I removed the spare tire ( want to remove cruise control And A/C) but beside racing seats i have the sedan so i think racing seats would look dumb in my car what else is there to do? Is there sound damping material behind the door panels? What about the liner under the hood? Can i take that off? Thanks

I tried to find it just now, but to no avail. There is a thread somewhere on this site where Jay tried to take 200lbs out of his car. He ended up getting rid of a lot more than that.
Yes, you can take off the underliner from the hood. You can also get rid of other things depending on where you are from and what you think you need. Lookup weight reduction and you will get a couple of answers.

Enjoy, that's probably one of the most informative threads on the subject

wow thanks guys, will my engine over heat without the hood liner? Or will the engine just sound louder. I live in upstate NY so could the cold weather cause any problems with out it?

The hood liner is there to keep the engine quieter. Your engine will not overheat if it is removed. Removing it will make your engine louder and theoretically should help with cooling (no more insulation between engine and hood means metal hood will absorb more heat from engine, and radiate it as well (I think))

Im confused....
Stage 1: 50lbs (Post 1)
Total: 50lbs
Stage 2: 70lbs (reply 5)
Total: 50+70 = 120lbs
Stage 3: 23lbs (reply 12)
Total: 50+70+23 = 143lbs... NOT 173lbs like he shows...
Unless he actually took out 53lbs for Stage 3, he did that calculation wrong and the future calculations are off by 30lbs based on that...
Stage 4: 25lbs (Reply 33)
Total: 50+70+23+25 = 168lbs... Not 198lbs
Stage 5: 75lbs (Reply 34)
Total: 50+70+23+25+75= 243lbs... Not 273lbs
Im not saying weight reduction isnt a bad thing... just to me the numbers didnt add up in Stage 3...

Thanks for all the info. I love this site!! It it a pain in the *** to remove the A/C and cruise control. ( i never use either of them). Im fairly handy under the hood, or should i leave it to the pros to do it for me . Another question is it expensive to pay some one to do this for me? sorry for all the questions, i feel like im in hyundai college.

Dont get too comfy asking everything that is off the top of your head... there is a search button for a reason... http://www.elantraxd.com/forums/announcement.php?f=5&announcementid=3
But ofcourse people will charge you for anything, unless you have friends that are mechanics.... use common sense man....

I have seen a few references to the "hood liner" (which I have removed to save weight).. When I bought the car the dealer told me that the fasteners were designed to melt if there was an engine fire allowing this cover to fall and smother the fire... anyone else heard that or does it even make sense?

This is actually true. I have a few friends at the local dealership and they said the same thing. It's also for engine noise reduction.

How much can the cruise control stuff weigh?
Weight reduction on the street seems silly. Reminds me of a doctor who spent a fortune to save 20 lbs on a fancy Corvette exhaust, but had at least that much around his middle.
But if that's yer thing...

You can save more money on gas by actually using cruise control.... well at least on the highway going at a constant speed.
