I don't like to listen to any music while I'm racing. I would rather listen to the car to see what's going on...

Static X is a good choice. I prefer hard core.............Fear Factory for example. That will get my ire really flowin'. :halm:

i would have to say block rockin beats or bass test by chemical brothers, just the hit of the bass really gets me
but most of the time i listen to killswitch engage, i end up screaming along to it and just flooring it

Disclaimer: I'm an old fart and don't race.
However, when driving for, um, "enjoyment", I like something with a strong, but varied drum beat. A couple of things that come to mind are "YYZ" from Rush's Moving Pictures album, and most of the Who's Quadrophenia and Led Zeppelin's Physical Grafitti.

doohickie, i think you are getting cooler and cooler with every post, i cant get enough YYZ. if you want to listen to some really effed up beats, check out Liquid Tension Experiment and Dream Theater. and i don't do laps or drag, i do endurance races and so far im in the lead with my circle of friends. my record is 14 hours in one day with only stops for gas every 300 miles

Me, a sleeping wife, a case of Mountain Dew and coffee/relief at the gas stations.
For me(older) Metallica (early stuff), Rush, Zepplin and believe it not Eric Clapton "before you accuse me" get the speed guage up there.....(to ummm 55 on the Autobahn of course, LOL)

I need fast music, no rap - no country. I need fast constant with drums things along the line of Nickelback's "Animals" BAD *** SONG. Great driving song.
NONE!!!!!!!!!!!Why listen to music when you can hear the engine screaming?
Vampyrate

^how about songs where the screams sound like the engine?
anyway, falconer is another awesome band to drive to

I'm with ricerrx7, I don't like to listen to music when racing. As a matter of fact, I usually turn the stereo off and remove the faceplate so it's not illuminated, for distraction purposes. When racing, hearing your car is kind of important, for some people.
Now, on the other hand, for some really good driving music, when cruising back roads, I love to listen to anything with a good beat:
Hip-Hop
Rock
Dance
Electronica
Whatever station I'm on in XM, or whatever CD I happen to have along with me. Back when I first got my license, and my first car, 1990 Dodge Colt 2-door HB, I would listen to the Top Gun soundtrack. Gay, maybe, but at the time I had 2 12" Legacy subs in a Bandpass box, took up the whole trunk, and playing the instrumental lead in that was at the beginning of the movie made my car hum. Well, the hum certainly wasn't from the Mitsu 1.6 8-valve motor :D

^listen to rammstein or hanzel und gretyl if you want a really "dirty" sort of industrial to drive to. thats some good stuff, that and the first mudvayne release (not the re-release of their demo, but ld 50)

Hell ya Rammstein was the **** back in the day. I used to listen to them too in that old car, and some 2 Live Crew, the Banned Album. Used to piss a lot of people off in traffic listening to either one of those groups. That, and listening to Crystal Meth and Prodigy, man I miss those days, being a youngster with not a care in the world... :)

Nope, I don't have AIM, personal preference I guess. My e-mail address is under my profile, if you can, send me one or two of your favorite's. I'd like to lend an ear and check them out. Thanks in advance...

will do, ill try to send the email now
since i have so much music on my computer, i sometimes forget what i have... lol
but yeah, 2 bands come to mind for this thread: Factory 81 out of detroit, they broke up soon after they started to record their 2nd album and it was never released, good stuff though check them out if you havent heard of them
and 2nd, Dragpipe from NYC. For all those from NYC that have never heard of them, im sorry. they consider themselves as "Gasoline Rock" and its true, i cant help but floor it when i hear them (as i look back on listening to their cd when i had my 89 ford ranger and 86 acura legend). They were the first band that i knew of to have 3 guitarists (making 6 total members... and yes, long before hawthorne heights came out with their 3 guitars and only 5 band members). I miss dragpipe and wonder what happened to them, they only made 1 cd, went on tour and disappeared.

I usually put it #1 to play it and get it out of the way... and then if Mrs. Doohickie gets in the car I just go to Disc 1.
