Ok right now i'm trying to gather sum money so i can buy a isuzu rodeo. Does thing look good and they are fairly cheap and from my understanding they are Rebadge Hondas which means there is some quality in does things. The reason i want a SUV is because I live in Texas i think its something like 5/6 vehicles on the road at SUV's so.... yea i'm a conformist. Plus i dont like small cars i'm a big guy i look funny sometimes drvin a compact. Anyways anyone have any opinions on the isuzu brand or the Isuzu Rodeo? I'm planin to get a 02^.

NNNNNNOOOOOOOO!!!!! Don't do it! I used to work for Isuzu as a mechanic. Those things are full of problems. Google it, consumer reports etc before you buy one. The biggest problems they have are warped rotors multiple times, rear main seal leaks, and Hydraulic lifter failures. Most other Isuzu's are ok, but not the rodeo.

Disclaimer: This is my opinion because I have worked on a lot of these.

my mother has one with a grey leather interior (its a 99) the sad thing is that honda is discontinuing isuzu (if they haven't yet already). personally, i love the car. i try to drive it as much as possible whenever im home from college and the pickup on that v6 is amazing

I was just about to say (and saw above) that Isuzu is going to be discontinued.

Not to mention that the Isuzu is not a re-badged Honda ...

the Honda is a re-badged Isuzu. That's the wrong direction to be good.

my dad had a trooper in 1990 and ran the **** out of it until 1995... my mom has a 99 rodeo and babied the hell out of it, and still does. and yes the honda passport is the isuzu rodeo. that is because honda was loosing attention in their SUV market (if there ever was one) and decided to try that out as their own. but look what is still being made. i havent seen a passport come out in 8 or so years

Chevy Colorado / GMC Canyon is also an Isuzu-designed vehicle. I beleive it is the "B-series" truck? (not sold in U.S.)

Info on Isuzu:

They are an independent company that makes med to light trucks. GM owns 40 or so % of them.

As stated above, the Passport was a rebadged Isuzu Rodeo.

The Chevy Colorado / GMC Canyon is based on the B-series frame, but the new Isuzu trucks are rebadged Colorado and not the same as the B.

As of now Isuzu has no plans on pulling out of the US, but with the growing pressure on GM to make money, GM may sell their stake in them, which would prob be a death blow to them in America.

So if your in the market for a Colorado or Trailblazer, you could save a bit by going with Isuzu. But you're also rolling the dice that they will still be around to service your warr.

Yea ive done some reasearch most of the negative feedback deals with rodeos 2000 and older most of the positive feedback is on the 2001 and up.. Yea they dont make the rodeo anymore its all gm knock ofs now. Isuzu is a indian company that use to make accord knock offs.

Over here they're Holden Rodeo's, and pretty damn reliable from what I've heard.

But personally if I was looking for a truck in the USA, I wouldn't go past the Toyota Tundra, the Tacoma looks alright too, but I don't know anything about that.

Pretty silly reason to buy a vehicle imho.

my first car was a 1991 isuzu rodeo, it was the first year they made them. We still have it with 175k on the OD. Only problem that we had with it was the EGR was sticking and the paint horrible so we had to get it repainted. I loved it personally at the time. It had a GM v6 that was 3.1L rated at like 151hp and RWD

Personally, you couldn't GIVE me a toy. And for a truck, the Tundra is 3/4 a truck. Not quite a fullsize and sucks gas as bad as some big block chevy's!

The Rodeo, BAD IDEA! isuzu's are a pain to deal with, expensive to repair and are just not that quality of a vehicle. The engines always had lifter problems. Interiors were lousy at best. A used Rodeo will cost you in repairs what an Elantra cost to buy. Stay away. If you want a small SUV that is rugged and has real off-road potential, Go with an 01-02 Suzuki Grand Vitara. V6, full frame and actual 4WD. They are tough and hard to kill.

So is the Colorado/Canyon/B-Series... not quite a full-size truck. They guy who works next to me here has an 05 Colorado - he says it barely gets better gas milage than his Suburban did.

Yeah, but those are advertised as mid size while Toyota advertises theirs as a fullsize.

Supposedly the Tundra is getting redesigned soon and will have a 3/4 ton version available.

The Holden Rodeo posted above looks like a mix of Toyota T100, Ford Explorer and Nissan Frontier.

Suzuki Grand Vitara??? dam does things are ugly. I might actually go with a Kia SuV i saw one a while back does dont look to bad. I just want something like a toyota 4runner not to small but not to big. Something that gets at least 21mpg. I want to pay in cash so like 10k at the most.

The Holden Rodeo is a pickup truck; the Isuzu Rodeo is an SUV (i.e., full cab to the tailgate. FYI.

And I would not hesitate to look at a Grand Vitara. First of all, they are restyled as of this year and look a lot better. Second of all, I know a few owners and they don't have any problems with them. Some Suzukis in the U.S. are really rebadged Daewoos. But the SUVs are pure Japanese.

Correct. The Grand Vitara (notto be confused wit hthe Vitara, which was commonly a 2dr soft top) is a heckuva little monster, wife gets 24mpg out of it.

But hey, what do I know.

This looks cool to me, but hey to each his own.

It looks ugly to me sorry. Like i said i'm from texas most people around here drive large SUV or Pickup trucks. I want a SUV about the size of a 4runner, Rodeo or Explorer.

Yea my boss told me the same thing. What i'm leaning towards now is a 2002^ Xterra. They arnt the best looking but they are about the size i wanted and they get an average of 21 mpg. So seems good.

The old Vitara was no looker:

http://www.edmunds.com/media/reviews/top10/04.trucks.worst.residual/04.suzuki.vitara.500.jpg

But the new one is a lot better:

http://www.autosydeportes.com/novedades/salones/novedades-43/Suzuki%20Vitara.jpg

Having said that, the Elantra has the same kind of understated styling that the old Vitara has, so maybe to many of us, the old Vitara would be fine.

Mine is going to be a mall cruiser. Its more becase i like the old school thing with new school technology. I mean its RWD which i kind of wanted and good fuel economy. To me a suv that is FWD ... seems like its just a minivan wit a lift kid.

I always thought the Vitara was a dog. 2.0L 120hp doesn't really cut it anymore. But boy did they run well. A former mechanicI worked with picked one up cheap, had 155k miles on it. Saw him this morning and he said it just turned 190k.

Nissan's, never nbeen a bg fan. After the little hard body we had (94) needed 4 ECM's in 12 months, not much of a fan. Just me though.

Also remember, Japanese cars are EXPENSIVE to maintain. If you thought that Hyundai parts/labor was expensive, wait til you get one of them.

Ive never been a fan of Wranglers. Theyre too primitive and an '06 looks like an '89.

The Cherokees and Grand Cherokee's with the 4.0 I6 run forever and have decent power. The Cherokee also went 15+ years looking pretty much the same too though. I think the only difference was the back door and the grille from '86-'01(?).
