I wonder if you could sue whoever put that on (the state?) if it damaged your aftermarket rims?

Hehehehehe. Someone posted that a couple months back on the PSULPAC message boards. It was rather funny, since at one point they posted up the picture of the boot sitting there with no car and the word "Owned."

How do you get to the lugnuts if there is a boot on it?

^^I don't think this is possible... unless you cut the lug bolts from behind somehow, or maybe cut the axle.. hardly likely  I think these could just be setup photos.. one with the boot on the car, the next with the boot on the spare. Looks funny though :)

Holy crap that's funny! The trouble he went through to save the ticket! lol

The kid needed a buddy to pull on the boot so he could access the nuts... LMAO! Determination!

From the thread

Damn...didnt think it would turn into a 7 page thread!!!!

O.K. here's the story. Last night I was trying to sleep, just tossing and turning and couldnt stop thinking about this damn thing. "What am I going to do!?!?!" I search the net for a good couple of hours not really finding what I needed. I didnt even know what the damn thing was called so at about 1:30 a.m. I got my *** up and took a pencil and paper over there to get a better look at the damn thing and write some info down about it. (When I first discovered it on there I was so pissed I just left and didnt even inspect it) I wrote down a few things like the name of it, ect...

Then I wanted to get a good look at the rod that went through the tire. I looked at the inside of the wheel and noticed there wasnt a rod that went through at all...just a hook that grabbed the inside of the rim. SWEET!!! or so I thouhgt. I reach around and grap that big circular pad and pulled it back a bit, and it felt like it could just slip right off...no go, almost, but no matter how hard I pulled the **** it wouldnt budge!

BUT...i had an idea. I needed a buddy to help.

I could pull the pad away just far enough to get OEM lug wrench in there and unbolt the rim from the hub!!!! TAH DAH!!!!!!

threw the spare on and said PEACE BEEATCH!

I still think it's a setup.

And I think any incidental damage that results from the boot is the liability of the person who parked illegally (unless malicious intent on the part of the booter can be proved?)

Well, when I was in Calgary I interned for the cops and towers etc have to take due care in removing the car or whatever... e.g. if you have a FWD car, they can't just tow it away on your back wheels in case you have the parking brake on... they have to pop it up on the trolley...
So if they damage anything, intentional or not, it's their responsibility.
That's not to say that if you try driving away with it on a la Homer Simpson that they're to blame for any damages then... :)

im glad he got it out..i dislike tow truck drivers/booters and the retards who write parking tickets( im not referring to stolen cars)

ive always wanted to get back at those people, because sometimes people come on unfortunate circumstances or just dont know..we are not all trying to beat the system

i saw something on tlc about booters in london. the booters would wait near a parking lot, wait for anyone to pull in, and as soon as they got back out the boot was on thier tire. the guy would be waiting right there, and they had to pay the 200 dollar fee or whatever to get it off

Ok, But here's my question.... if you look at the tire, it looks pretty damn new? how much are tires anyway? wouldn't it have been cheaper to pay the ticket? maybe i'm wrong. I do think it's great that it happened though.

well he said he lived close and was not gonna drive the car anymore. he thought he owed a rediculous amount in fees. if that was the case then yes a 50$ rim and a 80$ tire would have been worth it. it basically seemed that he did not have the money at the time.
