Anyone here in Colorado or Hawaii? I'm from Hawaii and have been living in Colorado for about 8 months now for school. If any of you are from Hawaii? Do you have any trouble with your cars and the weather there?

I have lived in Hawaii. Didn't care for it too much. I bought my Elantra there and got taken to the cleaners with their "import" tax. It was expensive, and got very small, very quickly.
I now live in Colorado. In the Springs. There are a couple members here who also live in Colorado. Most notably Mahonroy, who has a turboed XD. There is a website I been told about for your area called highaltitude imports. They meet at a Sonics in your area on fridays. All kinds of cars there too. Welcome to the site.

Yea, I didn't like hawaii much, and the weather there is terrible on your car. Water marks from all the acid rain, and even the vog sucks. My headlights are all fogged up. But yea, I wonder if that sonics you're talking about is down near where my roommate works. I don't know if you know of the place, its called 5280 Autosports now. They used to be Sunfree Autosports.

You from Hawaii and don't like it now that you're away?...I think the mountain air is too much for you.
As long as you keep your car clean and garaged, there is no problem. Acid rain only exists on the Big Island; the salt air will get you, but that's the reason for keeping it as clean as possible so the dirt/water/salt won't corrode anything.
Responding to "TNT"....you pay for living here, so you should know the deal if you were here....not too sure what you're talking about, though; paid just over $15k for my 2006 GLS sedan and that's dirt cheap for any car in the Elantra's range. I priced a comparable 2006 Honda Civic and came up with $21k and less warranty.
I'm under the assumption that both of you weren't born and raised in Hawaii, because if you were....things you both are saying would be very different.
Alohaz!!

I did live on the big island, and no, I wasn't born there, but I lived there for 9 years. For me, a skater, there realy isn't much to do there. It's a great place to visit, but once you've seen every tourist attraction several times, it gets kinda old. You live in Honolulu, a lot more to do there than the cracked out town of Pahoa.

Yep, you pay a lot to live there my friend. And that was not for me. To each their own. Look at your invoice and you will see the import/ shipping tax I was speaking of. Others can chime in, but you paid way more than you woulda here...

Yea, you do have to pay a shipping tax that's pretty hefty. And actually, living on the Big Island, cars are more expensive other than just that tax, and a lot of people end up flying over to Oahu, buying a car there, shipping it to the Big Island, and flying back, and it still comes out cheaper than just buying it on the Big Island. It's ridiculous.

I don't know what kind of prices you get in Colorado, but dealer price was comparable to all the prices on the auto web research sites I checked. Don't know how it can be that much less if the sale price is the same on all of the sites (between $13k and $15k for the 2006 GLS).

Yeah, that is true and I know first hand being born and raised on Kauai. But hey, at least living here in paradise means no freezing cold in the winter, no changing of tires or adding chains and 75-85 (avg) degree weather year round. Wouldn't trade it at all....only downside is never being able to attend any outings like the HITH....
Aloha, Carl! :D

Haha, yea, some people like the consistant warm temperatures, but I like the cold too. However, I do rep hawaii over here, still got my hawaii plates and liscence, and when I went back to hawaii for spring break, I got one of those hawaiian islands stickers and put it on my back window. I was thinking about going to that HITH, but my girlfriend is coming to visit from hawaii during that time, and I haven't really done much to my car yet anyway.

Carl....when you're done with school and you get back, you gotta get to Oahu; cars don't rust or get as damaged by the climate as on the neighbor islands....plus you and your lady have the shopping thing and clubbin'...the only downside is the outdoors stuff suffer....fishing/diving....golf for cheap....drinking on the beach :D
Aloha, dude!

Well, I don't think I'm ever gonna be moving back. Pretty much just visiting occasionally as long as my girlfriend is still there. And whenever I'm visiting, I have to drive a POS '96 Chevy Lumina that my mom bought for me to use when I'm there. Well, that or maybe the 97 Nissan Sentra that my girlfriend just got. But I'm liking Colorado so far. Like the weather, and I like being able to road trip. When my girlfriend comes for summer, we're going to visit her sister in Oklahoma and go camping at Yellowstone, and who knows what else.
