I just wanted to give you this as an idea, I'm no pro at all (this was my first bike) and I'm really happy with the way it came out. So for maybe $30-40 you could have it done and on the car. @$12 for the paint, $10 for the clear and some sand paper and a pack of prep wipes.
The paints can be made in a single coat gloss or base/clear. If you want to try this get a can trigger too, its save your finger and give you much better control. I'd paint the whole this the base (outside) color and then after it sets up use a brush to paint the mesh if you can't mask it. If you'ren careful you can get all the edges and then just hit the middle parts quickly. Or maybe you could paint the mesh first and mask it front and back before painting the edge, depends on how exactly it goes together.

So far its holding up perfectly but I've only put on about 5,000mi since I painted it. No problems with gas or bug guts though.

paint it all black first (flat black) and then tape off the mesh when it dries and hit the rest with the blue... then to seal the deal, get a clear coat to make it all shiny.
