i've been keeping up with the site for a month now. finally decided to join. can't wait for the weather to warm up so i can start customizing my:

Auto Transmission (i know)
Ideas for low-cost (under $100) mods to start off with?

mmm... black!! i love black cars.
cheap mods: intake mods, interior illumination mods, billet antenna...
im not sure for the 2006... aftermarket parts are hard to come by with our xds, 2006 will be a royal pain in the *** for the first while, unless it has some components similar with the xd2 (04-05)
do a search to see what you can find as far as ideas, and use the search a lot as some members (most) get annoyed by new threads that have been covered in the past... first 06 i've seen on the site... btw WELCOME!
goodluck with your search for mods...

as far as i know the body style and everything else is the same for the 06 as the 04s and 05s. welcome please search before asking questions as alot of things have been covered and enjoy the site!

Welcome!
Yes, I also thought that the '06 had no major differences from '04 -'05.
When searching (and checking out the DIY section) you might lookup a couple of FREE mods : Throttle Body Coolant Bypass and Disconnecting the Door Chime
Cold Air Intake should come under the $100 mark and/or perhaps a second horn (the OEM is pitiful!) :D

Welcome to the site! I like to see brand new Elantra owners around, because their cars are always in good shape.

for under $100, definately go for the Ebay CAI.
Oh, and debadging before your car sees too much sun is a great idea! Otherwise, you'll have the "imprint" of the decals there for at least a few months after you take them off...

Yeah putting the headlights in the oven definately takes some balls. Get the chrome globes beforehand, it'll motivate you more.
Debadging was the first thing I did as well, the day after I got the car.
