if youre going for power, dont get ssautochrome/obx (sorry clarion)...if youre looking for headers to say "hey, I have headers!" then get obx. power, get hotshot, key (doubtful youll find them, but theyre the best available) or even the kspec GT header is a good one

I would pick the HotShots headers because they've been in the business for awhile. I guess lately they've been having some issues with counterfeits or copycats from SSAutochrome and OBX, but I think they could have handled it in a more professional manner.

not a problem evan...the headers did give me more power tho, my mid to top end was greatly improved, my and a buddy raced before, we where dead even, after the headers i took him easily, it "felt" like alt least 15 more hp
what ever you get try to get it powder/ceramic coated

your a$$ dyno needs recalibrated
if those felt like 15hp, your turbo will be adding about 650. those headers will show about 4-5, 6hp MAX

my a$$ dyno been acting up lately
but the hp increase for the headers is noticable

yeah, but not 15hp noticable. lol
With my ssa header, low end felt like I lost a little bit of torque due to the 4-1 design.Im not gonna complain though, heaps better than the stock manifold.

hey clarion i will buy the header from you if you still want to sell it. will it fit a 2003 elantra, and does it give you a cell or did you weld some o2 sensor holes.

I've got the shark racing 4-1 header and i think its great. never got it dyno'd but it sure as hell made a big differance. and if your worried about cel's the shark racing comes too short to hook up to your catback so ya gotta cut yer stock pipin and put in the stock cat or put in a high flow unit. either way it works great.

I know hot shot gives you all the proper gaskets and o2 wires. They are the best quality

I have had the Evo Fusion 4-2-1 for almost three years now. Got it from Shark Racing. I have ben very happy with the results overall, excellent top end power and no real loss of low end that I have ever noticed. You will probably get CEL from time to time with almost all the headers currently on the market. My car seems totally unaffected by being driven daily with the light on so I don't even notice it anymore, always seems to be the same code: mixture too lean.

:D What? A guy can't disappear from the boards for nearly a year and then come back like he was never gone? My work schedule pretty much sucks ***, between that and my daughter I don't get to go out and play much anymore, sad to say. I have been terrorizing the back roads of Jefferson Co. WV though. If you ever feel like your car is underpowered or doesn't handle that well just come out my way and pass a few idiots trying to drive BMW's up Rt 9 or around Summit Point Motorsports Park.

if that is the case, would these still pass emmisions in the state of VA since you can still hook up a cat to them?

you can hook up a cat to any system. with a hotshot, the stock 2nd cat remains in the same location as stock.
but removing any emissions equipment (IE stock exhaust manifold with cat in it) will cause you to automatically fail (or at least, you're supposed to, not necessarily the case). the hotshot is nice because you dont have to cut anything, meaning that when inspection time comes, if you're worried you can just swap it out for the stock manifold

what about the ones 05tidalwave posted up?
Jonny666
04-25-2006, 10:52 AM
the header that 05tidalwave posted is prettywell the same setup as the shark racing units. you have to cut your stock system right in front of the cat and then weld in a flang to meet up with the header. as for being emissions friendly. I dont even think we have emissions laws AT ALL here in canada so im not super worried about that. If your super loud the cops here will hurass you and may give you a ticket but that's bout it. they're more worried about what percent your tinting is and why you were traveling 5km/hr over the posted speed limit. i hate cops. either way if you are worried about emissions you may want to put in a header with the stock cat like the shark racing setup and get her tested. then we will all know for sure.

The problem isn't emissions levels. The levels if I used no cat would probably STILL be legal out of this car. The main issue is the VA-type laws where 2 cats stock, means you better have 2 at inspection time. Its ****ing bull****. If I go straight pipes, and I have lower emissions than a stock mustang -then let me go...

ok my question then is which headers will bolt staright up to my 06 with no cutting just direct bolt on to the catback exhaust from say evofusion ....just want one that everything bolts up...im tired.
tharptroy
04-25-2006, 03:42 PM
the hotshot will bolt to the stock mid pipe, the stock mid-pipe will bolt to the cat-back.
but the evo fusion header also comes with a mid-pipe (no cat) so if you get that, you'll need to cut it, weld in a cat, put an O2 sensor bung in and extend the sensor wire.

Then go out and buy 2 magnaflow cat's in the 2 1/4 size. they're a slip fit for 2 1/4 tubing. now hog em out and slide em over your exhaust piping without cutting the piping. now its strait piped and it looks like you have cat's

ok as long as the hotshot headers work ill be using them...could i get the link so i make sure i get the right ones
Does anybody here was able to get a cel-free exhaust system involving headers?
I already have a full custom catback with the second cat replaced by a high flow one but if i add headers i don't want that cel issue.
I heard that even if people relocated the two o2 sensors, most of them still had cels, so is there anybody here that doesn't have that kind of problem, and if so, please explain that set-up (pictures would be great too).

how much and would it fit my 06?
Jonny666
04-26-2006, 11:01 AM
I've got a cell free system with an aftermarket magnaflow cat. I belive the secret to success is you have to relocate both O2 sensors. BUT YOU DONT CUT THE PRIMARY O2 SENSOR WIRES!! I've got about 20-30 k on my current setup and i've had 1 cel. reset the ecu and it went away and never came back.

here's the thread (http://www.elantraxd.com/forums/showthread.php?t=15409)
unfortunately, it doesnt bolt directly up to the stock exhaust for 04-06.
you'll have to get the flange cut and rewelded down a little farther back and under the car. take a look at this pic, you cant just drop the header in and bolt it up, that pipelooking up at you is what needs to be modified. once the 02 sensor is relocated you will have no CEL.........unless theres something different about your 06 i dont know about lol

that is correct...the hotshots bolt up to a 01-03 xd...but the xd2 needs to be cut and welded...and the second o2 sensor needs to be moved behind the second cat...and you will have no cel regardless of which header it is.

in md all you need is to have no cels and have a cataytic converter and you will pass no problem.

so basically there is no header which is a direct bolt on for the 04-06?
