me and sean got it in today. holy ****, had i known it was that easy (never messed w/ belts before) i woulda done it myself last week. toooooo easy. pulls NICE. anyone whos been to seans house will understand when i say i was able to hit 61mph up the hill to his road...and i was stopped at the light @ the bottom, so i didnt come in w/ any speed...and i still had plenty of room plus some extra to stop. its a little wet out here...i hope it drys up tomorrow so i can have some fun and see what itll do

on a scale of 1-10 what would you rate the difficulty Evan? What tools were required?

There are 2 DIY's here

Evan, was it just the crank pully you installed or pump/steer/crank?

The crank pulley was my first mod and besides cams, gave me the most noticeable gains, this is a must do for everyone. Congrats Evan, enjoy the new setup!

i would love to do this but im worried about the harmonic vibrations that it causes on the crankshaft (i am going turbo or else i would do it)

Its been in my car for 4 years now without a problem, had one in my 90 Jetta for 6 years without trouble also

99.9% of the engine vibration damping in our engines is soaked up by the flywheel and the counter-shaft in the engine... the crank pully has little to no damping effect, at least on this engine. If there was an excess of vibrations it would get picked up immidiatly by the knock sensor and throw a CEL... and I havn't gotten a cel or heard of anyone else getting one from this mod.

^^^^even with a turbo this wouldnt complicate things? I've never heard from anyone having problems with these, but by the same token, there is no one(that i've heard of) that has pullies in conjunction with turbo

the harmonic vibrations is something that is more prone to happen in v8 engines. ive checked with a few people and with the i4, like stated, the flywheel makes up for a lot of it.

difficulty, i couldve done it alone in 1.5 hours. me and sean took about an hour...maybe less. tools needed are a impact gun, 23 (i think) socket, metric sockets for the tensioner pulley...2x4 to tap the pulley on. a torch and grease to get the pulley on...

scale of 1-10, a 4.
