Well, I will keep it short on words but I wanted something different for my race wheels and this is what I came up with. I followed the process like anything else out would paint, wash, sand, mask, paint, etc. I used High gloss black engine enamel, red metal cast and tripple clear coate duplicolor. Well, like I said...short in word but lots of picktures!
The left wheel is the piture of the black on it and the right is what it was orignally

Hope you do the poll, not that it really matters but just curious what you all would think of what I did. Also, ignore the date on the pictures, I just did them yesturday...in case someone cared. In a couple of the pics you can see the can of paint I used. Look real close at the can and you are getting flipped off....LOL! :)
Cheers,
Jason
Ps: please give me some time and I will have the rest done and get the Falkens mounted and put on the XD2 for the best result for the look that it will have....I CANNOT WAIT!
Cheers

Great painting skills, but I will be honest. I liked it better when you painted them black and left the other park silver.

I figured most would say this, but my numbers are red and well, I think wwhen they are moving on the course it will look killer

Dahummm!!! That's pretty F-in' sweet man. Great job. I was a little concerned at first when I saw some of the black wasn't perfect, but then I kept scrolling down and saw that you painted the rest of the spokes another color, covering up the black mistakes.
Great job, man, I bet that will look killer on your ride.
BUT, YOU MUST TAKE PICS WITH THEM ON YOUR CAR.
And see if some one can film you rolling by so we can see them in motion too.
Great job...

i will defnately get some updated pics...I would not let you guy out there hanging wondering what it looks like. Well, time for bed, class in the morning!
cheers, and than you all for the awesome comments!

This is one of my favorite shots so far, the flash helped with the reflection on the metalcast red paint.

Looks awesome, I'm torn between the red and silver but either would look good on your car. Once I see them mounted I'll know for sure which I like best.
Either way the paint job itself turned out great, those are some good skills.

Yeah when my bro came back he gave me one...pretty nice light!
I put the center cap in the wheel, my wife thinks that I should leave it chrome, I was thinking of painting it the red...What is your opinions?

I am not sure, I have a solo2 meeting Sunday and I will have some of the guys tell me what they think to. I am leaning more to painting it red.

Excellant job.....!! My eyes are hurting, but great color scheme. I hope no one comes at you sideways with HID's on.....lol

i think you should keep it chrome. and I think it looks badass with red and black, and konig already has wheels that would look the same as if you kept them black and silver called konig trouble.http://www.buywheelstoday.com/images_products/L_905.jpg
your color combo is just awesome, good job!

Lets see them on the car already....!

02-17-2006, 10:57 AM
I kinda like leaving it chorme, but I can see why painting it red would be good too. I think with it chrome, the rim looks a little more 'complex'. Painting it red might start to give you too much of a DIY look on the rim.

they look good either way it just will all depend how he sets it up with the style of his car,but either way man, nice job keep up the good work

yeah, i think they are real hot, i'm anxious to see em on the car as well... what color is the car again?

I would definately put them on the car before you paint the center caps. Leave them chrome and get a feel for the look before you paint them. You did a killer job and I think it will look amazing on the car. Great work

Looks like you did a quality job, very nice. Your car is black, right? A touch of red somewhere on it (like a pin strip... I know... I know) might set it off nicely.
DAMN! That is NICE! Good job!

Looks good.. have to see pics of those on the car..... I agree with Super if the car is black.. a lil pinstrip wouldnt hurt.. just not alot... Hurry up and get them on!

I wiil have them mounted this weekend. I dinally have all the wheels painted and clearcoated. The car is silver...remember, I was the one with the 19"wheels daily driven. These 17's will be strically for racing and I wanted something to stand out from everyone else out there running through the cones. So everyone give me the rest of the week for the clearcoate to properly dry and then hopefully next week if I can put them on the car. Picture below in case people forgetwhat car I drive.
http://i5.photobucket.com/albums/y197/hyundaituner/COTM%20photos/pass-rear-view.jpg
PLEASE BARE WITH ME AND THE CLEARCOATE DRY TIME, I will get them on the car, just don't want them to get tore up in the tire mounting process. :)
Cheers,
Jason

I think that it will look awesome on the track! Thanks for the photoshop...I sure appreciate it! Now to think of maybe the pin strip idea that Super had.
Some like what the Street concetps tiburon on this link http://hyundaiusa.com/tuner/ has but maybe the red color of my wheels, maybe I don't know. Another shot of the graphics I am talking about in this picture

Those would look hot on that new burnt orange tib that they have. I would have liked it better had you left the orange part silver since you have a silverish car. Nice paint job.

