I think they hard wired my CD player when I had it installed... If I want to replace the unit is this going to be a PITA? ANyone know how to fix it?

I bought a Dual Brand CD Player... POS.
So I want to go to a JVC KD-G320

on alot if not all newer CD players, they all use the same plug for all the wires, you should check that though before rewiring everything...but JVC is a good brand, mine sounds great and has for the past 3 years

My Dual one has the control in front of the display. But, the controls won't move so I cannot see the display OR play CDs.

?? i was talking on the rear of the cd player, where the wires go into it, it should be a black plug thats about 3/4 of an inch tall, by about an inch and 1/4 wide...

explain what you call "hard wired"?, did you have a shop install the radio? if it was done the right way the factory plug will still be there and an wiring harness adaptor should be plugged into it. the wiring adaptor will have color coded wires{possibly even labeled} whigh will match up with just about any aftermarket stereo. However if the shop/person cut the factory harness plug off of the wires then it will be harder. you will have to use a volt meter/ohm meter to figure out which wires are power/ ground/illumination and which are speaker leads.

I recently got a Sony CDX-GT200 (http://www.crutchfield.com/S-zx7uiEqVyRj/cgi-bin/ProdView.asp?g=300&I=158GT200) for my XD. It comes with the wiring harness and is dead-simple to install. Simply match up the corresponding wires for their harness and then plug that thing into the stock plug and away you go.

The only minor gripe I have with the GT200 is that I can't put the filler around the headunit so there's a minor gap but it doesn't look that bad or out of place in the dash.

That happens with every aftermarket headunit unless you get the adapter from the 04 GT with the stock kenwood. Do a search and you will find details.

Ha! I better get this done before the 800 mile drive up there! I'll go crazy without a working CD/Radio!

But we'll see... Thanks for the offer!

I know. I was just stating the reason for the replacement... I may take it off tomorrow during lunch to see what it looks like. And take a pic,

From what they told me, there was no adapter for the car at the time but I am thinking they told me otherwise afterwards.... I'll have to check the paper work.

like someone else said, this is common with the XD. bad design.

anyway, I am very particular and couldn't live with that gap. so what I did was wrap a small piece of dark grey foam weatherstrip around three sides of the head unit. this acts as a "filler" and once the dash panel is installed, it looks factory.

I also used this technique to fill a few small gaps around my aftermarket tweeters which are surface mounted to the factory contoured tweeter location.

inexpensive, easy, and looks good.

I have an 06 hatch. This past weekend I put in a panasonic headunit and some subs. Had to go to circuit city and get 19.94$ adapter. I put the sleeve that came with the headunit on, placed the trey in above the a/c controls and then slowly but surely slid the unit back. I couldn't stand having a gap and it not being flush so we worked on it for a bit getting it flush and then badabing badaboom it fit perfect. It sets in perfect and doesnt budge an itch. But I'll say this much...WHAT A BICH IT WAS!!

Save some money, buy that Headunit here:
http://www.etronics.com/product.asp?stk_code=jvckdg320 - ~$30 cheaper than crutchfield.

I put a $400 JVC headunit in my Elantra when I bought it in 2002 (KD LH-1000), and absolutely love it. It's discontinued now and there have been many upgrades since then, but I still stand behind JVC electronics, for home or car.

Thanks for the tip. But not driving to NY now so **** it. You know... marriage is a pain in the ***.

I'll keep that site in mind. Originally I needed a local place. But after I took it all apart last night, no problem I'll install myself.

You don't need to drive to new york, you can order it online, then install it yourself.

here ya go....

I am not finished with the head unit foam trim, as you will notice, it is not completely symetrical and the top left corner isn't as filled in as the top right. Plus, I need to cut another longer piece cuz it's longer on the right than the left. Anyway, if you stretch it tight on the top and sides, then leave it slack on the corners it will "fill" the corner in nicely.

I also attached a pic of the tweeter mount. The foam isn't prominent in the pic, and that's the point. But it does fill in the slight gap left where the door's contour doesn't match the flat tweeter mount.

and the install looks better sitting in the car, not on a digi close-up

Thanks. I'll tell ya what man....I F'ed around for a long time and IF smooth looks are what you are after (at least on an 01 GLS), flush mounting the aftermarket tweeter and using the stock tweeter grill is the way to go.

BUT, since I used the factory 6 3/4" door grilles, and you can't see my amps, subs, and rear mids from the cabin, I needed SOMETHING cool to show for the money I blew :D
