Howdey,

daniel here...newbee to Hyundai and elantras...have basic knowledge and countless patience (was a VW owner for YEARS...that WILL teach a man patience).

Just traded in a 99Passat glx w/ 200k miles for an '05 Elantra.

One quick newbe question...and before ya'll get grouchy, YES i have searched  I'm new to Elantra's, not the internet or life in general.

The '03 19mm rear stabalizer bar from a Tib...Is that the stock bar for a tib and what parts should i replace with it...my XD has 30K miles. I wanna stay as stock as possible but get a tighter "feel". OK two questions. Is there a write-up on removing a stock single Din cd/radio? I have a new head unit i wanna slip in....

Peace and thanks for the help,

daniel

Welcome and here are the answers to your questions:
1) The 19mm bar is stock on SOME tibs. Hyundai uses a paint marking on the bar to show it's size. There are two colors. Yellow and Green. You want the green one (I think)

2) Look for Dash Fascia removal. Ummm...Basically to get to the head unit you unscrew the 2 screws above the gauge cluster, adnt eh 2 behind the ash tray and you can pull the dash off, so you can swap units.

Welcome :)

Check out the "do it yourself" link at the top of the screen. Here is the dash removal instructions for the XD, the XD2 is similar:

http://www.elantraxd.com/DIY/dashremoval.php

You don't need to cut up your dash.

I wrote up a pretty complete discussion of the sway bar issue for our local site, DFWHyundais.com (http://www.dfwhyundais.com/component/option,com_wrapper/Itemid,32/). From that link, click on "Elantra/Spectra Rear Sway Bar Upgrade". It talks about all the options, part numbers, colors, etc.

The color of the bar is fairly important in that I've found the color to be a better indication of the bar diameter than the part number on the warehouse tag.

DIY for fascia removal (http://www.elantraxd.com/DIY/dashremoval.php)

I posted this to another forum, but I can't remember if I posted it here:

The stock stereo is a single DIN unit; the faceplate is a little different than aftermarket face plates (more info below). There is a storage bin beneath it; if you remove the bin you can fit a double DIN unit. Since the chassis is a standard DIN size, no installation kit is required for physical fit. You will need the adapter harness, though.

The opening in the dash fascia may be too small to include the bezel that comes with an aftermarket unit, but large enough to leave a gap around the detachable faceplate. There are several options here:

1. If you don't worry about the untrimmed area, it will look like this:

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v728/jrod13/caraudio005.jpg

2. Trim out the unfinished area. I had some foam tape that was about 1/16" thick which I put on the perimeter of the head unit *before* putting the fascia and faceplate on. The foam was pressed under the fascia out the outer edge and when I put the head unit face on, it compressed the foam slightly on the inner perimeter. When I had it this way, it looked like the following picture. Other things besides foam could be used including electrical tape, black construction paper or cardboard.

3. Buy the 00271-84004 OEM unit. My Pioneer unit fit perfectly except that there are small tabs that stick out of the unit (I think for security purposes) that I bent over... then it fit perfectly. It looks like this:

http://webpages.charter.net/doohickie/Click_On_Index/photos/Elantra/HeadUnit.jpg

4. There is a more affordable OEM option that trims out the area but omits the door- it's part number 00273-83000. The doorless kit looks like this when it's installed:

http://i19.photobucket.com/albums/b174/CyberGecco/misc/elantra002Small.jpg

You have to remove the entire dash fascia to replace the stereo, but it's really quite simple:

1. Remove the two screws in the bezel above the instrument cluster, and the two screws visible when the ash tray is removed.

2. Move the gear shifter toward the back away from the fascia. Starting from the bottom of the fascia at the ash tray, pull fascia away, working your way around from the bottom, up, then to the left.

3. Disconnect the connectors for the ash tray light and cigarette lighter at the bottom, the Air Bag light, flasher switch, and clock at the top left, and the panel lights dimmer (and ABS/TCS if equipped) on the right.

4. Once the fascia is off, you will see three screws on either side of the head unit/storage bin assembly. Remove these six screws and the head unit and bin can be pulled out as one piece. If you are reinstallinig a single DIN unit, use the existing brackets to mount it to the bin. If a double DIN, use the existing brackets but leave the bin off.

Installation is reverse of removal.

Note: This post was largely copied from a post I made to ElantraClub.com in this (http://www.elantraclub.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=6582) thread.
