and hopefully for the last time

im sure you've seen about my problems with maaco...a lot of problems. i dealt with the same shop about 6-7 times, and they still couldnt get it right. i called corporate, and they sent me to a shop about 20-30 min away...took it there in nov/early dec and the guy told me to get it clean one day and mark off all the problems with this grease pencil. go figure the weekend after that i put the car in a ditch and it just keeps snowing. so i get the accident parts replaced a couple months ago. take it up to the second shop last night and talk to the guy. go over a lot of the problem spots (dirt under paint, paint chipping off, etc etc). he tells me he doesnt have a problem getting it back in, but its going to be a couple weeks and hes going to need it for 7-10 days.   ...so im thinking 'he better be repainting the whole car if he needs it that long' which is when he says 'what ill probably end up doing is repainting the whole car.'

he said the hood, bumper, and fender will need repainting (paint chipping off), as well as the trunk lid will need repainting from drips/ridges in the paint below the garnish around the license plate. he said the spoiler will also come off and need to be repainted (because the last shop didnt take it off and the underside is like a flat black finish)...also going to get all the dirt out from under the paint which he said he's probably going to sand the whole car down and repaint it.

heres just a few problems i pointed out to him last night

dirt under the paint on almost every panel
paint chipping off-
- hood
- fender
- bumper
drip marks on bumper, trunk lid
ridges in paint (where it looks like it was sanded down and painted w/o smoothing it out) around door handles, trunk lid
drip mark under pass side rear view mirror

As you've learned already, I will say for others' knowledge: Don't ever go to Maaco.

Glad you're finally getting some resolution out of this.

I feel for ya, i took my 91 Izuzu rodeo to get a complete paint job and they had to do it like 4 times before i just got sick and tired and accepted the huge amount of orange peal

Go for a custom color dude!

You could have the first and only gunmetal elantra!

keyan, sometimes i think you type before you think

fixed under warranty does not = new paint color

maybe youre not familiar with repainting a whole car. its not just the exterior. you have to get the door jams, under trunk lid, under hood, engine bay, etc, etc. im not going with a outside custom color and engine bay black *cough* *cough* lol.

why not? lol thats what im gonna do with my sol, all the jambs are grabber blue, but the engine compartment will get sprayed black, and the trunk will get the trunk coating/bedliner in black...its a "classic" look

Well honestly over on newtib, there was a kid who got a warrenty paint job through hyundai due to peeling paint and his tib is now gunmetal.

It's just an idea

well...i went up there today to check everything out.

good - they repainted the whole car, base coat/clear coat, wetsand/buff. looks better. the 2 doors/fender i replaced from the accident were bought with a few scuff marks and not matching black/black 100%, is all gone, looks better. paint chip off on the hood, gone. most of the dirt under the paint, gone

not so good - still saw a few dirt spots under paint. the spoiler was not taken off to paint the under side, so it still a matte finish. not noticeable to 95% of people, but i know about it. guy said that because of the double sided sticky tape that goes between the spoiler/trunk, it wouldnt come apart, and that he broke a putty knife trying to get it apart. i was upset that there was still dirt under the paint, but theres not A LOT of it. not nearly as much as before. the ridges in the paint are gone, spot on hood is fixed, front bumper looks good...i took the fog covers out before i took it caus i knew they wouldnt.

they said it will be done tomorrow, they were just finishing it up and putting some protectant or wax or something on it. they said if i wanted them to get the few spots of dirt out, they would need it til monday afternoon...which means with my work schedule, i wouldnt be able to get it til tuesday morning. i told them to just try to get the 2 big spots of dirt i found out as good as they could by tomorrow. ill have my car back by 1pm.

i would have left it there longer until it is done 100% to my satisfaction, but w/ my brothers car being totalled and me, him, my dad all trying to use the 1 car, it was difficult. ill just have to live with it. it does look a lot better now though
