I have two 12" JL Audio W3v2 and a 500/1 JL Audio amp.. Inside the car it sounds crystal clear.. I did have to add some screws to the area behind the seats where the 6x9s are to stop it from bouncing up and hitting the rear window.. Outside is another story... It seems to be the trunk hitting the bumper.. I redrilled the latch and moved it down so the trunk would have a really tight fit and still hear a loud rattle.. If you slide 2 fingers between the trunk and the bumper it stops 80% of the rattle.. Yet I cant find a way to make it stop without sliding my fingers between them.. Any ideas?? I dont have dynomat but I doubt adding that will help much.. The Mazda3 the trunk has hydraulic arms that hook to the trunk and make it open slowly.. It stops the trunk from rattling since its just not sitting there free.. Anyone know of something like that for the elantra? I havent seen it or even seen someone do a mod that would do that..

i have hydraulic arms on my hatchback, and the thing vibrates like madness

i think its coming from the trunk trim where the H logo is.

I dynomatted the whole trunk lid of my trunk and under the parcel shelf and the outside still rattles like crazy as well. I have also moddified the latch to try and get it to stop. I have 3 JL 10w0 and a JL 500/1 amp as well. I am not really sure what to tell ya on the rest as I am at the same spot as you. Although a pic of how you screwed the parcel shelf would be great because mine rattles really bad as well.

lol, i've also dynomatted my trunk, i even dynomatted my licence plate lol. Still vibrates rediculously. I did notice that the ENTIRE trunk lid vibrates as if it's trying to seperate itself from the rest of the car lol.

simple explaination is that there is too much pressure in the trunk to stop the rattle easily.

The best (not the cheapest) way to fix this problem is to add a linear accuator to the trunk so that it opens and closes the trunk lid. Tis will cause the trunk lid to close more securely and eliminate most of your rattle.

not that it's a permanent solution or anything, but folding down the backseat(s) does wonders. less pressure (and rattling) in the trunk, more pressure in the cabin of the car.

Folding down the seats does nothing to stop the trunk rattle,BUT does wonders for how much of a difference in the bass.I have tried everything to stop the rattle dynamat, expansion foam, sound deading spray, ect. I figure if I cant hear it who cares. But it did sound like **** from the outside.

The hatch of my GT 5 Dr. has expansion foam in the rear panel on the tailgate, dynamat on the license plate, neoprene around the plastic hatch cover where it meets the sides and the decklid. I also made sure to tighten down the jack and the spare tire as much as possible.

Overall it is not bad, but not 100% rattle free.

I'd think it'd be pretty hard to eliminate 100% of the rattle, but it sure would be nice...

dynomatting will solve nothing, the problem is the latch itself. its not holding tight enough and causing free play in the trunk lid. have you ever just leaned on your trunk and felt it close slightly tighter? thats why. one way is to get a spoiler or way the trunk down more somehow. another way to solve this, is dynomat the latch or add padding to it so it isnt metal to metal contact and forms a tighter seal. or just add rubber all around it so it doesnt contact metal to metal. just my .02

I agree with the above post.

The license plate rattle drove me nuts as well.

The Dynamat license plate kit (which I paid 10 bucks for at a custom shop) surprisingly worked wonders to get rid of that plate noise.

I suspect it will also stop the paint rubbing that had occured due to vibration...

My 05' GT hatchback has a rattling problem as well. I did put sound dedning matterial but it still rattled. I took off the interior panels of the trunk and I noticed that the locking mechanism is the one that rattles.

I was able to stop the raddling by dampening a spring or link in the mechanism but I can't remember exactly what it was. It's been a while since I've tried it.

I was thinking of a permanent solution for stopping the raddling but I realized I would have to buy a new locking mechanism that was better designed or I I could try to put some foam but that was going to render my remote useless in opening the trunck.

Has anyone else looked at the locking mechanism from inside the car under the panels?

I was planning on putting some of those latches that tighten down on the inside of my trunk to get it to close extremely tight. And so no one can pop it.

Like these latches http://www.cardomain.com/member_pages/show_image.pl?bg=FFFFFF&image=http://memimage.cardomain.net/member_images/2/web/218000-218999/218234_2_full.jpg

I was also considering getting some bigger weather stipping around the trunk too.

