What led you to purchase an Elantra?

Because I worked at the Hyundai dealership, I saw on a daily basis that the Elantra's were more reliable and less troublesome than any other car Hyundai made at the time. Wifey had talked me outta my 00 GMC Sonoma Sportside with 17" Boyds wheels (True Boyds, not the later B Coddington crap) and said we needed something more "practical". Price was right, had what we needed/wanted. Was missing all the things I deemed unneeded/unreliable. Things like the Auto, ABS/TCS and sunroof.

Been happy since we bought another truck. Now I have the best of both worlds. Truck for play, fun car for day to day.

I couldn't afford a Chevy Silverado or Impala, so I went to the Hyundai dealership and priced a Tib, then got told 13k or less is what your approved for - thus my Brand New 05 Tidal Wave GLS for 12,999 out the door and the dealership paid my first months insurance.... I think I got a good deal.

my dad.
first, he told me that we need to show some respect to our country so we went to Hyundai...
then he was thinkin about getting an Accent for me (since it was the cheapest), but he wanted my car to have all the safety options on it such as ABS
then, we were told from the dealer that there's 0 accents that was imported here with ABS and all
Also, there was whole trike going on in Korea so it'd take at least 3 months to get it ordered and ship here... so we were kinda backing away
THEN, fortunately for me, the dealer showed me this Elantra GT model with all the options my dad wanted and the car totally got me!
since that Elantra used to be a demo car, they got us real good deal now its all mine :)

Several websites, in fact. I don't think this was one, though, since I joined the day after I got my car. The turning point was when a guy called Backy at the Edmunds Forums (http://www.edmunds.com/insideline/do/ForumsLanding) suggested I take another look at the Elantra after I first decided against it. There was also the Drivers & Believers Forum (http://egt.gwebworks.com/index.shtml) and ElantraClub (http://www.elantraclub.com/forum/). It was one of the members of the Drivers & Believers mail list, BNystrom (http://www.elantraxd.com/forums/member.php?u=86), that clued me in about EXD.

Same here but the choice was something we happen to come across. They gave us our price range for what they could do on new models but my wife happened to point out in the corner our little red beem of light. Been joyous ever since.

My first elantra, my dad got for me, and I almost killed him in the dealer's parking lot, so I just used a whole aresenal of mind bullets until I got home. Then I found EXD and EC and it was all downhill from there. With my current elantra, I swore on both my testicles that I would never drive another non-elantra as long as I live. So far, I'm holding true to that.

What led you to purchase an Elantra?

What led me?

The drunk driver that ran the red light and totalled my Accent.

Well that and the desire to have something with a little more power.

What led me to get the Accent?

Price, and I always joked about getting one, turns out they were nicer than I had thought and there you have it.

My mini van was totaled, kids were grown & I wanted a practical car for me. I really like the hatch, you can pack so much into it. Minivan > Elantra, a natural progression :D

well, i was in the military....in the TAP breifing (transition assistance program), when i saw this KNOCKOUT woman with a blue WRX, so i asked her where she got it, and followed he rto the dealership (she was picking up a MOMO knob and pedals), then i saw the price on a WRX...so they had an 05 tidal wave tibby GT in the showroom, after some test drives and a little paperwork i was out of my 19.6% intrest rate in my 01 frontier, and in a Mazda tribute demo car...so after the paperwork came back, i didnt have the extra grand to put down, so they tried again with an 06 tibby GS in electric red, but that would have been an extra 500 down, so i asked about an elantra GT, and since im not a fan of red cars...or automatics, i ended up with my GLS just the way i want it....(minus cruise control)

i went to saskatoon, 1 1/2 hours from here to buy a car cause i was mad at my junkie old truck... figured i would get a cheap rio or accent.... drove the rio and then went to hyundai... i saw the elantra there and i was in love....but it was priced a little high for my budget so i drove an accent. then i found out can;t tow anything with an accent, so then they let me drive my elantra... and i was in love even more... but still a little high... so then i drove about 2 or three other base model elantra's but none compared with the GT Hatch i got.... so we dickered on prices for a few hours...i even wore out my salesman and he put me in the office with the general manager to work on a price... i was there from 9am till 6pm driving cars and working on prices.... finally we came to a price i was happy with and one he was happy with and away i went in my new gt... man i was excited....and like i say it was all on a spur of the moment thing... i just woke up and said i want a new car so i went and got one....

