Im going for a fairly sleeper look so no body kits....but what do you guys think would look good for the outside but not tip anyone off....currently all i have is the clear side markers....and i was thinking of having shark racing do my tail lights but afraid that is too flashy...definitely doing rims ... and refuse to do mirror covers and the lil window covers....thnx for ur input to whoever replies....o ya im also getting the optional hyundai lip spoiler for the trunk...debating on ordering that soon.

yeah, dont get big wheels. if youre looking to keep it quick, big wheels will kill that. you can find slick 15" wheels that no one will suspect anything.
the thing you have to remember is no one is going to think of your elantra as a 'non sleeper' or 'fast car' no matter what you do. you can kit it up and its not going to look fast. 95% of the FAST cars out here (FAST dsm's, FAST hondas, etc...im talking 12 sec cars or quicker) have no body kit, no wing, etc. all it tells me if someone has that done is they dont know what theyre doing and their car isnt fast.
you can drop your car, put wheels on it, put an exhaust, etc, and STILL not get noticed. trust me. ive got my car lowered 2", 15" wheels (which i will have new ones friday, still 15" but black 6 spoke) clear sidemarkers, tail light covers, short antenna, big brake kit w/ red rotors, and still no one messes w/ me because they automatically think my car is slow. when i smash them is when it gets interesting

are you going to boost? to me, a sleeper car is one that looks stock but is stupid fast. so pretty much unless you're putting down the power theres nothing to "sleep."

yeah...boost is whats its all about!!! even the stage 0 kit from alpine will do nicely throw on a smic and your good to go! ask toymachine about his or Kewlkat...they both like the power and are pretty much stock...kewlkat has some rims and stuff but nothing drastic.

i caught a light w/ this integra the other night...exhaust, dropped, low key wheels (black 15-16" 5 spoke). was sitting at the light, figured id give him the hit to see what was up, he took the hit, i started to get on it by the time he hit the end of 1st then i heard this LOUD *** BOV go off, high pitched, and he went thru 2nd and 3rd...just grabbed the road w/ the sticky *** tires. i didnt even try after i heard the BOV but he proceeded to hit his flashers like i had actually tried to race him the whole time (while i was doing the 45mph speed limit)

do they make something to keep the blow off valve quiet? cause that is a dead giveaway
for the outside, i would suggest you leave the emblems stock, leave the grill, and trim pieces stock, unless you have chrome to match a chrome trunk garnish to... no stickers, no decals, no exterior lighting...
you can get the HID kits for it... that would be a nice upgrade that wouldn't giveaway the sleeper aspect!
evan938

im not looking for a 300whp hyundai
with the roots style s/c (ie alpine), its pretty hard to intercool it. you could use a methanol injection kit but that is a good chunk of change. im sure i could get a 8-10psi pulley from alpine which would put me around 200hp.
yes, ford DID hit only mid 170s but remember, he did not have the unichip hooked up and had nothing to control timing. even then, he was roasting his tires. people dont understand that 180hp in a 2900lb car is a fast car. people see all these DSMs and boosted hondas hitting 300, 400, 500whp and get the idea that thats what it takes to be fast...well, yes, but 180hp in our cars will make for a quick XD

think of it this way, a 1972 civic can handle about 200 to the crank with stock motor (just random guesstimation) that is a fast car, for something tiny. hell, the 1972 prolly didnt even break 100hp to the wheels when they made it, thats why the speedo of a lot of cars only reached 85mph

ya well thnx for sticking to topic....not... but ya im doing the korean emblems just to keep people guessing...who arent in the know....and for the look....and name...for those who do know... but i want to keep the car n/a and hit the 200 mark roughly cause i have an auto...which is even more sleeper....poor 6 cylinder hondas dont stand a chance in the short runs.... but ya.... i like the cars and they are quick not fast....the have a lot of low end ...at least mine but i only have a sri right now...and will be doing all the n/a bolt ons minus the intake manifold just to see where that puts me then go from there....and if my numbers arent above 150 ish to the wheels then im just going to use the alpine s/c with no intercooler cause its just stupid on a roots s/c... but ya rims i am debating and if i do either 16 or 17's in silver....to match my car and stay unnoticed...cause quite frankly nobody knows about hyundai's and its great when you smoke the fools who dog on the cars....used to love smoking the honda guys in my lil hatchback accent.
evan938
05-11-2006, 08:14 AM
its going to cost you so much money to hit 200whp n/a on an auto its not funny...from the start you have a disadvantage over the 5speeds on this. most people w/ autos have dyno'd about 108-110whp stock. im confident in saying that it is impossible to hit 200whp n/a. i could be wrong, but if i am, its going to take probably 10-15k just to get close (and by close im talking 170whp)
only1db
05-11-2006, 09:31 AM
silver...did you just put that an intercooler on a roots blower is stupid??? um....any kind of intercooler for any kind of forced induction is ALWAYS a good idea! can you do it on an i4...well you can just not ours....look at alpines SC for the v6 tib...some guys are making crazy power with it....if i had a tib that would be the way i would go....
evan938
05-11-2006, 09:37 AM
its not that its 'stupid' but rather not very feasable. with a turbo, it compresses air, sends it thru a series of pipes and back to the IM. its not hard to replace some of those pipes w/ an intercooler.
with a roots type blower, it replaces the intake manifold. where do you put an intercooler? you can add something like alcohol injection to do the same thing as an intercooler, but IIRC, theyre like 1000$ and it needs to be filled every so often, and again, IIRC, alcohol isnt cheap

