if i had the money i could probably do 65k for one, but only if its as bad *** as the 67 GT500s. its a supply and demand market

i will say though, the thought of 8,000 per year is not very appealing for the top of the line car. if its going to be selling for 40k (probably more w/ dealer markup) i would hope there would be maybe 1000, maybe 2000 tops. that would average out (i know, wierd way to see it) to about 20-40 per state. then it would be a rarety (sp?) to see.

didnt they make less mach 1's and cobras than that as well? and i believe that with the machs and cobras up until recently (unless they still are doing it, i havent checked lately) they were only produced every other year

if they had stuck w/ the last body style for this year, i would be all over a mach1 if they made em. my uncle had an 03 mach1, slick car (about the only domestic i would consider)...it was around 320hp stock, he was running 12.7's with a k/n air filter (not even an intake system, just stock style replacement) and nitto 555 DRs. added some UDP's and boosted it up somewhere around 30-35hp.

too bad he put it thru the woods dickin around on a country road. the car was awesome

you use "only 500hp" too loosely...as a matter of fact, i do believe you would piss yourself if you were to get behind anything with more HP than your hyundai. also you have to remember the mustang is an american icon...there will always be people that want the newest one or, some middle-aged man going through his teenage years again they are nice cars and with a name like mustang ford can pretty much charge what they want for them, just like chevy with the vette and dodge with their vipers, and chargers...american muscle is coming back...get used to it. if you dont like it, dont buy one, hell dont even look at them. i am sorry but i am a hot rod guy to the core, and my passion for muscle is unmatched...so when some one says something careless like "only 500hp" it kinda gets me going face it although gas is high and aerodynamics and speed may prove to be "hot" right now...you will always have the guy that just wants to burn the rubber off his rims.

German Engineering is HYPE squared. My wife had a 2001 Jetta that was no better than my Hyundai..Its almost as redundant as people stating that thier Honda's will outlast everything on the road. You know what, maybe a 1983 corolla was far superior in longevity over a 1983 Citation but thats not the truth in todays car markets. Most car manufacturers produce vehicles that are comparable in all classes- price, comfort, reliability etc etc.. You as a Hyundai Owner should be the first to have an open mind to this and not buy into all this "german engineering" crap. People still looked at me funny when i said that i had a Hyundai- Then i told them i had 100K+ miles and no real problems whatso-ever. It made beleivers out of many, especially my Family who now own 7 Hyundais.

My point is, Of the 3 cars i listed, I would take the gt500. There aint no M3 with 500hp, and the z06 has 505hp. The Gt500 wont be the dime a dozen that Vettes are. Im not saying the z06 is a Dime a Dozen but i think the Gt500 would be a bit more exclusive and not to mention, the sticker on the GT500 is 40k Not 68k as the Z06 is.

No problem. Nope...not a ricer AT ALL! My viper is probably pushing about 420-425 to the wheels so once winter is over and I drive it for the first time compared to the El or the Yota....it is kind of a piss yourself feeling. I respect the machine.

I'm a muscle car head too, but I just hate that the 'big 3' are finding the need to revamp the true icons- Hemi, Charger, GT500...etc. How many years until Dodge gives us a new Cuda??

As for Mustangs, I do like them and I appreciate the power versus price ratio. I'm just at a point where I want something rare and not every variation looks the same: V6, GT, Mach1, Cobra, GT500....etc. On my wish list is a 93 Fox Cobra that has been unmolested.

What sux is American muscle is coming back, and just like the 70's, the gas prices will soon kill it. Enjoy it while it lasts. I'm already on the waiting list for the 2009 K-Car. :eek:

If you have 70k to dump then save another 10 to 20k and get a car that will only have 1000 to 1200 produced per year. Hell, let someone else pay the luxury tax, gas guzzler tax, and take the 20% hit for driving it off the lot and buy one used. For the same 70k you have a car that you may see someone else driving 15 times a year. I'll pass some variant of a Mustang I will see at LEAST 50 times driving home tonight.

I basically responding to the article that no it is not worth it for the reasons mentioned. And if people do their home work, those that will pay the "hype money", they can get something it an entirely different class of car....or just wait a few years until for floods the market.

and the m3 has long been standing as the best handling car for under 50k...until the lotus elise...but thats just a track beater...nothing to drive everyday...

I don't know what NT.com is and really don't care. I joined here because it is an Elantra forum and that is one of the cars I have...the car that I drive the most. If you forgot, you started this thread and asked for opinions. I gave one and you responded back "Viper suck...". My respones to you have not been rude or knee jerk in any way like yours. I've only called you out on the mis-information you've supplied. Shall I give you examples again? Or when you say "they act like you" at the other site, are you saying they call out people who talk but never really say anything?

Personally, I still like the vette better than the viper, even if it is slower.

Edit: personally, if I owned a 450hp car, I'd want something like an Elantra to drive around too. You can't make your daily run to the grocery store in a Viper, and why spend more than you need to fon an Elantra for a daily driver, if you've got a Viper in the garage?

That is exactly right. As the motortrend (I think that was the mag linked to above) article said, the Viper is not a daily driver for the exact same reasons they stated. Mine may be a few years old, but it still has the same comfort and heating issues....and at best on the highway it is getting 17mpg. In traffic or beating it you are now in very low double digit numbers. Not good considering premium gas prices.

Right now my wife and I live about 45 miles from downtown Pittsburgh where I work. That's almost a 100 per day and that can't be done in a Viper. And I'm the type of person who can see paying 30k+ for a BMW or Lexus as a work car. It takes too much of a beating here in the semi-northeast area. I paid 7800 for my Elantra in 04 with only 17k on it. I don't mind running 7800 into the ground, but not a 30K+ car...or a 15k chevy that is going to break down all the time or need parts every three months.

I prefer to send a small amount of money on a very reliable car that gets great gas milage and has a great warranty and then buy a toy with my other cash.

That's okay. It's easy to understand. ArunSenior04 posted the link to my intro post where someone else asked for a couple. But really, I could have grabbed those pics from anywhere and posted them.
