I just got my 2005 Elantra VE used 1 year old. Decided to leave Ford (had an Escort) and thus far am not sorry. :D I was considering changing from the stock steel wheels and changing to aluminum/alloy wheels. I was looking at keeping existing stock tires (195 60R15) so here is my question. What size of rims should I be looking for. I assume it would be 15x6.5 rims then? After checking a local tire dealer, I had been checking the Konig web site and most of the 15x6.5 rims there list 50 and 55 series tires for the compatible tires and list 175 65R14 as original stock tires for the '05 Elantra. I am not into the whole performance idea, just to have good looking transportation with good gas mileage.
Does anyone know if that is accurate and if I would indeed be ok to keep existing tires with the 15x6.5" rims? Thanks in advance for any assistance.

welcome to the site number 1. and number 2. if you do get the itch for better performance mods (some of which may actually increase fuel economy if you dont start driving like a maniac) then we are here to help...
as far as a nice looking car, there are a lot of interior mods that you could do to really spice up your ride, ive done pretty much everything to the inside of my old 01 GLS save for a screen with a gaming system or computer in it.
and yes, search is your friend here, but dont be too worried about not finding what you are looking for, just remember to say that you couldnt find what you were looking for (but dont abuse this power).
remember, we are here to help and not to hurt. if you really dont see any DIYs here that you want/need to do, try heading over to www.elantraclub.com and looking at their DIY section, there are plenty of helpful people around there as well. if you need any help with anything, im sure some of the people in canda can help you, and if you arent too far from the us border, we can help you as well. if you need any inspiration for mods, feel free to check the member's rides section and pm them to see how they did something, that was/is a huge help for me.
sorry for the long response, but welcome to the site and enjoy your stay.

One more thing, since you got a 2005 Elantra which is equipped with a MAF sensor with a built in IAT sensor, DO NOT get a Cold Air Intake if you are looking for fuel economy. The IAT senses the temperature of inducted air, and since colder air has a higher concentration of oxygen, the engine is programmed to use more fuel to account for the extra oxygen intake. That is a common misconception when people get the CAI on the MAF-equppied cars expecting better gas mileage.
Oh yeah, and Welcome!

Yes, you can use 195/60/15 with 15" X 6.5" rims, just try to get ones with a 42 mm - 46 mm offset. You could get away with 38 to 40 mm, but that you would put you too close to the fender lip.
