My friend is sponsered and ive been talking to him about possibly talking to some of his companies who's sponsered him about molding a carbon fiber trunk for the 04-05 hyundai elantra. Is anyone interested in the idea? or :thumbsdow

agree with evan. a lot of interest but $$$ comes down to the decision. I know I would love a carbon trunk and hood, but not willing to shell out the cash at the moment.

I'd be interested, it all depends on how much the price ends up at.

We also need a carbon fiber hood made for the 04-06 models....but like everyone has said lets see the price for the items...after shipping...and then you can get a general idea of what people will think.

The price of getting a C/F trunk will be expensive!!! first the theres the fact that many won't sell, second.. companies rather put that C/F toward other cars or at least a hood... third it won't shave off that many pounds (and would be mostly for looks)... and theres not even a hood for the XD2.... it would look horrible if you only had a C/F trunk without a matching C/F hood....

ILL see wat i can do with the company about a possible a hood and trunk deal. Cause you all are true a hood should be out first. I thought carbonman(compact divisions) was making one that would be instock by the 28th of April?
CTele02
04-25-2006, 05:52 PM
but remember youd want the two companies to be using the same kind of C/F since the design threading might look alittle different..... so it would prolly be best if it was done through one company.
Hyper_knight
04-25-2006, 05:54 PM
Can you match threads?

$600+ for a carbon fiber trunk i asked about it a while ago.
SilverElantra
04-25-2006, 07:03 PM
i looked and couldnt find it...ive seen that page before and couldnt find it....600 plus is way too much...i think ill just wait for the hood....there is no reason for the trunk to cost that much....not only is it not that big but the lines of the trunk are simple....so im not gonna be getting the trunk unless they bring the price to around 400-500 shipped

i guess cuz the trunk isn't a single solid piece like the hood is.

IF and thats a HUGE IF, you find a company that is willing to utilize that much material for a *stress* limited aftermarket component for $400-$500 **SHIPPED** by all means go right ahead.
Considering that a single yard of CF is about $60USD plus 3-4 layers of fiberglass backing, plus the frame on the reverse side plus time and other materials like resins.
All I can say is GOOD LUCK
I've explained a little bit in the other thread but getting the most widely used 2x2 standard CF is going to be damn near impossible in the coming 6 months.
SilverElantra
04-25-2006, 10:39 PM
ya there is a major shortage of cf right now so all the cf prices have shot through the roof...almost doubling...evofusion had that problem with the cf hoods for the accent...i know cause i was one of the few to get one.
Yea,it wouldn't be so bad if they weren't using the stuff to make full body kits for Supra's and Lexus's.I still want a HOOD!!!!!!!
Evo style!!
Screw the trunklid

Idk all i know is i brought it up to my friend who is sponsered and he talked to the ppl because i work on my car at his house ( has a big car driveway lol) and they said its a defent possibility to make a limited supply of trunks because i told him about elantra xd and the lack of carbon fiber products. So im just crossing my fingers for everyones sake cause we need some products even witht he shortage. You know share the wealth lol.

I have an 01 with the factory spoiler on with no torsion bars to see how much it ways. The trunk even with torsion bars weighs the same if not more than the hood. That is if you have the spoiler.

I'm with you on this one, seems to be all talk. As in talk I mean, its something that is a good idea but not likely to happen. I think the way you posted it initially was that it was likely to happen but reality needs to set in first and CM came in on the thread and posted the reality of things here. This will most likely NOT happen but I'm sure others thank you for trying.
As for me, I just want a damn xd2 cf hood.

well i dont know about elantra owners but i know tib owners are starting to move forward, i remember chris from flyryde wanted to make things here for us but we kinda pushed him away, i myself wanted the support but the majority was against him and look what he is doing for the tib guys now check this carbon fiber hatch that he got made.
http://www.newtiburon.com/forums/showthread.php?t=48767&page=34&pp=25
so if any blame, it should be us that we dont have the parts we want, there are people that make them like carbonman but they wont pay the price to get it going.

Problem is the money... and the fact that many of us have alot of other things we wanna do to our cars than C/F... but whats easier about doing it for the Tib is:
1) It is a sports coupe and more directly toward tuners
2) ALL 03+ Tibs as of now have the same hatch style---
ALL 01-03 Elantra and ALL 04-06 Elantra have different hood
01-03 Sedans and 04-06 Sedans have different TRUNKS
I'm not sure about the Elantra Hatches but from the "looks" it seems that 01-06 hatches are identical.
3) Tibs have 100times more aftermarket than Elantras...
4) Most of us bought the Elantra because we are cheap (cmon don't lie everyone, cost is a key reason you buy a Hyundai) And since C/F is in high demand and suppliers love that, they aren't making as much as they COULD to keep that price high.
We don't push people away from making things for our cars, we just give them the facts of what we want and how much we want to spend and we don't want to waste their time and hate us when only 3 people fork over the money....
But realistically it would be better to put out a C/F Hatch that could be used over 6yrs (if im right about the identical hatches) than a trunk only for 3... (eventhough in my opinion C/F trunk would look much better.)
Side note on the Tib C/F Hatches with Glass: They say they are about 110lbs lighter (140stock to 30C/F) which is like wow... anyone have an idea of what the stock hatches on an Elantra weigh? Perhaps we could guestimate what it would with C/F. Cuz from the Tib was a 78% weight reduction...

I might come down. WHen is it? Im new to the site. And your right The C/F trunk is an idea that by the way the companies were talking they made it seem like that if the demand was high enough then they could produce it atleast for awhile until the demand drops low enough that it would be pointless to make them anymore.

You know I'm good for it. So whenever anybody with cash wants something, you can find me. I wont beg for support, but I'll come through for those who want what they want.
One thing has changed since last time I offered my company services. I dont dream to make money down the road these days. If the 3 or 4 parts cant make enough profit off the bat, then no deal. But I can do FRP in as large a quantity or small as needed, for cheap like normal. Same mold for CF parts, so for you guys who just want the weight reduction, we plan to sell about 10 times the amount of FRP hatches for the Tiburon than CF. We can offer the same deal here. Make anything worth my involvment, and you have a deal. I understand the Elantra market very well. The fact is, its too much of a loss to the customer to shell out tons of cash, and its border line impossible for the business to make a profit at all, let alone a good one. Meaning nothing gets made, and nothing gets purchased. It makes perfect sense. But with the help of a good crowd we can work around these obstacles and do more sales like the GB for Eibach Products right now. FlyRyde is taking the very very top most layer of profit, enough that we can offer you the best prices on the net for this buy.
Same goes for anything you want made, but I'd suggest lower end prices on moderate quality parts. There's no way in hell anyone would ever make a full CF body kit with wrapped edges. It'd cost enough for 1 person, that 5 of you couldn't afford it together. So work with us on parts that make sense all around, as I actually see a good balance there since my roots are with Hyundai. I know how to make it worth everyones while. PMs are always nice ;)

standard cf product are too over rated now anyways...is there any possibility you can get different colored cf options for the parts we want or just the standard black and silver?
FlyRyde
05-13-2006, 12:49 AM
I'll never really offer CF parts for the Elantra except hoods. No options, no BS, just a part you can buy, or pass up if it cost too much. Its just going to make my life harder to provide too many options. Its up to you guys what you get done not me. I just dont want to screw around, whenever there's enough demand for a part it'll be made, and I'll happily sell it.
