how much is the p/p going to run you? ive been thinking of this as well, but the fact that im not confident enough to try to reinstall a head on my own, so i would be paying a shop to basically change the head gasket and just put the new head on instead of the old one.

Have you checked OEM? I don't remember them being that much personally.

yeah...OEM cant be much more, and with something like that, id rather spend the few extra dollars and get the OEM part and not something from autozone...
how much is the p/p running you????:D

its not that its hard, its that its not easy. its not something i want to take a chance of messing something up. if it goes to a shop and doesnt start, they fix it.

dont the head studs have to get replaced also, i remember reading it in one of mahonroy's posts. and isnt removing the head a pain just because of having to remember everything you unplug/disconnected and putting them back together? I see it as being more of a tedious job rather than difficult

yes head studs are a one time item. they'll need to be replaced. its not hard to remember/figure out where all the sensors go.

head is alumium and the block is iron
Ive done a few head jobs and the Elantra not that hard. The worst one I did was on a 91 Mazda 626. That one took me 3 days

I sincerely hope that the beer will be consumed AFTER the P&P. I wouldn't want a drunk buddy grinding away at my aluminum head.
