It looks 100 times better looking then it did b4 you dropped it.
How does it ride with the KYB's? I heard they dont hold up to well with a 2 inch drop.

I have Springtechs and I was thinking of doing KYB since my stock struts are about shot I think. KYB, despite all of the negative talk about this particular combination, are the only struts I can afford, and are prolly to be had cheaper on ebay than the stock struts would be thru the dealer. I have 205/40 on 17" rims, and with the stock struts I had about an inch of wheel gap, which was awsome compared to the 4" stock gap. You virtually have no gap, and that makes me a little cautios however. If I had to guess I would say you are riding on 215/45, which if you haven't driven on a bumpy road yet than I think you're going to be upset lol. Either that or the KYBs just lower the car even more.

I have no gap and I have springtechs with stock struts on my GT wheels.

I have no gap and I have springtechs with stock struts on my GT wheels.Well that makes sense to me. It is my understanding that the stock struts will not be as stiff as the aftermarket ones that are available, hence they will be prone to the car sagging a little bit more (on both ends). Combine that with the stock GT wheels (and I assume tires), which have a profile of 60 I think, and that's why you have no gap.
EDIT: For example, I have less gap with my stock 15" steelies and tires than I do with my 17" rims and 40 profile tires
Sorry for going off-topic

nice drop, sharp car!
those tires don't look like 215/45.. i may be wrong. they look more like 205/40 or 205/45

Yeah, the rubber is 205/45/17. So that may be why I have next to no gap compared to a 205/40/17.
I have been debating the clear sides for over a year now. I am not sure how they will look with the tan paint. I may just spend the $25 and try them. I may upgrade the rear sway bar before I do that though! Does the upgraded rear sway bar reduce body roll on turns much better?
As for the ride, I love the way it rides. It's not too stiff, but yet, not too bouncy. It's nearly just right. I am just glad the oil pan is steel and not aluminum.
EDIT: For example, I have less gap with my stock 15" steelies and tires than I do with my 17" rims and 40 profile tires
That's because the overall rolling diameter of a 205/40/17 is smaller than a 195/60/15. So in reality, you shrunk your wheel size even though the rim is bigger. That's why you have more gap with the 17's. The 205/45/17 is pretty much identical in size to the stock rolling diameter which is why I went with that size. Compare tire sizes here: http://www.miata.net/garage/tirecalc.html

My stock struts are VERY stiff.

Struts have nothing to do with how high the car sits. The struts make the springs resistant to compression/decompression and have no ability to support the wieght of the car. The same springs will drop identical with an OEM strut, or a KYB.

Here is an example on how struts DO affect the hight, here is Ericbecks car with springtechs with stock struts and then with tibby struts.

Tibby struts are different. They are not as tall as Elantra struts, which is why there is a difference. When you have OEM or KYB strut made for the Elantra, they are the same height from upper and lower pearch - which is what is different with the tibby struts.
Trust me, with the weight of the car on them, any of these struts will compress - they're not going to hold up the car (that's the springs job). The struts just keep the springs from moving too quickly and giving the car a 'bobble-head' effect.
Q. Shocks / Struts will hold up my vehicle or change it's height....
A. Shocks (or Struts) do not really hold up a vehicle. For example, if you ever took shocks off your pickup-truck or RWD car before, you know when you set it down off the jack, it sits pretty much the same as it did before you took the shock off. What "holds" the vehicle up is the coil springs, leaf springs, or in some cases, a torsion bar.
There are shocks which can help, or add additional support, such as Monroe Load-levelers or Monroe Air-shocks. But no shock (outside of some kind of racing unit) is really designed to support a 3000-5000 lb. vehicle. There is a limit to how much a shock can help (for instance, just changing shocks on a half-ton pickup truck will not automatically make it a one-ton model.)
(On strut installations, it is important you get the springs seated correctly, or that can effect installation, and may effect height. Follow your repair manual's instructions carefully, every vehicle is different).

Exactly, which is also why you can compress an uninstalled strut with your bare hands but you cannot do the same with a spring.

Sweet, thanks! I like that! So I guess I'll add that to the list. ;)
now all you need are the shorttie antenna...
By the way, how does this mod affect the radio reception, if at all?
np on the chops :)
if you get the ARK antenna, you will lose a lot of reception. basically if you're trying to listen to something in the garage.. listen to a CD because you'll never catch the radio lol. outside, while driving.. it'll still have static-y sounds in it, and if you get close to powerlines.. well.. better have a CD handy :P

if you listen to a lot of cds or to an mp3 player, it doesnt matter... if you listen to the radio a lot, youre screwed