ya exactly what evan said....but evan the thing is for some reason...the 5 soeed elantras so fra havent been able to beat me its been pretty even....keep in mind they were stock and i have intake ....but really the car as an auto still pulls... i understand in higher hp applications its better to have a 5 speed....but with a reliable 200 whp...wether it be s/c or not i would still be more than happy with the car. and i will get near the 200 mark before im done cause i believe the tranny cant hold more than that stock correct?...but either way im not looking to go ALL out just a car that is faster than now but not something to keep up with turbo audi's or anything....i dont need it...plus i have 4 tickets in 1 and a half years and dont need all that power behind my foot anyways....o ya and does anyone else have the GOLD emblem cause i put it on my xcar but not sure if im liking it too much...its way bigger than all the other emblems....and i am not sure on the placement of my CVVT emblem i might get a new one and put it on the bottom of my trunk cause i have it on the top right now.
evan938
05-11-2006, 02:44 PM
first off, im glad you think that, but your auto elantra even with a cai is not going to beat a stock 5 speed. the auto guys have been running 17.2s or so. the 5 speeds will run a 16.6 or so stock. so you were either racing someone who wasnt racing or the person had no clue how to drive.
come out to HITH and ill run you in my car.
now youre talking about s/c your car...but before n/a...which is it? youre probably still going to have some extra goodies to hit 200whp with the s/c. if you have 4 tickets, maybe f/i shouldnt be on your list. and good luck passing emissions/inspection with it on. AFAIK, alpines stuff isnt CARB certified. i could be wrong but im pretty sure
CTele02
05-11-2006, 02:50 PM
I talked to rickna at the newtib carmeet and his supercharger on his v6 is CARB approved... (i know its different from the betaII s/c but still shows that Alpine systems can be CARB approved eventually)

Man I have a stock 5 speed and blow civics, cobalts, focus, and my friends auto elantra away. That guy for sure does not know how to drive if you beat him in an auto.
evan938
05-11-2006, 02:58 PM
ok. i wasnt sure if it was or not. remember, only like 3 people have the s/c so it may not have enough demand yet to get CARB certified
SilverElantra
05-11-2006, 04:05 PM
i blow civic away...havent raced a cobalt yet...but focus is nothing really.... they hold till the end then i pull...but that was stock... raced my buddies stock camry v6 and beat him on the freeway...by a long shot...pulled on him hella bad and he was going and we just tuned the car and fixed all the problems with it so ya...there was very little wrong with it at the time.
evan938
05-11-2006, 04:15 PM
dude...i dont mean to sound like a dick at all, but elantras arent fast cars...not even mine (and ESPECIALLY a stock auto), and im sure im running a good 2 seconds faster in the 1/4 than you. im going to call b/s on your races. yes civic and integras are little econoboxes, but ive seen a guy pick up 22whp from adding an exhaust to his intake/header set up. not 22whp from I/H/E, 22whp from the exhaust. the cars respond VERY well to mods and its not hard to get those things to hit 14s n/a. not hard at all. ive gotten my fair share of *** whoopins from civics that look stock with an exhaust.
are you sure these people were actually racing? with the slow acceleration of the auto XD, they were probably accelerating normally and your car floored just happened to be a tad faster than them. :)
My auto is pretty quick to, but my friend in her 5-speed xd was able to nearly pull on me and my friend in his 5-speed golf was matched with me almost with me a little ahead, but I have a CAI and muffler. So its ganna take a couple mods before you can do pretty good agasint most stuff.
Oh, and posts about street racing isnt allowed here, but hey, we're both allowed one slip up, haha.

Is there a difference from a 30-40 mph roll, auto vs manual (same car)?
evan938
05-11-2006, 05:07 PM
well seeing how the end of 1st gear is 35mph and thats when most would shift into 2nd, the revs are up in the 3-4k range...right around 3000 is when my car starts to pull the hardest. my bro had an 01 xd he just totalled a couple weeks ago and the times i drove it, i could not even imagine that it was the same car w/ just a different tranny. it was so incredibly slow i was amazed. it had 0 pull to it at any RPM in any gear at any speed.

The B&G springs have issues with the rears in the elantra.. They "clank".. I wouldent go with them if I was you.. I had them in my 01 GLS and I couldent stand them, there is a way to make the problem go away though. You need to put hose on the 2 top coils and that will stop the clanking.

heh, well the way it sounds, I wouldn’t do anything until you get your engine mods (what ever those may be) done. Maybe some better tires or something. You said you want a sleeper, so pretty much I'd go with staying stock. You said you wanted something like 200hp right? Somebody else said that that going to be pretty hard (read: not cheap) for a N/A car on a budget. I'd have to agree.
I guess my list (which looks lame) would go something like this:
1) as many drive train mods as possible
2,3,4) upgrade brakes [gt/sonata upgrade might be enough?],wheels and tires [15's or 16's max], suspension.
That’s it. You may have noticed I grouped steps 2,3, 4. I only did that because I feel those are all one “component” per say that should be done at the same time. I suppose you could divide it up. If that’s the case I don’t think any one takes precedence over another.
I guess my point is no appearance mods should be done…pretty much ever really. Like not even grills or something. Dump all that money into the drive train. AFTER that’s done, work on the brakes/wheels/tires/suspension. No lights. No wings, no stickers, no ICE, no nothing basically. Heck not even tint unless you live in a hot area.
BUT it is your car. So IMO if you want to keep the sleeper look, keep the car stock. I really don’t see the point of changing anything on the outside until you REALLY change what’s under the hood. And if you do decide to make exterior changes just please keep in mind that they are just that, changes in appearance. They aren’t go-fast parts.
