Silverstar 1157 bulbs illegal...HA!!!

Ok so the other day im pulling out of a target and before i can do so i have to wait at a light...and somehow a cop in one of those suvs is behind me. Anyway while im waiting at the light there is a guy on a bike sitting at the corner of the intersection. Light turns green and i go but before i do i make sure the guy on the bike isnt going or if he is ill yeild to him as the sign at one end of the intersection says to do so. Anyway he doesnt move so im like f*ck it im going; Next thing i know the guy is in the middle of the intersection waiting for me to go so he can continue to go across. So im looking in my rear view mirror and i saw the guy waving on the cop but the cop yeilds and lets him go. By this time im hald way down the street changing lanes and he catchs up and changes lanes. After going through the light he turns on his lights and pulls me over; takes forever to get out of his suv and then comes up and askes me "do you know why i pulled you over. Of course im in la la land so im like "umm no what i do ?" His like you didnt yeild to that guy on the bike so im like "i check and he wasnt going anywhere" . Then he askes me for my liecence and insurance and i give him that ; He comes back and says his going to let me off with a warning or some crap . Then out of the blue his like " however i can not let you off with a warning for your turning signal bulbs" ;Those are not legal... you can only have amber or red in the state of illinois. At this point im like what the hell is this guy talking about i have amber (orange turn signals) so i turn on my hazards and im like " uhh i do have amber turning signls look. He looks and his like "my mistake"....

Gotta love those silverstar 1157 bulbs!!! :D

he was probably pissed because he had to wait for someone to move and then took it out on you. Displaced anger is a real problem with cops these days. What is the real advantage of having silverstar bulbs for turn signals? Are they a lot brighter or is it just the blue bulb that people like?

well in my old car I had a set in my turning signals in the front and back and they seem to last a very long time. The other plus to having them is they arent the traditional amber color when unlit...and they are street legal :D they give a very clean look .

yeah, they are pretty much a clear version of the chrome turn signals... they add a sportier look while still having the legal amber color to them

well put.... plus i upgrade my 02'' tail lights to the 04-06 style and i didnt want the amber look anymore since i had no options with the 02' tail lights with the built in amber grrr :mad:

I have a pair of those sitting in my room, they look great when they arent on but IMO there to orange.. I like my yellow bulbs better.

i kinda want the 04-06 tails... but i want to try red vinyl on my 02 tails and see how that would look with the amber still on there and red vinyl over that.

they are starting to grow on me, that i will admit... at first, i liked the "being different by staying stock" look of it... but the more i look at the XD2 tails, the more possibilities i see with it.

With all the moron ricers around with white turn signal bulbs, it was probably a safe-guess that your bulbs were illegal, however - that guess didn't work out too well for him now did it, lol. Did you have a signal on when you were waiting for the light to turn (or were you going straight) - if you did, that makes the story even better.

yea it was on i guess he wasnt paying much attention or doing something "important".... I talked to a local cop in my town and he said that if your turning signals are white or amber ... not that white-blushish color.. then you could by law have pure white turning signals.... :cool:

^^^ your lucky 'cause here all lights have color : front lights - white, tails lights - red, and turn lights - amber ... anything else is illegal

some even have problems with the brighter front light bulbs as they appear more blue...

silverstar is sylvania, everything sylvania makes is legal. you can't blame him for doing his job (about the lights); reason for pulling you over was just a fake excuss. however, he should ask you to turn on your turn signals before he starts trying to hit you with a charge.

jalmir, his lights are amber, so its legal in 50 states (even where you are), if any cop anywhere in usa gives him a hard time, and he takes it to court it will be dropped.

paint will flake off, and not allow light to show through, it will like not even having a light at all.

don't paint your bulbs, it will make them die faster (higher temp) and melt the paint off anyway

just get some red bulbs or red LED kits

No, an idiot would have written the ticket anyway. At least he backed off. And when I put Silverstars in for my rear turn signals I decided to keep the original ambers in the trunk... just in case I get challenged, I can get back into compliance.

Yeah they should fit fine. But you can't see them on a 2003 because of the amber in the tail light.

but keep in mind, the 2004-2006 XD2 hatch silver striped tail lights fit perfectly in the 2001-2003 XD1 hatch, and will show the bulbs.

my tails dont have any amber in them... theyre clear/silver... they just reflect the amber when the signals r on. same goes for the front,