Glad i did it then too cause now with a family everything has to be talked about before any major purchases, no more i feel like a new car today days... but oh well... and thats my story.....

It was because of EXD, that I chose the elantra.

I sold my commodore, because it was costing me a lot in fuel, and it had 100,000km on the clock so I needed to get rid of it before it depreciated too much.

Seinster

You can get any car shipped over, I've never seen a race-set up on an XR-8 except on the telly though.
The cost of an AU Falcon XR8 in stock form would be around the 20000 mark, and you'd have to allow around 3K USD for shipping/processing costs. Not to mention you might have trouble getting it registered when it gets there. :)
In short, not worth it!

It's never been my primary car. I can honestly say that I bought it because I liked the way it looked. There is something about the front of an 03 that snarls........with an attitude.

As I've said before here, it reminds me of a shark right before he makes his lunge, twists, and rolls his eyes into the back of his head and takes a deadly bite of his prey.

I told the guy to find me an 03' GLS (I hate leather seats) in midnight grey with a sunroof and all the options. He found one at another dealer.......and I bought it on the spot. No car in history this affordable has ever come with so much.........for so little. I love this car..and I'll keep it forever.

^LOL dude.

I was looking to get a ConsumerReports recommended used car. It came down to the Elantra, 02 Tib, Integra, or ZX2. When I did some looking, I could only find the Elantra and the ZX2 for under $6K with less than 40K miles. I chose the XD, as the ZX2 was too ugly.

Well I went to the dealer with a wad of cash and told him i would take the first 10 cars he brought to me. sadly he counted the cash and figured out it was only enough for a down payment on an elantra.

Actually, if you wait until the car is 25 years old it's not too bad. But newer cars have to be brought up to NHTSA crash ratings, the glass and headlights/tailights have to be DOT, the emissions has to pass federal standards.

To prove crashworthiness you have to prepare 2 vehicles to be crashed for testing, so plan on shipping 3 cars over. Total cost, expect it to be close to 500-750k.

My 89 Colt had seen much better days, and I was sick of the nickel and dime crap I was putting into it. That being said, I didn't have a lot of money. I figured on getting an Accent like my sister, as hers had held up really well, even if it is an ugly car. As it turned out, for a little more than an Accent-with-everything, I could get a base-model Elantra with even more.

It's mostly Vsolo's fault though. I was looking to get a used Civic or something similar at the time. Glad I got a new car instead.

I had to buy a car in basically a week, I had just totalled an 01 Ford Focus EX [or whatever the base model was] and man was I happy to get rid of that piece of crap. I looked around at the Elantra, the Sentra and a few other used VW's but while I loved a VW I inheriated from my family I knew the repair prices were high. When I went to see the Sentra at a Nissan dealer in Fairfax the guy was a total sleezeball salesman, kept trying to get me to sign for it today etc.

I obiviously passed on the car and went down the road to the Fairfax Hyundai shop, asked to see the internet guy who had quoted me an 03 at $8k. He showed me the different models and asked what I wanted. I said silver with 5speed, he goes "Ok" and then goes to find some keys. Then he just threw 'em at me and said, have fun bring it back when you're done. Whereas the Nissan guy wanted to go with me and tried to talk crap the entire time. I took it out around traffic and loved the way it felt, instantly knew I wanted it and a day later it was mine.

Don't regret it one bit, I just wish there were some better Hyundai dealerships here in the Ft.Lauderdale area. I miss the one I went to when I lived in Denver.

Well, at the time, I was driving a 1990 Toyota Camry with almost 226k on the clock. Earlier in the day I took the car in for a checkup, and had a laundry list of things to fix. Would have been at least $3000. My mechanic even told me that I'd be better off getting something new as opposed to fixing it up.

So I head to the dealership. I meant to hit the Toyota dealership, but I drove past it and ended up at the Dodge dealership. I saw the Elantra and that it was priced at $11,725, and didn't figure that was too bad. So I took a test drive, and liked it. Financing was somewhat of a snag, so they lowered the price to ~$11,625 so I could get it. And I'm a happy camper since.

