Well Mr. Bullet, healing process of the immune system can take anywhere from 6 to 20 days in order for your body to produce the right amount of macrophages and monocytes in order to kill the intruding prokaryotes in the inside of your throat.
And I'm totally serious, btw! :) (too many microbiology classes = overkill)

Hurting? As in, burning? Any coughing or crap (pus) coming out of your throat?
It could be something related to a viral attack...

Nah none of that, just a slight pain in the back left or right when I swallow, its never both sides at once.

Allergys could explain it.
The thing that's worrying me is that your throat is getting inflamated, which means that there is always that possibility of getting an anaphylactic shock... If you have an allergy man definately go get tested at the lab to know exactly what you're alergic from.
The army is sending me to get allergy tested cause I know I'm allergic to seafood, and they think I might have somthing else too....

My girlfriend just told me this on the phone cuz I asked her what she thought..
"Rob You sleep with your mouth hanging open to the point where I could probably fit my entire leg down your throat, that's how wide open your mouth is."
Plus I snore and my allergys are bad so im guessing thats the cause.

does it have to do with swollen glands maybe?,.. can you feel a lump on the outside of your throat? i get that like once a year,... round about this time,.. all i do is put a heating pad on it for a couple of days and it seems to go away.

it very well could be something related with how you sleep and how dry the air is in the room, try a humidifier for a few nights and see if it doesnt stop

Nah my glands are fine, im pretty sure its my allergys and the fact I sleep with my mouth wide open and I snore.
Elantra_mn do you get this also? like one side hurting one day/night then the other the next?

I was told by my buddy that the air in my room may be dry because I notice I really only get this at night and by the middle of the day its gone and it will last about 3 weeks, this is the second time iv had this since last summer.

I'm a retired Navy Hospital Corpsman not a Dr. but list all your syptoms for me and I'll give you my best guess.
Also are your lymph nodes swollen, have you noticed any discoloration when you push your tounge down and look in there?

See, that's where it seems kinda weird,.. now i'm not going to say that i don't sleep with a wide open mouth lol (shut it) and i do "cut logs at night". But if it has to do with the air and humidity,... I know everyone recommends a humidifier. I hate those things since you can't actually see the water,... I recommend a vaporizer,.. i think i got mine for like $15. Humidifiers are more expensive, but they also do diff things. I guess try whatever you think is best I'm not a big timey medical doctor. I would just think that if it WAS alegies, it wouldn't go away by mid-day.
But, Let me ask you a few dumb questions,...
1. any new cologne/perfumes?
2. New air fresheners? I have that problem right now myself
3. New plants/flowers?
4. As scary/bad/whatever this sounds, mold perhaps,.... inside your walls where ever.

Ok well at first it started at night.. but now I have it in the day sometimes.. When I would swallow it would hurt on the left side of the TOP back of my throat then another day/night it would hurt on the right side.. Never both sides at once.. Thats the only syptoms, no swollen glands or anything else. Well I have been caughing up alot of flem.
Iv had this be4, last summer for example and it went away in 2 weeks.

I'm agreeing with trying to but a humidifier in your room. Put it close to the bed and keep it on all night. Do you know what the humidity level is in your room? Here the air gets dry as a bone and having a humidifier really help. Hot humidifier is better than just a cold one - and they are usually quieter. You can also get a humidifer that allows you to put meds in the front that can become airborne - i.e. Vics Vaporub (remember when we were kids, alot of parents did this - ok, maybe just mine). If it is related to snoring, you might want to attempt to wear a nose strip -opens up your breathing passages so you breathe more with your nose than your mouth.
If not, just go see a dr. I've had mild strep throat before and didn't think I did until it wouldn't go away. Dr. called me with results and I had meds the next day for it. Strep is not something to play around with.

oregun needs to chime in here
i aint a doc, but i'm studying to be a vet....could be, swollen lymph nodes...wich are producing lymphocytes like kewelkat said...could be sleep apnea..or just a plain dry throat...sometimes it could be early signs of a sinus infection, or something worse like others have said..dont take my word for it
i know a good guage of how much toxins you have in your body...look at your toungue..if you have lots of whitish looking crap near the rear of it or the whole thing you have lots of toxins building up...but if your toungue is super pink all over then you have little toxins in the body...i learned this from my chinese acupuncturist Dr Na Zhai, she was an MD for 15 years then got her phd in stroke recovery using acupuncture and has like 5 other degrees also in chinese herbology..so she knows her shizzle..shes 53 and looks 28
heres a few steps to stay healhty forever...drinks tons of h20...eat lots of fiber...take at least 3 craps a day..eat lots of vitamen c..and limit high fat/high cholesterol foods, and of course moderate exercise+ WASH YOUR HANDS
your digestive system health can effect your whole body....for example, John Wayne(spelling?) had 60 pounds of compacted feces in his intestines and died at like 40 something....Dr Zhai said the average person has 25 pounds in them..and this increased pressure in the intestines wich have lots of blood flowing to them can increase blood pressure+ lead to other more seriosue problems
this may be nasty to some, but hey we all crap right?
anyways she said your poo should not smell, and the longer it sits in your colon the more it festers and gets nastier, because all of the nutrients have already been absorbed in the small intestine, the colon just removes water
so if you take a crap and it smells like death, you have lots of toxins or other problems then you can do a few things to stop it
fiber+lots of it
dont hold it in
lots of h20
stay active so your intestines are stimulated
there are some herbs you can take but theyre hard to get a hold of so forget that
if all is going well every time you eat afew minutes later you should take a crap, that is normal and healthy...just look at cows
and you should not need vitamen supplements...you can get all the vitmanes you need in your diet
if you live a healthy lifestyle and have a positive attitude you should not need any of the worhtless drugs that so many doctors prescribe these days, that only treat the symptom and not the underlying problem like pain killers etc
this has little to do with a cold but......
the chinese have been using acupuncture and herbology for 5,000 years...so aparenlty they are doing soemthing right if its been around for that long
god made plenty of food for us so we should be able to find the right nutrients without supplements
i hope this information helps

That explains why my dog goes twice if not three times a day lol The amount we picked up in the backyard after it got a little warmer this month, we couldn't pick up the bag!
Remind me to ask you animal health things next time I need advice.....come to think of it I do right now, but I'll PM you on that! lol

well dogs crap alot becasue they are carnivores, and meat is easier do digest than plants, so they dont need a long digestive system like a horse or a cow to break down cellulose...cows have a 4-chambered stomach
ill be happy to answere any questions :D

Well I woke up this morning and my throat was better after it being sore for 2 weeks, I do believe my sleeping habits have something to do with it. I snore and I sleep with my mouth open and I have BAD allergys especially around this time of the year.
