Good day all!
I want to tell you thing that you should know, and be strong!
Our elantraclub.ru member has bought an Elantra 2001 from America!
All was OK before the hood opened while he driving! It has happend on a speed of 180 km/h or 112 mile/h! It's not the first accident like this! We decided to instal the second additional electromechanik lock for our saftey! I'll do it too! In Moscow it cost 150 - 200$ + installation 100$
think about it!
Sorry for bad English! Your Konstantin! With care!
See attachments - result of accident!

I don't know what I would do if my hood unlatched while I was driving, especially if I was driving that fast.

yeah, next time youre on a road going about 80, watch the hood along the side where it meets the body and you may be able to see it bounce up and down. it happened in my sedan, and with my GT

Yeah, I've seen that as well! Freaked me out the first time, and I'm a little nervous each time since then. I just keep hoping that there's nothing wrong.
What could I do about it to make it hold tighter and stronger?

It's the FIRST WARRING - I have the same now after the 110 km/h
So, now I see only to ways to make it safty -additional lock and going to dealers an ask them to make it by warranty! What do you think?
Vampyrate
04-22-2006, 12:58 PM
yeah, i have no clue how to fix it... maybe replace the hood latch?

I mean, we could always use hood pins and drill some nice holes through our hood, but that would be a little too :smileyr: for me
and if this is a problem with these cars...why isn't there a tsb or a recall on them?!

I never seen anything like that on my Elantra been drivng it about 200km/h (about 120mph top speed before remap) for 2hours constatly and never seen or heard of any strange sound from the car...
oh yaeh dont know about hoods of benzin models but on CRDi (dizel) model the hood weigths really much it isnt easy to lift at all...
btw same thing like kokits happend to me and friend on škoda favorit (kokit will know what that is i think) on 100kmh....
not a plesant feeling

I've noticed the problem a few times... Maybe Hood pins?
Maybe, but I don't think so, I think it's hood's bracket - cause it stay in the lock, and the hood opens and the hood bracket stay in lock. Look at picture I market it (hood bracked by the red color) - I think to install additional brackets!
at 60 or so my hood starts flapping 1-2 inches it latches fine and everything it just has give to it for some reason i dunno what todo, before I sell the car I Was gonna bring it in for warrenty and tell them

Reminds me of tommy boy when Farley forgot to latch the hood when he added oil.

wasn't it that he left the oil canister in the opening? great movie, or at least was before TBS played it 15 weekends in a row!

How did you realize it? If you installed an additional hood bracket(s) - you are safe, if you have only standart brackets, see last picture again!

Where did you put it? Please make a pics (if it possible), I still don't understand - how you realize it - you put it like this - from hood brackets to radiator support? Right?

so it's the hood bracket itself that failed?
Vampyrate
04-22-2006, 07:04 PM
that would seem like the only thing that would cause our hoods to rattle at those speeds, that or the latch itself

and I've def. had my car a little past 130...

you sure? you get a new set of gears and a new ECU to allow that to happen?
Vampyrate
04-22-2006, 08:39 PM
the most that ive ever been is around 110-115 and that was a one time deal
evan938
04-22-2006, 08:41 PM
112 here...looking at some stuff, with a final gear ratio of 3.650, and max RPM at 6400, max speed the car is geared for is 126.xx
Vampyrate
04-22-2006, 08:43 PM
but yeah, evan, have you ever seen a "bouncing hood"? this is somethign that worries me a bitt
evan938
04-22-2006, 08:48 PM
only when i popped it to work on it later and didnt get to working on it and start driving. even then, when it was popped, but not, it didnt come up.
best way to do it is drop the hoodfrom about 8" up, and make sure it shuts by pulling up on it a bit. it shouldnt move. if it does, i believe there should be a bolt you can loosen to move the hook up/down to adjust it

When I had my stock hood on I noticed the same thing and now tht I have a CF hood it does it even more.
I think I'm just asking for it I need to get off my *** and install those hood pins I bought over a year ago.

yeah, i noticed that without pins my del sol's cf hood likes to shimmy and bounce...and with locks, the fiberglass hood on my stang stayed on VERY tight...but this is the first time ive heard of a stock hood bouncin like that...definately check the latches for proper adjustment like evan said...and slvr, definately get the pins on...you wont be sorry :) IMO on some cars, pins give a littl eadded appearance +'s
