Thread title says it all. Who is the manufacturer of the OEM fog lights for the 05 elantras? Hella, Stanly, Valeo etc etc?

Also, what bulbs do the OEM fogs use…9006?

While I have you guys here. Does installing the OEM fogs yourself (like half the threads here talk about) anger the dealerships and can it affect the warranty? What if I wired it all OEM, but used different lights…which they’ll obviously see. As opposed to OEM fogs, which they might not immediately notice as having been installed aftermarket.

Someone did the install like OEM. Even using an available relay socket in the engine elect. panel and everything....If you got the patience and some know how, it can be done..............

As far as warranty goes, you should be okay. The only thing is: If your wiring was DIRECTLY related to a issue that IS covered by warranty would that portion of the warranty be "voided" and you'd have to pay for work.

For instance: Your wiring caused the meltdown of your fuse relay box under the hood, then it isn't covered. It would be covered, say, if your cruise control relay melted on its own accord and caused the relay box to melt down.

OEM fog lights would be my suggestion, because they'll fit right in. They do use 9006 bulbs, but you could get any quality of 9006 bulb you want. As far as the wiring, I would go to a junk yard and take all the parts off of one there, including the "wiring harness", just the part that plugs into the bulb and a little bit of the wire. Then just wire the grounds together to a ground and wire each power wire to each side marker in the bumper. The fogs would come on any time you put the parking lights on. That's the easy way, but of course you could wire it any way you wanted.

Good luck, and since it looks like you are new to the site, WELCOME!!!

hey whats up guys. Thanks for the answers. The car first of all is a ‘05 rally red elantra and it belongs to my GF. But since I’m the one going all the work and mods I figured I ought to join this forum.

A lil’bit about me.

I am a very well established member over at hidplanet.com [which happens to be down this second. I go by LEDZ there if you want to check it out]

I have a heavy background in lighting mods. My personal Mercedes E420 runs 90/130 watt H4’s in E-code headlights with 100 watt H3 foglights on a custom harness I built using about 4 Bosch relays controlling the whole deal...all using the factory switch. Its sweet if I do say so myself. I'm saving a bixenon mod for my next car. My first lighting mod ever was to adapt 9005 bulbs to fit into 9006 sockets. As far as I know I was the first to do it. But that was a HELLA long time ago. Thats all old news now. :(

anywho, back to the topic at hand. The Elantra is a new car for my GF and of course is all under warranty, so I don’t want to do a mod that could hurt that.

I am planning on using Hella Micro DE fog lights because they are the best projector fogs IMO. No offence to the Hyundai ones. I was hoping to find out who actually manufactures the Hyundai fog lights to kind of get an idea as to type of optics we're talking about just to see how well they compare.

If all works out, I’ll prolly go with what you guys have discussed, and that is using the factory switch to trip the relay, but I'll prolly run a direct line from the battery to the lights. That way, the lights will get all the power they want without putting a drain on other systems. Fabricating mounts for the Hella lights with be the hardest thing to do, and I really don’t foresee too many problems with that.

wow that’s a long post, especially for a lame newbie like me eh? Heh, anyway, thanks for all the help so far guys. This forum is a great resource. I'll undoubtedly be back with a bunch more questions. :D

peace. :drive:

Don't know what the OEM brand is, but their cost, considering you only get the lights, (no relay, wiring, switch) is obscene.
For my '05 GLS, I bought an Hella Optilux 1100 projection fog light kit that includes everything and looks just like OEM. The only thing lacking was a way to attach them to the bumper. I fabricated some brackets out of .032" sheet aluminium using the dummy covers in the bumper as a template.
I am not sure if you can see it in the attachment, but the results were excellent.
I have also seen these same lights fitted as OEM to BMW, Audi, and VW. As far as looks, they don't add much to appearance, but for effectiveness in real fog they are very good at spreading the light field to the sides, as a good set of fog lamps should. Just used them last night in fog.