Well, it has been awhile but I finally got the tires on the wheels today. As soon as I got home I put them on then took some pictures. It will take some time for some to like them on my silver car, but I love them. It is different and that is what I wanted for when I am on the course. "Eye catching"
With out further delay: "The pictures"

Well, I will later update my profile with these. I have a coilover suspesion on the way coming so this will get rid of the fender wheel gap. Looking at dropping the car around inche1/2, so these should set in there real nice.
Later!

Wow, cannot believe that after everyone wanting me to get them on the car and now that I have them on, know one responded the whole day. That is ok, maybe it is not you liking and you are lost for words to tell me how I f'up the wheels. Everyone at my work loved them and even some people from the street came up and asked me where I bought them. HAHA! Just cannot wait to get this car dropped now, talk about wheel gap, or like my friend said on our SCCA forums..."HOLLY WHEEL GAP!"
Later,

ha. i saw the picture and was like "holy wheel gap batman!" you need to do something about that like yesterday
as for the wheels, my opinion, i dont like them. i dont think they match the car and look out of place, but if you like them, thats what matters.
02xdGLS
04-01-2006, 02:45 AM
the wheels themselves look great but i'm not feeling the whole package... not that my opinion should matter but just throwing it out there. it would look impossibly neat on a red or a black xd though.

04-01-2006, 02:45 AM
I like them, but I'm kinda thinking you should paint the caps...
J-son
04-01-2006, 02:46 AM
yeah, hopefully the guy at HP forums can get them sent out next week. He had a death in his family and needed some time for some recoop...which is understandable. Sorry you don't like them, they do look better in person though.

no no no, don't be sorry at all. it's your car and as long as you like it, it's all good with me.
yea that paintjob looks awesome. i bet it does look better in person.

make sure you have at least 3-4 coats red and about 3 coats clear. and those look great man. also, be careful now with wheel cleaner chemicles (they discolored my caliper paint, red=pink)

I gotta be honest with you man, I really dont care for the colors. I think black and silver would look better and you should think about lowering the car.

04-01-2006, 10:19 AM
thanks for the head up guys. I put 3-4 coats paint and 7-8 coats clear. should hold up really weel i think. I am just going to use soap and water on the wheels, that should be enough.
SLVR2003
04-14-2006, 02:05 AM
They look great............(off the car).
On the car I don't know peronally I would have stuck with the black and silver as there really isn't a whole lot of red on your car.
If the car was red or you plan on going with a red theme later then it should be fine but as of right now it looks a little out of place.
Sorry but I really think it should be the black and silver to go with the silver car but if you like it that's all that really matters and if you start to not like it you can always repaint as it's evident you do have painting skills.

I got a chance to see these wheels when we AutoX'd last sat/sun. Let me tell you, they really DO look much better on the car in person. I didn't really like them myself from the pictures I saw but when he has the numbers on the car and the other red accent pieces that he did (H logo on the grill and steering wheel) it all pulls together nicely.
You all will just have to come visit him to understand, lmao.

Black and Silver looked better but the craftsmanship of the entire paint job is excellent for something that isn't powdercoated. Good job, but you shoulda stopped at the black for your car! Leave the caps alone!

just lower your car, if you have the money get some racing coilovers, front and rear strutbars, and a 19mm tib rear swaybar. then your rims will look nicer (i know you are thinking how willl all those not even visible parts make my rims look better) basically just lowering your car will make the rims fit alot better into the look of your car, the other parts are just for racing. yay!!!
ohhh, and don't forget to get camber bolts if you lower it
