If someone doesn't get there money they can send it back three times to try and get there money (in TX anyway). Those re-attempts can cause the multiple overdraft charges.

I think they only have to wait an hour or something along those lines. Most places that are not into f'n there customers will wait 24hours to try again.

I've been with 'em for about 10 years and I love them. Maybe it just depends on where you are or something. I opened the account with Nations Bank in SC. They've been great to me, I bought my house through them, I have 2 credit cards through 'em, and my checking account.

I work for a bank (PNC Bank in Pittsburgh) and our customers either swear by us and/or swear at us. All banks screw around with their customers one way or another and they love to tack on fees. No one ever wakes up and says "yay...i have to go to the bank today...yay yay yay!" and banks know this. I know it sucks but you bank with one bank until they screw you over and then you threaten them that you will take your business elsewhere. A good bank will try to schmooze you with some offers or something. But some will say "screw you" and then you take your business elsewhere. All the big banks (Bank of America is one of the largest in the country) screw with their customers. So my best advice to you is go to a local bank or a credit union.

I would go with BB&T, when you have a checking account with them they give you a credit line. If you overdraw on the account they will front you the money without any overdraft charges. They will then start deducting the money in small increments, slowly paying back your credit line. It is better than overdrawing on your account.

I have an account at http://www.nasafcu.com and they are AMAZING. Great people. Been a member since three months after I was born and can't say enough good things about 'em... but they only have like half a dozen ATMs in the entire world. When I moved away from the DC area, I had to sign on with some national just so's I could have someone local to deal with; I have a checking account with BoA and don't want any more than that, especially after hearing about all the ish you're going through. :(

Yeah, all banks blow... If I could, I'd keep it all hidden in the house and protect it with some firepower...
but on the topic, when we moved here, my wife was "persuaded" by the branch of the bank out here to transfer her account out from the branch back west where we used to live... They then proceeded to "conveniently forget" to close the account back west, which accumulated service charges. She had to go back 2 or 3 times to get them to fix it, but I still don't trust them, and I won't be surprised that she gets another bill in the mail... If that happens, I'm gonna lose it and go there myself and kick the bank manager's a$$...

yeah, they basically told me today that i was over drawn and that i had to pay the fines

and i not so kindly relpied the money was stolen dumbass, look at your records from the norton,va branch and you will see a call placed... so either remove the charges or you arent getting paid a dime, and you can take me to court over that. and this time, big bad bank wont win

I've had BofA for over 20 years and even when we had overdraft, we somehow talked them out of the charges. The refunded all of them. That was a while back, though.

We have our mortgage through Wells Fargo and they seem to do a great job. We've been kind of waiting for BofA to mess up and then we'll move to WF, but it hasn't happened yet.

So the reason you hate the bank is because you overdrafted, and they screwed you back? Sounds like both of you guys screwed each other LOL. But on a serious note, you should get a campus edge account. No fees, and your first overdraft fee is taken away.

reece, thats what i have, and the thing is, they are trying to **** me over because i was a victim of theft... they can blow me

Vamp: My advice to you is this: document EVERYTHING you can about the theft, the overdraft fees, etc.... the whole incident. Get copies of EVERYTHING, and write a long letter ot BofA with details of what happened. Check your bank statement; it probably says that you have so many days to bring errors to their attention *in writing*. Send your letter and all the copies to the address provided with that notice. It may take a while and I know money is tight, but be patient. The best way to get results out of a financial institution is to play their game, which means everything needs to be in writing; not over the phone, and not verbally at the branch. Do this. It's an investment of time, but it's time better spent than trying to get an instant fix over the phone and then they don't follow through. Also, if you put your request in writing, they will respond in writing, and if they agree in the response to recind the fees, that's binding.

Chalk this up to a life lesson. Learn how to deal with a bank; it won't be the last time. And when you're done you'll be ahead of the pack for knowing how to do this.

Good luck. You will win.

This is the shortened version of the letter that I sent them (had to be less than 30 lines in their stupid little box):
I have been trying to resolve this since the first incident occured. I have a CampusEdge Checking account and someone got into my account and stole $149.95 from it, causing a massive overdraft fee. When the money was finally put back into the bank on 1/31, I was hit with 6 additional overdraft fees that are not my fault in the slightest exept for 1 or 2 that I have documentaion for. Why am I being penalized for being a victim of theft. It is on the Fraud department's records of this happening and has been recorded from when I went into the local branch in Norton, VA. I feel that it is unfair and totally wrong to charge people for being victimized. In previous emails sent to you, I have said that I refuse to pay the amount overdrawn on the account for just that reason. I still stand by that and would like to see something done rather than the run around that I have gotten. I am losing my patience and trust with this bank, and have no problem switching to another bank without paying the overdraft fees. If I must, I will pay for the amounts that I can attest to the overdraft that I am responsible for, but nothing more. I have nothing against being taken to court for such reasons and am not afraid to, but I would like to see this resolved before it becomes that serious. If anyone in the company could at least show some compassion and not just send me some automated response, that would be greatly appreciated, and I will continue to bank with you. If not, then I will be leaving this bank for another.
Thank you for taking the time to read this and at least trying to do something in my favor.

-Aaron M. Dorsey

SEND IT IN THE MAIL.... If you really want to get some attention, send it REGISTERED MAIL. It sends the message you mean business. The internet form is just as useless as phone or verbal at the branch. Send a letter in the U.S. Postal Service. Seriously. It WILL make a difference.

Basically, most banks provide several avenues to address concerns, but if you look in the customer agreements, the only "official" method of communications is a letter sent in the mail. Everything else is just a convenience (mostly for the bank). You really need to send a letter. If you don't have it on your bill, you can probably find it on the website or ask on the phone.

My mortgage was messed up. I paid ahead and they started dinging me for charges because they said I was behind (wtf??) I called every month for three months and over the phone they assured me everything was fine. The next month it was still screwed up. I finally wrote a letter and two days later I got a letter with them telling me that everything was fixed and properly credited. Problem solved.
