not sure if this should be in "appearance" section but...
I just realized that earlier XDs (01~03) models seem to have smaller engine cover...?
is this true? or ppl who seem to have smaller engine cover had to buy those separately?
all newer XDS (04+) seem to have huge engine cover.... its just a huge box on top of the entire engie....
but I see some earlier XD owners with engine covers that are smaller and only covers the spark plugs... is there a way to DIY this or something?

there are two seperate parts... the silver piece that covers the plugs and then the huge black plastic around that... ive removed both, and i think for the XD and XD2 are different bolt patterns, not only size.

The engine cover on the XD1 is two pieces, the black outer piece and the silver inner piece. On the XD2, both the black and the silver parts are incorporated into a one-piece cover. Which is a pity because I would like to use just the inner cover over the spark plugs and wires.

I looked into getting an XD1 inner cover but the valve covers are different and there are no provisions to attach an XD1 inner cover on an XD2 valve cover.

it is possible to remove the 1 piece and cut the silver cover off. can't be too hard with even a pocket knife... but of course a dremel would be best

i think mine on my xd is a one piece... i don't see how it would stay in place if it was seperated and i only had the silver piece there.....

its two... if you remove the black piece, you will see the silver stays put

nope when i undo the 4 bolts it all comes off at once in one piece....

it might be just 2003s.... not 2002s or 2001.... i know my 2001 is 2 piece

my 06 seems to be two piece.... but they seem to be glued or melted to be attached
I was thinking about seperating those pieces and put the small piece on the engine but there's no bolts or nothing to hold it on top of the engine...
I'm searching for DIY on this
