ON/QC Meet in spring

This is a longshot, but here we go. I had discussed this with robs02elantra a while back, I think it's a good idea. We want to set up a ON/QC meet. Now. We don't know where we should do it. So help a brother out by voting where you think would be better to do the meet, ON or QC, and if you have any specific ideas/areas, postup :)

Why this meet? Well, to have fun and get to know the rare members from the area on this site. Also, this will be a perfect opportunity to set-up meeting points/strategic roads for the HITH meet in June (if going).

I also like Ottawa as a choice. It's on the border, so if we wanted to take in some sites from both sides of the cultural divide, we can easily set up a drive through QC in the Gatineaus or something.

Another idea would be to meet up at Mont Tremblant. The areas around there are just fantastic...and it's where I was taught how to rally race!! So some nice twisty roads and what not.
I lived in Ottawa for 90% of the time I've been in Canada, so I know it quite well. If the guys on here from there don't chime in, just let me know what we're looking for and I can try to set something nice up.

My wife also informs me that up at tremblant there is a racetrack, apparently.

As for the possible meet, it could always be planned so that we could all meet in Ottawa and heard over to Montreal for the "night time portion" of the meet :D

and what role would this "insider" play? There are a few people on here from Ottawa, but not a lot of them are regular posters, so let's see if someone jumps up for the position of insider, and if not then I've lived there for 80% of my time in Canada and know the area like the back of my hand. There are a bunch of great spots that we can go for photos and what not, and some pretty good drives in the area as well.

hmm, perhaps 02 Elantra (new guy from Ottawa) can help us out!

I am thinking that we could drive up to the top of the mountain area overlooking the Ottawa river near the Gov. General's place, there is a lookout near the restaurant on the river there which is nice and high. There are also a lot of nice places on the river out near rockliffe that would be great as well! Depending on what people might want to go for. If we went out that way, we could take the ferry out to the QC side as well, all the cars taking up a whole ferry would make a pretty sweet picture.

Anyway, lots of ideas, lets see where it goes and what people want to do.

Well I for one am interested in a meet ... but as far as being the insider ... i dont know ... due to the fact that i've never done anything like this before and i dont really know the "COOL" spots in the area because from my experience you're not cool if you dont drive a honda ... so i just stay home ... yeah that sounds korny but that's the sad truth ... that's also why i think this is a great idea ... show them how it's done!!!

the ferry idea sounds good ... i'd love that picture ... but there is not much across the river ... in my opinion anyway.

yeah, there isn't much in Hull (sorry, Gatineau...why change the name because it sounds gross...we all know that Hull is dirty. I love a lot of QC, but just not Hull!). Either way, I just thought I would throw a lot of ideas out there and see if any of them take.

yeah well for those of you who have a loud car (like me) be ready to baffle it up cause the cops are bad around here ... with this nice OTTAWA NOISE BY-LAW and the new 365.00$ ticket for improper muffler .... just thought of that right now and i guess it's pretty important if all you guys are gonna be coming around here ....

got 3 of those when they were 110.00$ (130.00$ in gatineau) at those prices i was willing to take my chances ... but 365.00$ you have to think twice ... and i think that that's only for Ottawa ... might have to look into that ....

good call there, though I do drop by there all the time and haven't had a trouble yet. I believe as long as you arent heavy on the gas in like the market area or around the rideau area things chould be just fine. I know there are a ton of brick building corridors there that can really echo!

well you have a point ... you'd be surprised, the last time i was just pulling up in front of the store where i work to pick up my girlfriend and the cop spotted me and he came over and read me the laws and by-laws. the only times i have gotten polled over were the actual times where i wasn't doing something stupid ... which i still cant get over. 1 car might have a chance .... i'll say 15-20 cars (just for the sake of the argument) driving around in a convoy / meeting somewhere ... is bound to attract all kinds of attention ... i really wish it still happens here in ottawa ... but everyone should be warned about the great by-laws of this city.

i didn't want to make it sound like we shouldn't do anything around here in ottawa ... it's just that we have different rules and regulations around here ... it's just a matter of being careful ... there are car shows and things like that around here in mall parking lots with pretty crazy things going on ... no cop trouble that i know of ... i guess they are more worried about the whole street racing associated with that kind of meeting.

i for one dont know if i'll be able to get the time off for a trip / event this spring / summer ... as much as i want to we'll just have to see :)

Well, post 1,000 goes to a worthy cause. First, my wife has asked if I would dedicate the post to her, for letting me on here so often and for supporting me as much as she can with the car!!!

Second. Why don't we try and get in contact with the Ottawa police, explain what we hope to do and find out if they can reccomend any good places that we might be able to meet up and say hello to each other. I know it sounds extreme (and I would be up for taking on the task myself) but I think openness with the cops will help in this situation, we might gain their respect for wanting to do the right thing. Plus, I know a couple of cops in Ottawa, we can see what they have to say first.

I think it might be fine Rob, perhaps let me handle that one for you as I am a military member and we do business with Ottawa Police all the time. If there are any specific dates that would be great, but a general area from them would work also. Even if im not able to attend I can at least chip in!

Ok update, I made contact with the Ottawa police and the OPP. I have pleaded our case and they should be getting back to me in the next day or two (fingers crossed). It didnt sound too bad when we spoke, but they are just concerned about other groups seeing our little get together. Will update with more later!

OK guys i dont know if you liked the go-karting idea, but i looked on google, and here is some place i found, anyone in the area tell me if it's a good place :) And if someone (near) could call it would be nice also... If we can get a small group together we could maybe make a mini-grand-prix or something, and now we'll really see who knows how to drive and who doesn't :D

thats right I agree, there is a whole lot of the city to be seen, though some legal go-karting is always a thrill. Well the OPP got in contact with me and were wondering about dates and how many people would be in attendance, only because they wanted to stop by and see what was going on when we first met up that way they could clearly explain a few things to us. Not to make trouble or issue tickets, but just to ensure that things go smoothly for us. I told them that I wasnt sure about dates but just wanted a general area to meet, so he told me that my name would be kept on paper and to inform them when we were all in town. I may catch some flak for this at a later time but for now things seem like a go!

For the meet, I might have a suggestion for you guys. I was discussing with Felix but we were getting WAY off topic. If my memory serves me right, the parking lot is pretty limited at the Taco Bell. It might be better for you guys to set-up the meet at the Tim Hortons on Belfast Road. Usually, it is pretty busy on weekends but in the afternoon, there might be enough room for everyone. Plus, coffee is good there! :D

Here is a map of where I am talking about. If you look at the place where the meeting has been set-up, it is a little more to the north-west. If you were coming off the 417 Westbound, you would take St-Laurent Blvd. exit, turn left at the light at the end of the off-ramp, then you would pass 2 sets of light and when you arrive to the 3rd, it is Belfast. You can't miss it as there is the big OC Transpo building on your right (city buses). Your turn right on Belfast and maybe 750 meters further, you have the Tim Horton's on your left.

I believe that spot would be more appropriate for your guys.
