What does everyone have in their front doors? I was looking at the Infinity Kappa 6.5's and the Alpine type R 6.5's. I'm going to have Type R 6X9's powered in the back by an amp without a sub. What would you guys recommend for the front?

i had alpine type s all around in my old 01 sedan and those were amazing... type rs are great, and even better if you amp them

I can get a 2 channel amp from a friend for relatively cheap. Do you think it would pay off to just amp the back two and power the fronts from the HU? Or should I only amp them if I'm going to use a 4 channel?
Also, will I get enough bass from the 6X9's? I don't really listen to rap, so I figure I will. BTW man, you've been real helpful. Thanks alot.

alpine type R's are awesome, was going to put those in but ended up getting a/d/ds 6.5 components (which are amazing too)
Highly recommend powering both front and rear speakers. At first I just used the HU, but after I got an amp, they sound a whole lot better.

According to Crutchfield, I can't put the 6.5 Type R's in the front doors. I'm sure it wouldn't be to hard to make a template for them to fit in, but I started looking at other speakers as well.
I like the Infinity Reference 6.5" alot. It fits the Elantra without any modification and is supposed to be a very good speaker. Will the Type R's in the back overpower it? I hear that they aren't great witg bass, which is not a bad thing for front speakers IMO. What do you guys think?

If I were you (anyone correct me on this if I am wrong), if I could only amplify one set of speakers, they would be the front ones. This is where you would see the most benefits.
However, if the 2 channel amp you could get can hold 2 ohm loads, you could probably amplify your 4 speakers (connecting the front right/rear right and front left/rear left together). As long as each speaker has a 4 ohm load (which Alpine has), you should not run into any problems.
As to the front Type R speakers, I believe it is stated that they do not fit because the magnet in the rear is too big, but, members on this board managed to get Type X's (which have a bigger magnet) to fit in the front doors so, I believe it is possible.
If I am wrong, I am sure the audio gurus will bring their invaluable knowledge to this thread! :D

Does anyone here have the Type R installed up front? I figured it was just that the hole was larger than the speaker. Depth would be a problem.
The easiest option would be to get the Infinity Reference, but would the sound quality suffer?

I installed the Polk Audio 6.5 components in my front doors, along with a set of Polk 6x9's in the rear deck. I wasn't expecting much, but I am happily surprised!
I've tried different power combinations using a Fosgate 75 watt 2 channel amp, and 50 watt 4 channel amp. These speakers sound awesome! mid bass is impresive. I also dnyamatted the doors which made a big difference.
As someone already stated, your front and rear speakers can be ran paralell on a 2 channel amp which is 2 ohm stable. However, using a 4 channel amp will give you front to rear fading ability.
Run this set up for a while, then add subs down the road. You will more than likely find yourself adding more and more....this stuff gets addicting!

I got Cadence 6.5 comps with 1inch tweeters. I got the alluminum drive ones and they sound good as hell. I got em powered by a Profile 600w 2 ch amp running 150w rms to each component.

You can either mod the stock basket to fit the components or just buy a spacer like 1/4" or 1/2". Then shave the door panel speaker panel (there is like a little piece of plastic around the edge of speaker cover). With my a/d/s I modded the stock basket and it worked fine. (I thought it was easier so it screws back on the doors perfectly).
A Dremel comes is a must doing this.

So the best option would be to go with speakers that actually fit, like the 6.75 Infinity Reference? I don't feel like doing to much modding. Anyone use those speakers?
Also, is taking the door panel off a pain in the ***. I know how to do it, but how are those clips? The clips on my old Mustang used to snap when I removed them.

My 6.5's fit in pretty snug, i think the elantras are made to accomodate 6.5" in the doors.
The door panels are super easy to remove. I'd have to say the screws are what holds it on firmly, the clips just kind of help you get it aligned correctly.

my fuses are all good, my lights used to dim but i got a cap for real cheap and it fixes that problem well. my amps get pretty warm i will admit and sometimes go into protect mode, im looking into putting some fans in my trunk pretty soon. other then that its all good and it sounds nice as hell.

type R's. amp em. or they're weak as hell. :o
The problem with type r speakers or anything much deeper then 2.5" is the doors only have 2.5" of clearance. If you make spacers, the front of the speaker will make contact with the door panel. This causes crappy sound and the door panel to vibrate. The only person I remember with Alpine type Rs in the door of an Elantra cut a hole in the door panel so they would fit with a spacer.
Also, Alpine recommends using an amp with the type R series components for best sound.

I'd use an amp for any decent set of components.

agreed. I just don't see the benefit without the addition of the extra power.

most comoponent speakers cannot draw enough power through the HU to actually sound like they were designed to. so amping is always a plus for every speaker in a car... especially components

im in the process of deciding which amp to buy. i have type R's. but they're mad weak. worthless w/o amp. boooo.
