View Full Version : How's this cheap Ebay muffler?

I'm thinkin about swapping my muffler for something with a bit more sound. But I DO NOT want the crap that I hear on some of these Civics and Integras. I don't want to sound like a dirt bike on for wheels. So I was thinkin of getting a Remus mufflere because a car that I had before had one but on by the previous owner and it was not loud at all, but it sounded really nice. Also don't care about a cat-back, because I have come to realization that my car is never gonna be fast. But I would just like enjoy a nice little growl. The only reason I am asking about this cheap muffler is because it says it has adjustable loudness. What do you guys think of it? http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/HYUNDAI-TIBURON-GT-ELANTRA-FIREBALL-MUFFLER-EXHAUST-HKS_W0QQcmdZViewItemQQcategoryZ33636QQitemZ8045366 341QQrdZ1

Also, I think I would like to cut that part of the bumper out so the muffler can look cleaner. Has anyone done this?

What are other non-extra loud recommendations?

This would be the rice you see on every civic. I would recommend a magnaflow 3 chamber muffler and tuck it up to look stock.

The ebay fart can has been talked about plenty of times.. Do a search and you will find alot of information about them.

Unfortunately, this muffler will give you a fart can sound.

Your best bet would be to go with the ones titled Apex-i N-1 Style muffler. I picked up one for my wife's car, weighed less than stock muffler (though it's still heavy) and sounds pretty deep. I have not replaced her stock piping though, so she still has the resonator and all that.

The one going on my car is 16" long (includes 4" tip) canister style, straight through with carbon fiber tip and silencer. It's very light weight, and I can also expect a throaty sound. However, I've also picked up a glass pack resonator and am currently bidding on a Key 4-2-1 header on eBay, so I will have a "farty" sound due to lack of restrictions. I expect that the system will not be like a "ricers" because I will be sticking with 2.25" piping. If you were to increase to 2.5" piping, like Civics, etc., you might get the "fart" sound. Not sure though...

I dont like the way the fart cans look, this is why I went with a dynomax 3 chamber turbo muffer. It sounds great and looks like its stock.

They did a test on speedvision a long time ago with dyno numbers on strait through mufflers. All lost HP.

If you get a ugly round or oval chrome fart can from ebay then its gonna sound like crap without the resonator. If you get a dynomax and take the resonator then it will sound great without the 2nd cat or resonator.... Ask Aaron or Scott, they heard my car at the meet a few months ago.

If its installed right then I guess it will look good, I think a fart can on a elantra looks stupid unless the bumper is cut and the muffler is tucked neat.

Was your butt-dyno SAE corrected?

Was your butt-dyno SAE corrected?
Since your PM box is full, here is a response to your PM that you sent to me..

You even said in that thread, "not much", it's going to be hard to accurately determine power levels, especially when they are slight changes. And we weren't even talking about your current setup were we? I thought you had a chambered muffler. The comment that was made was about straight through mufflers. Without dyno proof, which I'm sure speedvision had, I don't think anyone is likely to take your word over theirs...

ME..
I know my car and I know the differences in the set ups I had, im not talking about dyno PROOF im talking about just feeling the difference in general. With all the exhaust setups I had in my 01 gls and my 03 gt I feel differences when I change them.

Im more pleased with my dynomax catback setup then any other setup I have had and the fact that it looks stock, it sounds GREAT and it doesnt look like a chrome can that farts. (I have had them on my 01 with a catback)

Good day,
Rob.

Again, I wasn't saying anything negative about your setup. I'm just saying, if the show on speedvision had dyno proof, and you don't, then I'd be more willing to beleive them than you. Again, you keep bringing up your current setup that has a chambered muffler, and the comment above was about a straight through muffler, I'm not sure you're seeing the difference.

And, Personal messages are just that, personal. So unless you have specific permission from me to post something I wrote in a PM, I would prefer you didn't display it to everyone. Thank you.

I dont feel it was anything personal. I dont need permission from to post a PM on the board if the PM was sent to me. If the PM was sent to someone else and they showed me and I posted it on the board then thats a different story.

If I send you a PERSONAL message, then you need my permission to post it. If it was something for everyone to see, I would have posted it myself.

Ok what kind of set up was on the car on speedvision? Did the car have its cats and resonator? what size piping was it useing? or was the whole set up stock with just the dynomax at the end of it? This all will make the dyno results different.

Youre comparing apples to oranges. Speedvision did a test with straight through mufflers. You have an exhaust with removed cat, resonator, and a chambered muffler. But because you have a completely different setup, you're saying that speedvisions findings are incorrect. This is all I'm saying.

No what im saying is.. What car did speedvision compare the straight through muffler to the 3 chamber muffler on? and what kind of set up was the exhaust?

This all will make the dyno results vary. So you may have a straight through muffler on a elantra with stock piping and the cats and resonator may be on and it will have bad dyno results. Then you put a dynomax on a elantra with the exhaust setup I have and the dyno results may be better, thats all im saying man.

Then we're saying the same exact thing. That you'll get more power with a chambered muffler. Maybe I just misunderstood the post where it sounded like you were correcting the person that said that straight through mufflers lost power...

Oh man I read that all wrong, I thought they did a test with dynomax mufflers and straight through and the car with the dynomax lost HP.

Im sorry ricerrx7, haha
