I want to become aDJ and I was wondering if anyone could help me out. I am in the process of checking out turntables, but dont know what brands are good and what is good pricing. So if anyone knows, or is, a DJ I would really appreciate your help. This is something that I have always wanted to do. Thanx

3 of my friends in college were DJs, one quit after leaving, the other 2 do weddings on the side now. Turntables were never used... they had variable speed CD players, with 'scratch pads' on them so you could turn them just like turntables, but it was used with CDs - saving the need to go buy vinyl.
Actually, now that I think about it - another guy I knew also DJd in college, but he used a laptop computer with some neat mixing software - and that was it.

My b/f and the majority of his friends used to do it, one still does hardcore, the others only at house parties and occasional weddings. Turntables are the old school way, but the best way and from what I understand albeit the most expensive way. CD's and mixers are the way to start. It can get expensive, alot of toys necessary, but if you love it can be very very rewarding. Continue to do some research on other forums out there on the subject. It'll really help. Sorry if what I said didn't help :(

Check out Pioneer's set up. It's not vinyl, it's CD, but it has "like vinyl feel" for the pad. Also, the mixer, when tied to the two CD players, adds some really cool effects, and to be honest, for the price, is probably the best set-up out there. There are others that are better, but the price is just too good for the Pioneer...

well it all depends on how much $ u wana spend and if u wana use vinyl or cds if u go with vinyl just go with technics1200 thats what all the clubs r using and u can't go wrong with it i did try diff ones but 1200 r the stuff as for the mixer u can pic something less expensive and it will do the job numark mixers r good for the $ i got 1 and works fine if u want to go 1 step up vestax or pioneer
happy mixing:)

I was never a house DJ, just radio. But I can tell you from that experience and the bit of house-party stuff I did, the best value for equipment on the low end is Onkyo. They'll last, and when they do quit, they're cheap enough you can afford to get more. If you start there, don't go high-end until you can afford Denon equipment. Nothing beats it, no matter what any raver-skidmark tells you.
Don't worry about vinyl, it's purely a status symbol where you'll be. It's like Rolls-Royce...Pretty, but who really cares? All it shows is that you're too dumb to throw your money away on hookers. Go with CDs and MP3s, and if you really want to see a good setup, call the nearest rap-station and ask them if they'll take you on a tour of their studios. They will, and you will see everything you need.

How much is your budget and how much work do you wanna put into it?
Those are the questions u have to ask before u begin to look into buying anything...
I have tables and cd mixers, the cd mixers/computer programs are much easier to use and do most of the work for u. The tables take practice and patience, lots of patience...
I use mostly the computer programs now, but if I do a set at a club I usually take tha vinyl......
It's hard work, but that feeling u get when u see a thousand people, and there all having a good time because of u, is undescribable....

Well, I am very serious about this now. Music is a BIG part of my life and I want this to be my life. So, can anyone tell me what is the best setup to start out with (CD and MP3 wise) and what brands are the best (give me the top 5 if you dont mind). And I do wanna look into the vinyl mixers but I wont get those til later on. I just wanna have those around to practice with and get familiar with and all. Well, I look forward to your help guys. Thanx. :D
