Third brake light mod in the DIY section

I am thinking about doing this to my Elantra. I am thinking about making a vinyl decal and then painting the rest of the lens black. Does anyone know if there are laws against modding the third brake light lens like that?

I believe that NY is the only state with laws against doing that. Apparently, so I've been reading, you are allowed to modify it as long as it turns it into an outline of a mountain lion, but if it's words like "ElantraXD" for instance, it can be a thousand dollar fine.

Yeah I was afraid of that, I have already been pulled over too many times for tint and loud stereo systems so I don't need another excuse for the police to pull me over.

I doubt that it's illegal, but if nobody on here knows, just call up your local popo station. Respecting authority and being in good books is, against popular belief, a good thing. Just call them up and ask them whether it would be illegal.

I would not doubt for one second that it is illegal here in NY to mess with the third brake light on my car.

What if you have 4 brake lights? I have the window light unplugged because i have a wing led brake light. Think that's good?
