Cleaning up my engine compartment

What do you guys do to clean your engine compartments? I was thinking that degreasing the engine compartment but last time it still wasn't as clean as I wanted it to be afterward. I am thinking that after I degrease it I will hit the whole thing with soap and water on a sponge and make sure it gets real clean this time. I am also thinking about replacing a lot of the rusty bolts with new onew, maybe even stainless steel if I can get some around here. What do you guys use to really get the engine bay clean?

Evan, I followed your instructions and my engine came out pretty good for never being detailed in 5 years. I think I will do it one more time this summer after all my mods are done and I replace all of the rusty bolts.

that soft bristle brush really helps get some of the stuck on stuff off. if you want to get really detailed, a wire brush in some of the tight places like the PS pump bracket and top of the IM below the injectors
