i currently have Toyo proxes 4...now they are ok...but when new they suck because of tread swivel...and they almost feel flat....but they also did away with my tire size...215/40 R 17

anybody have any suggestions...if you put a tire up can you please put a pic of it??? thanks one of my jobs is driving ALOT...so treadwear is important as well as maximized wet traction...these are only going to be summer style tires...no snow...

i was maybe considering...
BF goodrich KDW-2 - stock on SRT-4
Nitto Neo Gen - supposed to be designed for negative camber vehicles
Falken Azenis RT 615- nuff said...but with a wear rating of 200...
Toyo Proxes T1-R

again...what do you have??? :phone:

I have falken ziex512 205/45/zr17 looking to switch to
a)bfgoodrich kdw-2 in same size or 215/40 or 215/45
b)BfGoodrich gforce sports in above sizes.... wondering if they will rub on a hatch with eibachs.....

anyone else chime in with a better rated tire than these two?

I got the bfgoodrich gforce sports V-rated 205/55/15. They are great for summer and performance, I've heard no squealing at all from them when taking sharp turns. Though I don't use them in the winter since I still have my OEM steelies and michelins for that.

The Toyo T1-R is supposed to be a very good tire. Pretty reasonable treadwear at 280. They're one of the lightest tires out there. They're very pricey though.

I'm happy with the Yokohama AVS ES100's. It's an easy tire to live with, performs pretty well, and it's cheap.

But it sounds like the new Kumho SPT has outdone Yokohama in this category...

I'll be getting Falken RT-615's next because they are the best in their class at the track.

I have a set of Falken Ziex 512"s in a 205 40R 17 on ADR 17" x 7" rims. No rubbing issues. They are pretty good in the rain. Minimal hydroplaning. Marginal in the snow. If you shop around, they probably cost $52 - $90 each. A drop job is in the future....

Car and driver did a tire test and the Toyo T1R were next to last. The F1GSD3 and Pilot sport ps2's were (of course) highest rated, but they're VERY expensive of course.

falken 512 or the Fuzion tires are pretty good for price and performance.

falken 512 make my rims look like toys compared to the 502 I also have.... see above pic... gives the look of riding on clown tires.... hate that....

Cooper Zeon ZPT. Awesome grip dry and wet. Look good so far with wear. Issues with them. They are directional and only H rated 215/40/R17 no rubbing

not saying anything about your car I have them on mine too but they just make the rim look so small ... worse on a lowered car...
I am looking into 215/45/17 size wondering if they will rub on my eibach lowered hatch....

only1db I would recommend the 615's I have quite a few friends that run them ,and absolutely love the. In their opinion for the price there is no better tire. I will be getting a set for the summer. Minnesota you would have to be suicidal to run them in the winter daily.

th003g- I had 205/40/17 Falken 512's also, and I know exactly what you are talking about. They look pretty gay on a lowered car.

That just looks funny too me. It looks even worse in person.

You didn't know tires have sexual orientation????? Thats the most important spec you should be looking for!!!

I believe he's referring to the size... 205/40-17, which is an undersized tire. It doesn't fill the wheel well like the bigger sizes.

^^ what he said. 215's fill it up real nice. 205's just look kind of dinky especially when you see it in person.

What's your offset? I'd forget about 215 unless you have +42 to +48 or you can either cut or bend that "lip" in the rear fender or roll the fender altogether

My 215/45 contipremier's have a 600 treadwear rating. They also have a 80K miles treadlife warranty and I drive them hard knowing that they will pro-rate my tread.

I really do not like the look of 205/40 on our cars. Makes the car look cheap with small radius tires.

^ really?? a local shop said that you can burn them up quick....

i now understand....i have 45mm offset and the 215 definetly fits well...i was also thinking of getting 5mm spacers to bring the wheels out a little more...

what abou the Nitto 555...nevermind...they dont make the size i was looking for

Do they stil offer the Nitto NT450? I ran them for about 35k miles. Still had 1/3 of the tread left when I sold them. Great tire, wore well and handled great.

yeah i had them in the past....not exactly a grippy tire...i had those on when the tib was totalled...i also found the to be a really "cheap" tire...not just in price

I have px4's right now and for an all season it is really a high performace tire, i will only be able to do 2 seasons with them or 30k to 35k km. If you are considering the t1-r then you probably liked your px4 to some level so go for it.

For good treadwear take a look at http://www.conti-online.com/

^ yes and no...right now with like half or more of the tread gone...they do well...but when they were new the tread pattern would move...it felt like a had a flat tire at times...and at speeds it didnt feel very stable...i'm sure it didnt help that i had the wrong pressure in them....too much pressure

I would never recommend 205/40's... like others have said they are too small for our car. At least go with 205/45 although with that size, your choices of tires are going to be pretty limited.

I think the Azenis RT615 will be too expensive of a tire to replace for someone that's going to be doing a lot of traveling for their job. To me it would just be wasted money because you wouldn't be using those tires anywhere close to its max potential.

I recently changed my tires to the Falken Ziex 512 215/45/17. A couple of years ago it was rated #1 in it's category and I wanted something easier on my pocketbook this time around, because I have a feeling my rear tires will go prematurely bald again before the fronts.

I previously had Yokohama AVS ES100 215/45/17. These are definitely stickier than the Falken Ziex 512, but then again they are more expensive, and it's rated as an UHP Summer Tire, vs the Falken's All Season High Performance. Even though both tires are the same size, the Yokohama's seem to fill out the wheel well a little better and it gave the car a sportier look in my opinion. The nice thing about the Falken's though is that so far I haven't had any rubbing issues.

I think the AVS ES100 are nice and sporty tires for their price, but as they wear out, they get extremely loud and that has probably been the main complaint from other users on tirerack.com. The ride also gets really rough and uncomfortable as they start to wear.

If I had to buy another set of tires again, I would probably pick the Falken's over the Yokohama's because they're just much more affordable. Afterall, I'm driving a Hyundai...not a Ferrari. I don't auto-x and I put a substantial amount of miles on the car, so even though it was nice having sporty summer tires on my car, at this point in my life I can't justify the cost of it. The Falken's are good enough for me.

You might also look into the Fuzion ZRi tires. It has Bridgestone technology, but marketed towards the younger, poorer, tuner crowd. They seem to be a good "bang for the buck" tires.

Well.....I'am going to change to the 215's after my (gay, clowny looking) 205's wear out. Regarding performance on the Falken Ziex's, I got no complaints. Cost-wise, also no compaints..

i had the kumho 712's and i loved them. they lasted for a long while.
now i have the nitto neo gens. i LOVE these tires. BUT!!! expect a pull to the right from the tread pattern. they are not left right specific (as in they send you 4 of the same tires and not 2 right and 2 left. asymetric if i remember correctly.