My rattling problem I found is not the trunk, but actually my spoiler...cause if I hold that down, it stops the rattling, holding everything else does nothing.

A good cure would be to get the Dynamat kit that you can cut yourself.

Cut two strips slightly smaller than the mounting surfaces for your spoiler, drill the mounting holes in the Dynamat, and then reattach your spoiler....should solve the problem...

i have an 01 gls sedan and i fixed my trunk rattle. i used some of this yellow foam i have and i put it in like a liner over the rubber seal on my trunk. now the trunk closes really tight and i have minimal rattle.

all 3 of the plastic nuts that hold the spoiler on (hatchback, not sure if the sedan is different) broke in my car. i just used some regular nuts and washers and now it's much better.

If your music is so loud that your trunk is rattling, you're going to be spending a lot of money fighting the onset of deafness and/or tinnitus in ten to twenty years.

When my OEM/Clarion CD player is set to 15 with the stock speakers on my 01 GLS, I can hear it really well above the road noise when I'm going 75-80 down I-83 in PA. If I turn it higher than that, it certainly gets louder, but it's getting into ear-damaging territory.

One compromise I found was to roll down the windows and turn it to 20, and put earplugs in. It was kind of like going to an outdoor concert. Everything was loud enough, but my ears weren't hurting.

I realize this doesn't solve your trunk rattling problem, but it's something to think about. If you really want to hear music in high fidelity, get a pair of sennheiser headphones. If you have to feel your bass... get earplugs.

I don't think hes worried about the rattle bothering the sound quality inside the cabin. Usually when the trunk rattles you can only hear it from the outsdide, if the music is turned up loud enough to rattle you wont hear the rattle over the music in the cabin. At least thats what used to happen in my car before i fixed the rattles. I have the sedan though.

I am fan of Dyamat, although it is butt expensive!!

Therefore, before I even Dnamatted the whole freakin' trunk, the first thing I did was to remove the license plate and put some foam weatherstrip behind where the plate goes. Ya can't see it, it eliminates the "metal against metal" and it made a HUGE difference.

Total cost = 34 cents, 5 minutes, and one cold beer.

done.

Well,

I removed my plates and it still rattled. Has to do with where the vibration is being absorbed. If I press my five fingers on the back side of the trunk the rattle goes away. I might try to get some Resisto at Rona (roofing material) $26 for 15Mx23CM roll. Sticky on one side, red plasting bag on the other. Just bought mine today. I will post an update this weekend when I apply it. I didn't notice any heavy smell with it. Hopfully this will work cuz the rattling is bad and I feel stupid when people look at me. :abovelol: :abovelol: :abovelol:

I used some yellow foam that you're supposed to use under floors (i think, i found a dumpster full of it and just g'd it) and i put around the seam of my trunk when it closes. You have to close the trunk lid hard but it closes firm and doesn't rattle too much. Did the same thing with my liscense plate.

I had 4 12s...
(key word HAD...ar got broken into in the middle of broad daylight in the campus parking lot. I hate Miami)

anyways, I had a ton of rattle too...

I took a piece of black foam, about 4"x4"x18"...I could squish it from 4" to about 1.5" with my fingers, so not super stiff, but not easily flattened to nothing.

Cut a 3" slit through the center of it legnthwise and slid it over the trunk latch on the trunk itself. Took a few good slams to get the trunk to close shut BUT it did eliminate 85% of the rattle.

The only rattle left came slightly from my plate (which was a dull rattle because it was dynamatted) and the other rattles came from underneath the rear of the car and it wasnt loud so i didnt want to get into finding out what it was.

Now i have no rattles because all I have is 2 little 10s on a measly 200 watt amp. (It was free)
Few months I am getting a 15" Kicker L7 and a Kicker 1500rms amp. So im sure that will give me some rattle back.

I have 2 10" JL Audio W3 subs and my trunk rattles pretty bad. I added the oem spoiler on my car and I don't really think that helped my rattling much. I'd get Dynamat but it's way too expensive so I don't really worry about it. To me it's all about how it sounds on the inside, not the outside...
