Hey all,
This may seem like a "noob" question but I'm about to renew my plates but as most Canadians/Ontarians we usually stick the plate sticker overtop of the previous year. Has anyone managed to find a way to remove that "pile" of useless stickers?

Yeah, I try to remove them so they don't pile up too much either. Rip as much as you can off by pulling at the corner. Apply Goo-Gone (or similar stuff) on the sticker for 15-30 mins. Peanut butter oddly works too. You probably won't be able to get the whole sticker off though. Rinse it off in hot hot water and remove any remaining sticker if you can. These stickers were made to never be removed by law so they will be tricky.

I try to align mine perfectly every year. One time I tried to get the top half on and noticed it wasn't straight, I tried to lift it off (it had like barely touched) and the sticker was ripped in half....I then had to try to place it on very nicely after that.

Texas started putting the registration in the windshield next to the inspection sticker... something about too many stickers stolen off license plates I think.

In Ontario we do :( So Vampy, pick the right province.

Actually, Ontario might be the only one in Canada required to have it in the front.....hmmmm, we should double check that first.....calling on Canadians.....

In New York, we have both tags, but the registration is on the windshield in the corner... So the tag never has anything on it.

^ i know, my first car was registered in va, and my explorer was registered in va when i first had it... but i knew this once place to get it inspected where the guy NEVER checked anything. it was funny cause he would just ask, "hey, do the brakes work all right?", "lights work all right?"

No inspections and no emissions standards???? WHAT THE HECK.
Here I am worried about what I plan to do to my car because it won't pass visual inspection even if it does manage to by complete chance pass the hooked up test...stupid ontario. Quebec has its own seperate immigration system as well!

I scrapped some of my licence plate trying to get those stickers off. Your best bet is to let them build up a few years then do it. Or try what Xtra has said.

Kindof offtopic, but I see so many cars driving around without the correct year sticker on it, infact, the car that parks in front of me in my underground garage only had a sticker showing Jan 02 up till a few days ago. Funny thing is he just bought the car last year. I don't know how he managed to drive around for so long without one.

for a lot of stickers I've used a hair drier and a razor blade (metal or plastic one depending on application) to remove them, this may work for the licence plate stickers as well. Use the metal razor blade for windows and metal items, use the plastic one for bumpers, quarter pannels, etc. THe heat from the hair drier loosens the adhesive enough to pull the stickers off with the blades.
