You need to take the dash face plate off, then take out some screws to get the OEM radio out, get the harness for the elantra then put then new headunit in.. Also a installation kit so the radio sits well would help.

i dont know how close the 00 dash is to the 01-06, but here is a link to removing the dash and locations of the screws: http://www.elantraxd.com/DIY/dashremoval.php

once removed however, you will easily see how to take the radio out

great suggestions, guys.

also,
the best $15 you can spend is on a factory wiring harness adaptor. this allows you to plug into the factory radio wiring harness and splice the other end of the adaptor directly to your aftermarket radio's harness. every wire is labeled plain as day.

take your time, read the INSTRUCTIONS, and you will be proud of your work when you are done and rockin'!

P.S. Keep that "18 dollar fat wire"....
wire is wire and it's always usefull. I have a goodie box in the basement that is overflowing with extra wire, adaptors, etc. I am always robbing parts from that box.

be careful though if you advance past a head unit.......

I recently spent $200...
:abovelol:
on a Rockford Fosgate 2 amplifier install kit and an extra set of RF RCA's. HA! dude, I could have bought comparable quality "no name" wire for half that or less!

remember what I said, wire is wire
