finally. went last week and dropped off my application and some of the other things they needed (application fee payment, check stub). got a call yesterday saying that i did get 'approved' or whatever...they're letting me move in.

went and turned in my deposit yesterday...its good/bad at the same time...when i think 'deposit', i think of money ill get back later. well, its an 87$ non-refundable deposit. so im glad its low but im not too upset i wont get 87$ back in 6 months.

i have to go back towards the end of the month like a week before i move in to sign the lease papers. move in date is june 1st

good things i was able to get with this appartment
- 2 bedroom 981 sq/ft appartment 2 full baths
- 87$ deposit
- 10$/mo pet rent (150$ non-refundable deposit)
- rent 575/mo (555/mo rent, 10$ cat, 10$ to be on 6 month lease)
- only utility to pay is electric/cable/internet
- no gas utilities (whew)
- 2nd floor unit
- outside porch 6x12
- my own door (not one of those appartments w/ one main door and individual appartments down a hall)
- 4-5 miles from work (about a 20 min drive w/ traffic)
- easy access to my building. come off main road, turn on road to complex and youre looking @ my building
- meijer (grocery store, clothing, electronics, etc etc...anything id need) is about a mile away, maybe less

lucky for me i have a washer/dryer already so i dont have to worry about that...ill also have furniture (not bad at all, used by my family for the past 9 years....only 2 years which we actually sat in it...old living room furniture) once the house sells... i have pots/pans i can take, dishes, maybe a kitchen table, all my bedroom furniture, my 27" tv, computer

i think im going to have to pick up a 2nd job 1-2 nights a week to make sure im not always pressed for money. as things stand, i make about 1240/mo after taxes, 575/rent, say 75/electric, 235/car, 140/insurance 50/cell phone comes to 1075...thats before gas for car, cable/internet (gotta have that), food (lunch at work), groceries, cat food/litter, etc...i may be able to get my job back at the pizza place 1-2 nights a week which would be 400-800$/mo extra which would help

itll be nice to finally get out on my own, and 2.5 weeks before my 21st birthday is perfect timing

sweet! congratulations on getting out and into your own place!

575 is great for an apartment that size. We have the same size place for 875 a month (Canadian, but still with the Canadian dollar at 90 US cents, we're pretty close).

I drool over that rent payment. I'm in so cal and I pay $850 for a bedroom in someone's house. A nice house though, but still $850 just for a room.

Do you plan on getting a roommate?
That's a good deal on the rent.
I have 2 roommates and my half or the rent is 540 itself.......congrats

ive been looking for a roommate...thing is a) i dont really feel comfortable/ok with living with someone i dont know too well (like less than a couple years) but on the same token, most of my best friends that ive known for years are out already and in places. i know a guy here at work ive known thru another friend (actually they're brothers) for about a year or so, and he's looking for a place til about the end of the year...this works out great caus my bro is plannin on splitting a place w/ me when he gets out of his lease in november...im just waiting to hear back from this guy to see if he's wanting to move in

if he does, it will help me out A LOT so i wont have to get a 2nd job and be exhausted all the time. i was doing 40 hours where im at now and 2-3 nights/week delivering pizza and it was just killing me...id work 8-5 here, then go deliver from 6-12:30, go home and do it again. finally i got sick of it, realized i didnt need the extra money at that time and stopped the pizza place. lucky me im in good w/ the manager and she said whenever i want to come back i can...im just hoping now that theres some spots available

yeah...bring an air mattress or something soft to lay on...i know ill have plenty of floor space, but i dont think im going to have an extra bed.

it wont be a tent though, and its only about an an hour - hour 15 min away from the meet

I remember the days of renting (like 11 months ago)... we had a 2br, 1ba for $500 a month. Man was I putting a ton of cash into savings each month... then we bought a house, and now that huge surplus of income is consumed by household necessities/mortgage/yadayadayada. If I were you, I would definately try to find a roommate. It's no fun living paycheck to paycheck with nothing left over. Cutting the rent/utilities in half would be a big help. It's also been my expereince that adding a second person doesn't make all the utilities double (you're going to heat the place regardless of how many live there), only a slight change to electric, and water does jump a little bit.

yeah...im not worried about utilities going up, and since the only utility is electric, thats going to save a lot of $ in itself.

i dont want to be living there on my own, but if i have to ill have to make it work.

i was hoping to get a 1 bedroom but she said she didnt know when one would even be available, so i had to go w/ a 2 bedroom

I'm proud for ya, Good luck with it, Once I get on my feet, if ya still need a roommate, I'd definatly do it. But I got to take care of myself first, these last few month have seriously sucked and I would never put anyone other than my family in that position lol... I'll be back in no time though. We'll see how it goes, good luck with the guy from work. Or your brother.

Ive been trying to move out for a while, i just wasnt too serious about it before, and i dumped too much money into my car. once i get serious about something i can go thru with it. i managed to save up some money to pay 1st month (100$) and the next, and maybe the one after...gotta see what my bills do this month. my plan was to save up enough for 4-5 months and only pay utilities, but i couldnt get that much together

party....maybe the weekend of HITH. that sat night/sun morn is my 21 birthday so its a possibility...the other is evan is going to a bar. all night :)
