the bassist in that video was just some guy that does side blues work for paul gilbert. the real bassist is john alderete and he doesnt use a pick like the schmuck in this video

Being a guitar player myself, I can really appreciate those videos. I agree, I think any bassist that uses a pick is just not ordinary lol. Whatever suits them I guess. The musicians that really do it for me are Dream Theater. John Petrucci on guitar is IMO in the top 3 (living) guitar players. I think him, Joe Satriani, and Steve Vai. The bassist from Dream Theater, John Myung, finger picks a 6-string like no other. And Mike Portnoy on drums....jesus...he has 3 chairs up there on stage cause he sits in different positions depending on the song.
