A friend of mine just bought a 1999 nissan altima about three months ago.
A gasket blew and damaged headers, or something like that, I dont know much about it. But the shop just called and they said gaskets are not specifically under warrenty.
The total is 1800 or 1900+ to fix and he just bought it, does this not seem right? Or does he just have the worst luck?

Ok did he buy the car from the shop? if not then they have no right saying warrenty wont cover it. He needs to go where he bought the car and see what they say. unless he bought it from a private seller.

A. It's a 99....
B. A lot of places used cars are sold as is. Unless he canprove they KNEW it was going to go and didn't tell him. He's ****ed....

C. The morale of this story, buy Hyundai. New or Used.

Head gaskets on that gen altimas are common. I'm guessing he bought anaftermarket warranty? Unless he paid for the Gaske & seal package, than no it won't be covered. Plain and simple, put a junkyard engine in it and sell that mutha fast.

unless those gaskets are covered in the aftermarket warrenty, yeah he is sol. This is why you should always have a machanic check out any used car before you buy it. Dealership probably knew the head gasket was bad, but they changed the oil, plugs, anit-freeze, got new caps, and cleaned the engine up.

^ yup they would do something like that just to get the car sold and its one less problem for the dealership now. Bottom line dealership always trying to make the extra buck off of someone if your not careful... its sucks that people can be that cold that they would smile as you drive away in a car that you think is in pretty good shape and a good deal

If the car drove just fine, then the dealership probably had no idea. They aren't going to go on a goose chase looking for something that isn't affecting anything at the moment.

Bingo, plus it's been 3 MONTHS! If your friend hadda done his homework he woulda found out that that gen altimas were notorious for having bad heads/gaskets. THat to me is the bigger crime.

Note to all, do your homework before you buy anything.