Cause some moron in a minivan ran me off the road and I barrel rolled my 2002 Accent L 3x across a 4 lane interstate. I supposedly "upgraded" to the Elantra...and I am really missing my Accent at this point. The Accent's build quality is far superior to this car. My 2004 has broken down on me once (clutch interlock...warranty repair,) the steering wheel has cracks all over it, and it rattles like a mother****er. The Accent NEVER rattled even once and started right up with no CEL after the accident, and I beat the living hell out of it, I actually take care of this car. I don't know if my car was built at 4:55 on a Friday or what, but I am not happy with it. Next car...Sonata or Azera.

I put "friend", but it was really my brother-in-law who pointed me in the direction of the elantra. I was driving a 93 geo prizm at the time and i wanted something quicker. I didnt know much about cars and saw that there were some 03 v6 tibs 5spd. for sale, and i've been in love with the tib for years now. when i went to the dealership the salesman told me i was better off with an elantra (since i had a kid on the way and everything) and he also told me my insurance would not be very favorable either and talked me out of the tib too......at the time i thought a car was as fast as the speedometer said it would go ( :hand: ) so i compared the 110 that the geo went to the 140 on the elantra.....................STUPID mistake lol. went to the dealership and fell in love with the gt, but all they had were auto gt's and my corsica was my only first and last automatic so i was not having that and i ended up taking home the most basic model gls they had (as long as it was 5spd i didnt care.....at the moment). I am happy with it, and modding has been rewarding.

Now it's time for the turbo  . I dont know how much longer i can wait for it to ship lol

I bought mine because of the badge, yes don't spit your drink, it's the main reason i bought a Hyundai.

I bought an Elantra because I wanted a car that could be practical in everyway...fun, reliable, good on fuel, heaps of cargo space, abilty to tow and just use it everyday and I enjoy every minute i spend in my Elantra. I'm very happy with my purchase.

I picked "Other".

I got an Elantra because my Accent got rear-ended last month and the insurance company declared it a total loss. I really liked my little Accent, but felt the car was too small. I was definitely leaning towards Hyundai because I enjoyed my Accent and my mother has enjoyed her current Sonata and her previous Sonata. I liked the look of the hatchback Elantras and the features of the GTs in general so I bought a used 2005 Elantra GT hatchback last Saturday. So far, I am really loving my new car!

I visited every car lot in the area, and in the end narrowed it down to a leftover 00 Protege, Focus ZX3, and the XD... the mazda was still too expensive, teh ford salesman was an ***, and I liked the XD better than the ZX3 anyway...

5 year and 126k later and I'm still happy with it, but i'll probably be trading it in on another new car (still TBD) later this year when it's payed off...

There's some pretty ****ty women drivers on the roads.
That being said, the male hooligans are even more dangerous.
It's a lose-lose situation.
Could you be any happier with it though? That's the question.

I just wanted a black car with a spoiler as far as my first car went. I didnt really care what it was as long as it was black with a NORMAL sized spoiler. I wouldnt of minded a sunroof or leather but we all make exceptions and when i found my elantra. I love it and decided i wanted it the day i looked at it.

Compared to the civics (other than the SI),neon,, and a few others the xd has better torque and hp , even though the xd weighs a little more.Plus the great warranty and ok gas milage I couldnt say no. My blazer is a ****ing gas hog if I didnt live in NY I would sell it but come winter time I love that truck.

I buy my cars new and keep them for seven or eight years. My previous car was eight years old and I was shopping around for a replacement. The Elantra seemed to be the right size, price and performance for what I wanted. Some favourable on-line Road Tests from US sites plus the five year warranty swung it in the Elantra's favour. I purchased one of the first Australian XDs.

I have been impressed by it, apart from some reliability problems. It performs well, handles well, and is smooth and quiet and very comfortable on long drives. It is also quite economical. I am more impressed with it at the moment after a long drive on some lovely roads with lots of fast sweeping curves last Sunday. The Elantra was really in its element.

Purchased new in late 2000, I will be looking to replace it the year after next. Maybe with a new-model Elantra. If they could tighten the handling a little, and build the car with more consistent reliability, I wouldn't hesitate. As it stands, I expect the next Elantra will be good enough for the price to be the most likely choice in any case.

The striking new design of the XD lead me to purchase my first Elantra in '01. The '01 GLS's reliability and value lead me to purchase my '06 GT. I'm sticking with a good thing.
