Sweet! Can give a quick rundown of the steps involved. I noticed there was a wire already there so I am assumming that's the wire for the antenna. Is that wire for the signal from the headunit to the antenna? Do you have to run a separate wire for power?

DIY please! :D

the wires were there constant 12v power, ground, and power antenna signal wire.I had no wires to run, everything was there.and works with stock headunit.I have a panasonic CQ-DFX701U in now, It has a wire for power antenna and remote for amp. I bought A plug to adapt to stock wireharness did not have to cut any wires in dash.

Where did you buy the antenna and what is the model? It sounds almost too easy and too good to be true to put one in. If so, I am getting one.

I got it from advanced auto. it was $45-$50 they only have 1 kind. the wires are there, you use the OEM seal from your original antenna, the mounting bracket I bent a 90 in it and used the 10mm bolt from bumper cover to secure it. there is a plug in the hatch next to the antenna, I used a volt meter to find wich 1 is power, ground, and the middle wire sends the signal to antenna to go up.(power when radio is on,antenna goes down when CD is playing).

I have the power antenna wires in my dash, but they are nowhere to be found in the trunk....

little help?

Webtech has the scematic for the Hatchback, but nothing for the GLS... the wire can't just go nowhere though...

Nice job! I'd always thought about this when I noticed the power antenna wire in the amp plug under the side panel in the trunk.

Are you in a 4 door kylemorg, or a 5 door?

This is great swifty. You are the man.

I've been wanting a powered antenna too, but haven't gotten around to it. Thanks for being the first (that I'm aware of). You've done me and this site a great service.

Now, I've got another mod to add to my long list. I think this one will move to the top though.

Wade004 - mine's a 5 door like swifty's. On the hatch, if I remember correctly the plug was either tucked into the side trim, or it was under the plastic cup behind the passenger side rear wheel well under the floor carpeting.

I don't know where it is on the sedan -- but it has to be somewhere on the passenger's side of the trunk. Start popping off trim pieces and look for a small white plastic connector with (three or four?) wires going into it that's not plugged into anything.

It has worked fine for over a year now. Good luck finding the correct wires
+1 popping tirm pieces

I've been searching through the trunk, as well as the wires run along both sides under the door, and I can't seem to find a wire that isn't in use. I pulled out all the lining of the trunk and nothing as well. I took apart the fuse box and didn't really see anything promising there either

All the research I've done on the issue seems to say that the 5 door already has the wires run, but no mention of anything for the 4 doors. I'm going to go buy some extra wires, do one last check under the dash facia, pull the stereo and maybe pull on that wire and see if anything wiggles... but beyond that I'm ready to start fishing and just run my own wires...

Pics to come

ONE LAST QUESTION... If I'm going to steal constant power from something, what is my best bet? Trunk light? is that enough juice? should I run some constant from the front? does this need to have a fuse (or go through the fuse box, since there is a designated fuse for antpower and ampswitch), in your opinions?

and I guess if it needs a fuse, would that be on the switch wire or the constant power wire?

any power for anything should have a fuse imo.. for that kind of draw you could get away with mightly small wire and still be ok.

i duno that i would feel safe stealing power though, id prolly just run it, but thats just me and just cause i love my elantra.. i had a few old cars i didnt care about and i stole power from all kinda places hehe, i never had any probs either.
if you are going to steal power, which i recommend you just run a new one, ive taken it from the trunk power before, also from the cigi lighter, also from factory amps and such, but the elantras dont have those

Ok, so there are no wires for power antenna preinstalled in the 4 doors. That being said, running wires inside wasn't as hard as I thought it would be, just pop off some panels and do a little fishing. It took me awhile, but now I'll be ready when I run wires for Bass. which I already have a fever for (I got a fever, and the only prescription for it is more cowbell).

anyways, pretty cheap mod, only drawback i have is that I need to find a constant, may come off the HU constant, because I wired into the cig lighter and the Aux cig lighter, and both are switched, so for now I have to turn the HU to cd or pop the face before I get out to make the Ant go back down...

look good. How did you secure the power antenna to the trunk?

wade0004

the OEM antenna was bolted to a frame wall, just used the same hole and a little elbow grease. The antenna came with all sorts of different external adaptors, but I ended up just using the Manufacturer rubber seal.

i used manufacturer rubber seal also. Now you need some Dynamat for your trunk. http://www.elantraxd.com/photopost/showphoto.php?photo=337&cat=500&ppuser=737

Nice job too, Wade. Sorry for the false lead on the power wires. I just assumed they'd put them in both the HB and the sedan.

So did I... I'm not really sure why they don't, seems kind of silly. oh well. Hope you all had a good weekend.
