you could snip the power wire going to it and put a splie over it so i dont short out. or there might be a clip going to it somewhere i dont konw i havent got back there yet.

if your looking to get rid of the 3rd brake light, there are two clips under it in the trunk. Once you push the two clips, you pull it out from inside the car. Don't pull it out quickly cause you have to disconnect the wiring harness that goes to the light. I believe its just a plug.

I don't know if this'll set off a trouble code Anyone?

There shouldn't be any trouble code... I had mine out for a little while back in October and I never had any problems.

Why not just leave it there? Then you could just take out the bulb and it wouldn't light up any more. Besides, if you remove the whole assembly, wouldn't you have a gaping hole there. Just a thought...

And... we have basically the same car.

^^^ And I did think about that as well, just as far as unplugging it... there shouldn't be any trouble.

When you remove the third brake light, nothing happens. Also, there is a cover that goes over the holes it leaves that you can get from the dealer.

I'll vote for you for president if you take it out and then use the wires to power this:

my question about this, would the cover provided by the dealer be a plastic piece that just sits ontop of the carpeting, or something that would look somewhat "hidden" unless looking for it?

Well, if it's only a plastic piece, try gluing carpet on top of it, iono

That 3rd brake light cover isn't available from the dealer as a seperate piece. You have to get it with the spoiler! SuperGLS sold me one awhile back otherwise I'd have been screwed. Best bet is to take the bulb out & leave the light assembly unless you can find the cover from a junk yard.

Correct, my dealer wouldn't sell it seperately either. (After I sold the one I had to 2001GLS, because I thought I had another one, but had sold that one too, HA). Actually the guy at the dealer (and most dealers I'm sure) couldn't even find it in the computer or anything. You can find it on the Hyundai Online Parts site, but I didn't order it because I wasn't 100% sure I was going to get the right piece. So, I was able to get one from another member, which is probably your best bet.

Also, it clips into place, so it's not just sitting there. Be warned, if you have tint and you do this, you'll have a spot where the light was that isn't tinted that makes you look like Ricer Rick (from MCM's latest video), trust me, I know.

You must have gone to cheap as tinter place. The tint place i went to took like light off and tinted the whole thing.

Not cheap, just following the law. I guess... I should have thought about it beforehand, that way I would have taken it out myself. Oh wells.

Law? I never heard of that must be different in texas because I never see anyone with out tint over the brake light
